I have that same slab roller. I sent my husband to the pottery store for glazes and he came back with a slab roller. I love that man.

That’s such a nice compliment for Jon. Success is a numbers game in pottery. Just make more. Keep a photo diary so you can see yourself improve and also to remind you what worked.

I go to Good Will and look for plates to use as form. Lots of plastic plates or odd shape plates.

This is something that takes some practice. I let things firm up for three hours. Figure out what works in your space. Flip over so plates are on their rims as soon as possible. Then slightly indent the base(this is so the base will sit flat and not be high centered. Do this lightly by pressing down on the centre of the plate. I think that Jon doesn’t worry about a little bit of warping. These are casual plates. Also when rolling out your slab, roll over it several times to increase compression. Dry evenly, use a fan don’t let the rim dry first. Make quite a lot then you can see what you are doing wrong. Keep your design simple so you will mind loss less. So much in pottery is simple but takes time to learn. I have learned that the part of my studio where it is slightly damper is better for drying. This is a good project to learn about drying, to have it more instinctual. I find drying hard but keep persevering because if you’re like me I love making. Let us know how it goes.

I love the glaze you put in these. They're beautiful! Also, there's something that just rings so wholesome about these plates. They make me smile.

To display them for craft markets, put a sandwich on one, with potato chips on the side….and WHAM - they will fly out of your stall.

I would you to give a tutorial if possible on making a cup with no wheel and no kilm. Some of us don't have the space for a wheel or kilm, but love the process.

Different sizes. But guessing I would start with 10” and then if you made them six inches wide you’d be going with an ancient golden rule so that would look definitely look good to start with. Thickness of the clay is less than 1/2”. Try this and let us know how it goes.😊❤

Do you add a weight bag to keep them from warping and drying high in the center?

To glaze your slab wax the bottom. Dip into glaze over half way, then grasp plate by other end and dip again letting second color overlap with the first. Remove glaze from base and fire. Understand?
