I don't know where you are located but I guess you have also heard of Lek and her Elephant Nature Park north of Chiang Mai? She started her sanctuary in 1998, since then she has opened several others in Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, each time involving the local population that would otherwise lose their income through the loss of their elephant. Wishing you well on your important journey for the benefit and well-being of the gentle and oh so courageous giants.

Katherine Connor is smart to help this. I would if I was older. Too many people are unaware of local elephant riding businesses in Thailand no matter what they say.

Looking forward to more places just like this for abused elephants although ultimately zero abuse in the first place, rather that all people in Thailand and globally treat not only all elephants but all animals with respect, dignity and care, starting with respect for oneself. The way we feel about ourselves is the way we treat others people and animals.

THIS is a beautiful place, full of compassion and love for elephants. This one and Elephant Nature Park are the ONLY 'sanctuaries' I would want to visit in Thailand. Most of the others are simply tourist traps making money off gullible humans, usually at the expense of the elephants.

500 are only wild and free ? And 2.50 0 in chains and abused, dying from their injuries and mental suffering ? There were 300.000 not long time ago. It’s urgent to bread the young and healthy ones. Many thanks Catherine for your courage and heart.

Considering Lek and Darrick have been running a elephant sanctuary for many years now so this would be another sanctuary. The good thing is that Lek has been teaching owners about how to care for their elephants and even to surrender them to ENP, they were the first sanctuary to have volunteer weeks with the tourists where they stay and care for them, they even get to pay for the privilege of working with these gentle beasts. So I don't know whether this lady has been in contact with Lek on how to care and run a sanctuary for elephants, it does not matter whether it is large or small it is a haven for these eles, well done and kudos to you Katherine.

ELEPHANT NATURE PARK has been around since 1996... FYI...Lek started doing this WAY before this woman did.

It is not correct that this is the first sanctuary in Thailand. So it is not a tourist attraction, but tourists can stay there. What does that mean?
