To me, they are very colorist and just ugh!!! Went to garissa lodge with a friend of mine who was dark skinned and ALL THE VENDORS ignored her and tended to me!!! I am not even light skin, just not as dark skinned as my friend!! This happened like 20yrs ago and I remember it like it was yesterday 😏😡

Not necessarily somalia in Kenya, Kenya has a Somali ethnic community actually with an an ancestral landmass occupying about a third of Kenya, and borders the country of somalia. somalis are Muslims by birth, so islam is part of their culture. But in Kenya there are both somalis from Kenya and somalia.

For clarity Somalis are the 6th largest tribes of the 44 tribes in Kenya 🇰🇪 therefore we are no ones guest in Kenya . The caption “SOMALIA 🇸🇴 in Kenya 🇰🇪 “ above could mean you don’t have to go to Somalia 🇸🇴 to see Somalis . No big deal . Somalis are also the 3rd largest tribes in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 ( a country with population of over 120M ) Somalis own Djibouti 🇩🇯 too NB : However the pink-nosed 👃 man ( colonizers) divided the greater Somalia’s land into many countries Somalis are all the same , as in ( Same culture , language and religion) I personally love Garissa , wajir and Mandera the same way I love Mogadishu, Beledweyne , Bosaso , Hargeysa , Djibouti and Jigjiiga ! There is Somalia 🇸🇴 as a nation, and there are ethnic Somalis. Somalis live, the majority in Somalia 🇸🇴, and as ethnic groups of Kenya 🇰🇪, Ethiopia 🇪🇹, and Djibouti 🇩🇯. There are some Somalia-Somalis who came to Kenya as refugees, however, Eastleigh with Kenyan Somalis goes way back to colonial history. North Eastern is also a region of Kenyan-Somalis. Kenya is a multiethnic and multi-religious society. Every ethnic group has a region with the majority. This is our strength and partly, our weakness.

We have so many border communities in Kenya, not limited only to Somalis. For example, we have Luos of Kenya 🇰🇪, Uganda 🇺🇬 , and Tanzania 🇹🇿. We have Maasai of Kenya 🇰🇪, and Tanzania 🇹🇿. We have Oromos of Kenya 🇰🇪, and Ethiopia 🇪🇹, to name but a few. The only difference is that the Somalis case is sometimes politicized. But as my previous comment, Nation Kenya 🇰🇪, is a coat of many colors. No one is less.

I was born and bred in Pangani and had relatives in Eastleigh. In the late 80s and early 90s there were few Somalis in Eastleigh..there were many Ethiopians and Indians. Many Somalis migrated to Eastleigh in the 90s after the unrest. Ofcourse they got kids and hence Kenyan Somalis. Others went to the UK, Canada and US.

@@AliAsadMo It was not offensive. There are Somalis in Kenya who are from Somalia and there are those born in Kenya. It's the same in America, Kenyans who are recently from Kenya identify as Kenyans. Those born there are Kenyan Americans. They know where they came from and they identify as both. It's the same for everyone. I see people say, 'they are first second or third generation' and they say where they came from.

The somali population here are one of the 43 tribes that make up Kenya including indians. For a country dogged with systemic marginalization, all Kenyans must feel that they belong here. No wonder some Kenyans tell us to go back to our country...as if we are not Kenyans. You have also heard black people in the US & UK being told to go to Africa while they are in their own country. Entrenched marginalization.

Bantu tribes are many but if I start speaking in my language (Abasuba/Abakunta) some tribes in Rwanda and uganda can understand what I'm speaking Phonetics and cultural practices are somewhat similar. When you became American, did you have a Kenyan or a Somali Passport? If you had a Somali Passport, then you are rightly a Somali American. If you had a Kenyan Passport, then YOU are a Kenyan America. You can quickly check this on page one of your American Passport. It will tell you what Nationality you came from---
