Steve saved the day for me! I needed a freeware vid editor to blur out some sensitive parts of a vid, and found OpenShot, then I needed the fast course on how to apply a blur, and Steve's demo admirably did the trick. Thanks Steve!

Super quick and useful tutorial!

One thing to note is that you must have openshot in "Advanced View". If you're on a mac, click "view" at the top bar of your desktop and change the view settings for openshot.

Hey if you click that magnet on the timeline tool bar it turns off the snapping feature and you can precisely move clips around without them snapping to a location when you get close to them. Also you can use Ctrl and the mouse wheell and Shift and the mouse wheel to move the frame around without having to click and drag the editing box. Thanks for the blur tutorial!!

thanks for this! One thing i didn't realize was that you need the blurred and cropped clip on a track ABOVE the main one. When i had it below (so in your example on track 3), the blur was not shown

Great video! The only issue that caught me off guard was there a different set of crop properties if you access from the video clip versus from the effects panel Once I figured that out, I was able to follow your video.

How to clear multiple crop entries between 2 points other than deleting the crop Effect and starting over. Also, just a thought, the 2 copies same track & adding blur etc. was more difficult & taxing on my PC than what I ended up doing. Also it didn't blur enough so you couldn't read/see it. So I got the crop numbers for the crop (as you did for the plate) but I took a snapshot of a blank black screen, saved it and put it in place of the copied track (stretched to match time) and just input the numbers from the crop. It totally blocked out the selected area and didn't tax my PC at all. Yayyy! :o)

Oh, I thought I was going to add a blue blob and move it around to stay with the region I want to blur. This is way too hard. I hope there's another way because my stuff isn't moving in a simple line like this

Also you need to tell folks when they copy the clip for the blur, the clip they're copying can't already have crop entries or the copy won't let you make the changes to isolate the blur area. THAT one had me pulling my hair out watching you do it, and it wouldn't do it for me.

Putting a comment in helps show your video to more people
