We didn't have a lot of time to get up to the mountains, much less the foothills, but we had to make the effort to get out and put in a few miles. That said, enter the East West Regional Trail that runs between Parker and Highlands Ranch, some 28 miles.
Granted, we only hiked a mere 6.03 miles, it was good to be out on a trail and in the outdoors on a beautiful Colorado day. We drove around looking for the trailhead, somewhat blind, Miller's phone wasn't getting a signal and Debbie's was almost drained. Eventually we figured it out, but once on trail it was more of a guessing game. None the less, we got in a good hike and found some new places to return to.
We parked at the Southridge Recreation Center and started out on the West Fork Big Dry Creek Trail and found our way over to the "unknown to us at the time" East West Regional Trail. We walked for a while until we came to another trailhead with a map where we discovered what trail we had been on. Definitely a trail we want to get back to a walk end to end. We returned the way we came and put in just over 6 miles.

When riding these trials on a bike there are barley any blind corners, which is nice since it helps avoid collisions with others. Good design from whoever mapped them out!

One of our favorite things about hiking in Colorado, big open bluebird sky days!

very beautiful wide open views and scenery! The maker was really nice too. Loved the doggies. Nice to see the housing area.

It's a new trail to us, an urban connector that stretched east to west for some 30 miles. Great to get in some miles close to home.

I like those big open views with glimpses of the front range. That Highlands Point marker is neat too.✌️

Definitely a fun little gem we stumbled upon close to home. We'll definitely have to get back out there and see the entire trail. A great backup when we don't have time to get up into the mountains.

One of the best things about Colorado, you're never far from a trail, urban or in the backcountry. 😎🐾

I’m shooting for 50 miles on my 50th this coming Friday. Pinery Loop Trail, Cherry Creek Trail, East/West Regional(with a side trail up the Parker Incline), Highline Canal Trail to Waterton with a return back to Highlands Ranch for a much needed pick up from my son. Wish me luck!

Been waiting for it to be completed. I was able to hike on trail from Parker to the CT Trailhead at Waterton Canyon in a day. 40 miles from my doorstep - exactly

This is just another great example of an impressive urban corridor trail system that connects into the high country and further destinations.

I’ve hiked to mile 210 of the CT. My plan is to be able to say I hiked from my doorstep to Durango.

That would be an amazing achievement at that! Not many people could say that! The CT is definitely, mile for mile, one of the most beautiful trails we've ever hiked 😎
