Eastonmade Wood Splitters

3 жыл бұрын

We get asked a lot whether or not our 5-11 will run a box wedge or a 6 way. The short answer is; YES!!!
However we don't typically recommend in because I feel like it slows the machine down more than what's necessary.
Let me know what you think.
I really appreciate all the support and feedback guys. It means the world to us. If you haven't done so already hit the like and SUBSCRIBE button and I'll keep you up to date with what happening around Eastonmade.
Give us a call for more information!!!

Will a 5-11 run a box wedge? Absolutely. Speaks loads about your product and craftsmanship. Like you said though 9-16 and 12-22 would do it faster. Just really impressed seeing the 5-11 doing work with that box wedge!

I’d love either 5-11 or Axis, but I’m just doing for myself with my grandson helping, mostly we cut fell, buck, split and haul every weekend. Often in the woods, with a pickup to pull it up the hill, I don’t have logs delivered, but I’m working with trees from 12” to 30”, so need a log lift. I have a horizontal/ vertices, but but don’t like using the vertical, so I want your log lift. I do about 25-30 cords per year for OWB, but would like to finish the day of doing a cord or so and still walking.

Did some timed comparisons of the 5-11, 9-16, and 12-22 with the box wedge. The 5-11 is equal to the orhers in speed when it hits a knot because the tonnage ratings are the same. In clean wood, the 5-11 gets smoked with a box wedge.

Andrew, I have just caught up with all your videos and have enjoyed them all. I installed a woodstove in my house in 1998, I bought 4 face-cords of wood so I could try it out and found that I could get wood for free if I spent a little time going to get it and split it. I've been doing it ever since. I started splitting by hand. It is amazing how many frustrations of the day can be worked out whacking away on a chunk of wood. Quite a few years ago now I ended up spending my spare time hauling and cutting wood, but hadn't had time to split a supply for heating the house so I tried renting a few different types to see what I liked and didn't. I started looking to see if I could find a used machine, but found them to be a pretty hot commodity. A few friends were watching their local papers for me and I was finally able to bring one home. I have been mostly splitting for my own use, not seeing that I would want to do more than that mainly because with the equipment I had it really wouldn't be worth my time. Since I started using my own splitter, I have seen some videos of wood processors, but that is really beyond my scope. The Easton Made products are the first commercial grade splitters I have seen and from your videos I can see these could actually pay for themselves. Thanks for putting out these videos. They have given me a lot of food for thought. I was wondering whether you do any shows in Michigan? One other thing I would like to add is that I am an Ontario transplant in Michigan. It really brings me back to hear your conversations with others. All the best to you and I hope that I can see your equipment in person some day. Best regards, Pete in Michigan

Great demostration! I believe those paddles or bars riding on the conveyor surface, should be flipped over so the short vertical side will precede the higher vertical side of the bars. It seems this way it can bite or grab onto the wood pieces much better, maybe go one step farther, cut some sawtooth into the higher vertical side of the bar.🔥
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters 3 жыл бұрын
The saw tooth would help. The only downfall to that is that it wears out the rubber flap and the bottom of the conveyor. We found this out with our axis. Wood would get jammed as the paddles rotated around the top shaft of the were turned the other way. Really appreciate the feedback.

The 5-11 with the box wedge is definitely slower than it's bigger brothers but it looks faster than wrestling the same round through a single or 4-way wedge..... At least if I was doing the wrestling! Saves wear and tear on the operator. It looks like a great answer for someone who is doing wood for themselves and/or extended friends/family. Say fewer than 50 cords a year. As someone else pointed out it would make an awesome rental machine too!

I'm not sure if the first round was displayed at real time, but what looked like a piece of dead red oak about 20" in diameter, and was still pretty wet, but I timed it at 2:35, still far quicker than it would have taken with a conventional splitter from the big box store. Myself, I'm lazy and like to have the round on the splitting deck and touch it as little as possible, this fit the bill and provided consistently sized pieces as a saleable product.

Love your videos! In my opinion I don’t think it is any slower than you taking and using a four way. If you have to take those four pieces and split them again. Honestly it depends on the size you want. What if someone already owns that splitter. Instead of buying a new one then they can just but the wedge splitter!

You guys build a very heavy splitter. It's not for the faint of heart for sure. I've looked at your splitters and only wish you were closer to my location so I could talk to you about a few details where I think you could do some designing to make your great machines a little better than they already are. I bought what here in the USA was a really great splitter that I paid close to $10,000.00 bucks for and tore it all apart and re did it. It doesn't cycle as fast as yours and doesn't return on it's own. For that reason and some others your machine is better but could be just a little more clean than what I see. Perfection is always just one idea away. Nice splitter. And yes I did leave mechanical engineering school before obtaining a degree, but that has not stopped my mind from always tearing things apart to make them stronger, tougher but lighter.

I guess that box wedge is the same is the rest of the splitters, or at least up to the 12-22, so it does not cost you anything to offer it. Why not offer it. Now you have a video showing the speed of it and can refer the customer to this video. The speed isn't that bad, but a 12-22 is better. Someone upgrading from a home owner grade splitter would be happy. It would be great for the guy that does a few cords a year and want a commercial grade splitter with a box wedge. There was a guy that took a nothern tool splitter and put a box wedge on it. If you do some searching you can find on youtube. It had something like a 30 second cycle time.

Not sure i understand 3-1 box blade. Smallest we do is a 5 way the pieces are normally 4.5" wide. We could probably do a box wedge with no wings on the bottom effectively making it a 3 way

Shes a little slower than the big brothers but all in all for someone like me that heats with wood and does maybe 12 to 15 cords a year for my self and family that would be kick ass set up. We get some bigger stuff 18 to say 24 inches, and Im getting a bit long inthe tooth for the single wedge and with the big stuff even the 4 way isnt much fun. But this little girl seems to just eat the big stuff up

I feel like leave the box wedge for the 22-28 and the 12-22. And why do you run a single chain and paddles on the elevators instead of a belt
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters 3 жыл бұрын
I think so to. Belts tend to wear, slip and not track right. The chain is a positive drive all the time. Doesn't matter the weather or conditions.

It split so crooked you reversed the log. Maybe if you put the knife bevel underneath instead of on top, then it wouldn't have the uneven splitting problem. I don't burn wood but electricity may become unreliable or too expensive. Different people need different capacity splitters.
