My Website: chrisliepe.com
I get two questions about mixed voice all the time:
"What's an easy way to tell if I'm using mixed voice?" And...
"How can I make it sound better and more usable once I get there?"
In this video, I answer both of these questions in a direct way and give you practical things to practice so that you can actually use your mixed voice in real musical ways!
You must learn the 'sensation of mix' and then operate out of this sensation in order to use it regularly and musically. There are so many possibilities for your voice once you get over this hump of being able to hone in on the sensation. Let me help you!

Though I have a question to ask. It's been circling my mind and I want the answer (explanation) to hear or read from you. That if you're able to see this😅 What range or what place does Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine usually registers his voice in most of their songs? Like, you can hear him sing in head voice yet most of the time stays in between chest and head. Well, I guess I had the answer to myself upon writing this😆 But anyway, what can you say about it?

Sir, I'm almost 59, have been taking voice lessons for a few years off and on with different teachers every few months. It's been a little frustrating, as I have a low chest voice "break" note/area and can easily sing high soprano in head voice; it's a bummer when I want to sing almost any song, as I didn't really get instruction (other than "cry" and a bunch of voice exercises that I couldn't connect to singing) on how that could happen... I don't know why I didn't find you sooner, but I've been watching about 8 vids of yours since yesterday, and the way you teach "fits" with me, and I am excited to learn and do more. SO HAPPY to have found you. Funny too that you have an obvious style (which is not mine), but every teacher has something to give, I believe. Thank you, and hi from Canada!

Another idea for a video: could you make one about singing words in mixed voice/belting range? I have no problems reaching and holding a high and long "aaaaaah" or "ooooh" note in mix or belt, but when I have to sing some actual words it just sounds ridiculous 😂 It either sounds very thin and not so powerful as a simple "aaaaah" note or I start to squize.

Hey Chris! Big fan, been watching for nearly 2 years and absolutely love the content you put out! I'm wondering specifically if you could do a stem analysis or just an overall vocal style analysis from Andy Biersack from the Black Veil Brides? He's got a style of tonality and richness that I can't quite figure out. Could be production and layering of the vocals in some places but I'm pretty sure there's some technique to it as well. If this isn't something you'd do in a video, I'd consider booking some time with you to help me emulate that style. I hope you see this comment and let me know :)
@chrisliepe
@chrisliepe 2 жыл бұрын
Ya, Andy would prolly be a better one to do in the context of a lesson... I have to be careful to put content out that is highly searchable to keep momentum going on the channel. Tags and searchable names are a big way to keep that going. There is probably an audience for him, but I'll have to do some more digging to see if it would be a good fit for a video!

I thought I finally felt mixed voice a few days ago but I wasn't sure (didnt feel like a belt nor pure falsetto, felt like its own register tbh). Then you uploaded this video and now im pretty sure its mixed. I think I need to work on the consistency breath pressure/air flow though because ill start to get more and more wobbly as I practice (might've gotten too excited that I was getting somewhere and went a little too hard lmao). Rest assured ill be bingeing your air flow and neck tensions videos :) - also the free vocal lessons are great definitely helped learning the support mechanics.

I don't know if that's because I was practicing from time to time, or because of numerous videos from you on mixed voice - "Little Joe", "Stairway to Heaven" examples, but this particular way of achieving mixed voice works pretty good. Sounds nothing like yours ,though, still much thinner when I go higher ,and gets little bit too squeaky when I try to add some compression. But it FEELS great as long as I'm doing it clean, no pain whatsoever.

I like how you over-exaggerated the resonance change. Many voice teachers want to show you how it works by showing off and showing how well they have blended the two, but that doesn't help anyone learn what is really happening and know what to feel. Your video showed people what they should feel and where to place their resonance. They can then work on finessing the sound.

Hey Chris, awesome video! Your videos have revolutionized how I sing. I’m a big skid row fan, and as I’m singing along to Skid Row throughout my day, when I kick into my mixed voice (I use the fry technique to understand how to feel it right) it seems to be really rough, Sebastian Bach from skid row seems like he can control both his notes, and how rough his mixed voice sounds. Would that come with more practice? Or am I missing something?

Hi Chris! Thanks for your useful videos. I have a question, I have been working I'm my passagio and while I was looking for information I read about a concept called "covered" the sound that have a use in classical singing. The question is, in popular singing, I need cover the sound or just keep with my mix voice? Or maybe covered the sound while I am in mix? I'm a little confused. Thank u so much for your videos, are a blessing to everyone who's studying his voice.

I'm not sure I'd think about it at all... I'd just explore the fringes of the different sounds and sensations you can make and then tweak your approach based on how you sound in recordings. Guys if you haven’t find your mix it means you need to strengthen your head voice and your bridge is not well balance you’ll need to learn how to pass from the third octave to the fourth octave without any break and minimum air flow If you do it the right way and on a regular base I can guarantee in few months your mix voice will comes by itself.
