Need to make a small modification to a 3D model to fit your specific application? Me too! I'll show you step-by-step how you can make simple changes to an existing .stl file using the free online CAD software, TinkerCAD.
For this example, we'll modify a FPV drone GoPro mount to fit the Source One 5" quadcopter frame.

Drop a workplane on your orange ovals, then hit 'D', the negative rectangle to cut off the letters will be perfectly aligned with the flat surface and will remove 100% of the letters instead of leaving a small amount behind.

I’ve got a drawer in my entertainment center for console controllers and it’s always cluttered. I want to make a set of stands that will hold the controllers… and the stand will also house a magnetic charging cable for each (or a few) of the controllers. So it will hopefully be easier for my kids to charge the controllers without breaking the charging ports. Each consoles controller is different so I’m using several stl files and I’ll hopefully be able to make it stream lined and simple. Cheers!

I have been using Tinker cad for about 4 months now, glad I came across your video. That ruler helps tremendously, struggled for ages on this ,as I own and fly quads , so I have similar problem lining holes. Wouldn't it be great if they had a free hand sketch tool and a rubber like in paint. Or do they? Thanks again

Glad it helped! They sort of do (i think it's called the "scribble" tool), but it doesn't work very well.

I don't know if you covered this and edited it out( you do have some quick cuts), but the model I've selected apparently is considered too large by tinkercad. How do you resolve that.

Question: If you want to significantly changing the size of a STL design found on Thingiverse, how do you preserve the size of things like hinges and latches? I found a Pelican case design on thingiverse that is huge (525mmx432mmx165mm) and my desired size size is 160mmx125mmx 45mm). If I drag the entire model to the smaller size, doesn't that collapse the hinges and latch connections also? What's the best way to achieve a working but smaller size case?
@NOSFYT
@NOSFYT Жыл бұрын
Probably a late response, but you can import stl models into sketchup, besides tinkercad, your only option is to modify the model. Sketchup is surprisingly easy to use.

Hi Adam just joined your channel and love it. Your a good teacher for the beginner 3D'er. I just got my first printer this month and already having a blast printing the stuff that we made together even though I don't have a gopro or a drone and any way ty. but now I'm having a problem with some of the stuff i made most of it is printing good (for example) a flat heart shape that is 2.25 mm thick but one side is lifting up during the printing process. i have the Creality Ender 3 pro I'm running the bed temp at 60 and just one side and bottom of the heart is lifting off the bed. Any Ideas on how I can fix this problem I'm all ears. thanks
@RCwithAdam1
@RCwithAdam1 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks, Jeff! If only one part of the print is lifting, it may be a bed level issue (that part of the bed is lower than the rest). Or it could just be an adhesion issue, in which case make sure the bed is very clean (if glass). Also try printing with a "brim" around the print (about 5 layers). Also check out this CHEP video about a cool cura plugin kzfaq.info/get/bejne/epplmKyZ1L23qZs.html . Or you could buy Magigoo adhesion compound (I think it works great!).

I use SainSmart brand. It's very flexible and strong when printed thin, but can be quite rigid if printed more densely. It does stretch, but not much (nothing like a rubber band). What kind of object do you want to print?

Good but too much talking/unsure changes. I'm looking for; importing a STL design, items within the STL design be changed, i.e. STL CNC-clamp needs to be lengthen, but inside the clamp the M6 mounting slot needs to also be elongate - how? There is no simple way of just altering the item dimensions of the STL design/elements. It looks like I'll need to create an all new slot hole and overlay it - how burdensome.
