The original theme of Eastenders sounds good. EastEnders is a legend forever
@morgansifer2 жыл бұрын
The original theme packed a much bigger punch than today's watered down, sped up version. I miss it.
@theparrybrothers Жыл бұрын
The current version is at the same speed as this one, but it's definitely watered down compared to this one! This instruments used in this version allude to several different cultures and there's an ambience to the mix. The current version is just generic clean-affluent-British orchestra with no atmosphere to it.
@CrashFan036 ай бұрын
@@theparrybrothers idk what you're talking about it sounds nearly identical, just without the bells and it uses somewhat more modern synths. i think the ambience you're referring to is the older recording/mastering quality. if they recorded the original one today without any changes aside from the recording equipment i think it would sound almost exactly the same as the modern one

Yep, when EastEnders started the credits were 1'32. At some point, the TV marketing people got their hands on the channels and insisted credits be no longer than 30" (without a good reason.) It was to stop people switching over. TV marketing people aren't tele watchers, but they think they know how tele watchers (aka viewers) behave. If the signature tune is catchy enough, most people sing along to it. We all love a good sing-song! The marketing dept never understood that.

When did they ditch the Sunday omnibus? It was always something I would casually watch on a Sunday afternoon if I missed episodes in the week which I often did. It had a comforting familiarity to it much like alot of BBC weekend TV back then. I guess it must have been when they started doing more episodes in a week which was a bad move as the quality dropped and put alot more stress and working hours for all the staff and cast. An omnibus as well would be overkill I suppose.

@stephenmcconnell10006 жыл бұрын
I have to say that's not the case. I remember watching this with the family when I was 10 in 1986 and let me tell you the credits seemed to go on forever. The length of the music was dictated by the fact that for most of the main cast, only a couple of them were billed on screen at any one time and each pairing remained on screen for several bars. These days of course, the credits scroll upwards, very quickly, so the theme tune generally doesn't need to last as long.
@DuncanMcA4 жыл бұрын
Stephen O'Donnell yes virtually every UKTV Drama episode from the 80s had the two middle-eight credits. Only episodes with very few cast didn’t have it. After 1990 it was still occasionally used but less often. When it moved to the jazzy credits in 1993 they used the two middle-eight version of that for the first half dozen episodes or so then mostly the shorter (but still long by today’s standards) version. Now it’s the 1994 version, basically identical to today’s, the end credits are just about 10 seconds longer than the opening. Longer version (one middle-eight) only used on omnibus and extended episodes by that point.

I think PBS needs to bring this back television series back on don't ask me why they discontinued it because I don't know. I will say PBS made a bad choice to discontinue this TV series it was fantastic and it was very popular. Anyway I am surprised no other cable network has picked us up and continue this series like I said it was fantastic and it was well liked & loved and everybody enjoyed watching this. The other thing I'm very surprised is that the BBC America Network has never played this on their Channel. It is a British television show I think I could be wrong but I'm just saying. BBC America Network should have take this up and play this on their Channel well that's what BBC America is right. As far as I can remember they never did if they did at one point I'm sorry I don't know I hate being wrong. I'm just saying. I noticed something and I don't know if a lot of people has noticed this either. But if you ever did noticed this check this out right if you ever noticed all the great TV series that we all love and enjoy watching plus the good TV series or TV shows we all like and that's very popular and does great they want to take them off the air. And the ones that don't make sense or that nobody likes or enjoys or watches they want to keep on the air. Like really give us fans what we want. What we want is EastEnders back on PBS or another Channel like BBC America.

It’s the same with home and away or neighbours, we can watch that here in England, I find it odd that BBC America doesn’t show Eastenders, that’s crazzyyy😩
@IcySlavKat7 ай бұрын
It's sad because back in the early 2000s they actually showed proper British shows on BBC America although I don't think they ever aired EastEnders, but by around 2008-2009 almost the entire audience of BBC America came to watch Doctor Who and reaching peak viewership in 2011 because of the Series 6 opener of Doctor Who, and then slowly other shows started dropping off the channel until practically the only British shows on it were Doctor Who and Planet Earth by David Attenborough, but then after October 2022 Doctor Who left and is now exclusive to Disney+ so now all they play is repeats of Star Trek The Next Generation, the occasional other Star Trek series, and the very repeat of Planet Earth and Star Trek isn't even British the only remotely British thing about it is that The Next Generation star Sir Patrick Stewart and that's it.

This is not original theme and not the original map. The original theme theme went out of use in 1991, there was a very similar but alternate recording theme that was used for about 6 months 1991-1992. This theme is a splice of the single release version and came into use in 1992, and was used until this episode in 1993, after which they got the jazzy theme and the map went colour. This map sequence is technically the 3rd. The first was used in the first month in 1985. After which it changed ever so slightly and then remained constant until 1990. In 1990 this map appeared and was an enhanced and cleaned-up version of the original. It was used until this episode in 1993. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hd2jYNqDvM2ofZc.html That is the original theme and the 2nd map sequence. And yes, I probably do need to get out more.

Back in the days when the credits ran for so long that the middle-eight played twice and when sitars were used in the middle-eight to represent the East End's mixed ethnic groups. They seem to have got rid of that now in the current arrangement, which is a mistake, I think- especially since the East End of London is now more ethnically diverse than ever.

Shaun C Apparently, the first tune they commissioned was some orchestral masterpiece, yet was rejected because it wasn't very catchy. So they came back with something that would easily catch your ear and hook you into tapping or whistling along. Hence the heavy focus on simple bells, claps and whistles.
