@@EastonmadeWoodSplittersI found that keeping a squeeze bottle spray bottle with corn oil in it really helps the splitting with a couple squirts on the wedge when you know it's going to be a tough split

That tall wedge is really the ticket. I wish I had one on my 20 yr old Iron and Oak. If I ever replace this one, an Eastonmade will be the one. You have a great product.

Nice job Andrew. That big and tall wedge makes the smaller splitters able to handle that gnarly tree service wood. Great for the guy who is doing his own firewood and gets the free disposed wood from the tree guys from time to time.

Love it! That tall wedge is great. I'm in no place to tell you what works but I think you should try to double the depth front to back of the horizontal wedges. I use one like that and when these oversize pieces pass through the wedge the top two chunks just sit on the wings till you pull them back. No more picking them up off the ground or short stroking the ram and fighting to pull the round the rest of the way apart. Just a suggestion, l love your products and think you put out the best splitters on the market.

I don't often have too many rounds like that but having a well built splitter that can handle anything you roll into the cradle, is worth the money in the long run. No need to pull out an axe or sledge as I have had to do in the past with other splitters when the block is jammed onto a standard 6" wedge. Great idea Andrew. Cheers!

I'm here in the Pac NW and I regularly deal with fir & maple rounds this size and larger. with knots. I have an Axis machine on order and watching this makes me happy with that decision. I'd love to see you put an Axis through it's paces with this larger gnarly material. That log lift looks pretty skookum though I must say, should be able to handle whatever I can throw at it.

Thus past weekend at the p.b show, got to see alot of splitters to me there is no comparison. This splitter with that tall wedge I think is absolutely unbeatable. Also last week I was hauling those concrete walls for a local construction company and got to see one of your processors running down the highway, got me even more excited to get mine.thanks for this video.

A thought: keep the bulk of the log on operator's side. Let far side get shaved and leaves only one hunk for operator to put back in, instead of 2 pieces

Do you think this would work on my Optima? On my four way wedge the wood has a tendency to climb up because it seems the push block is so small...maybe I should just go with a two way wedge. However, I'm really impressed with my splitter, way more power then I thought it would have and have been using it for about four years now.

Looks like me wrestling large locust on my current splitter, looking forward to my 22-28 with box wedge on order. Single knife busts it up well on the 9-16!

I noticed that the flap at the bottom of the conveyer actually lifts the split wood over the the bars that are supposed to scoop them up ,would a brush arrangement do better ,or have you tried this already.

Always fun to watch your splitters doing their thing, Andrew. You know how roughing end mills have ridges on the flutes? I've often wondered how a splitter wedge would do with the same geometry. The edge of my wedges are machined on an arc and work pretty well, but it seems like a wedge with serrations might be another level yet. Have you ever experimented with anything like that?

That’s a great wedge. I wonder if you would have to run the big diesel splitter on idle or just barely pull the lever forward - trying to hold the log I don’t think a 5 second cycle time would be too safe. Sounds like a future video idea. Great video!

Can see a real appeal for people who have long split machines, up to 42” with this wedge. Good to see that it can be dropped far enough to be used as a single blade as well

Hey Andrew. Hope all is well. We split a cord yesterday, cut up the oversized wood and split with the wood splitter. I gotta say, it takes less time to split and stack a cord using a chainsaw (Husq 372 with 24" bar) and an Eastonmade splitter (12-22) with oversized wood (>14" or really crooked), than it does with a firewood processor (Hakki PIlki Easy 37) and smaller logs

That 9-16 certainly got a workout dealing with those big gnarly knotty fire wood rounds. That extra tall 4 wedge does a good job. Sometimes there is no substitute for a single wedge.

@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters It may be. Maybe I missed it. Anyway, I think you should make a point to advertise it. On the very rare occasion that a round gives me trounle I just drop the wedge down and it serves as a tall single, effectively giving me a 4-way and a single in one wedge. Another trick I use is that, if a gnarly piece gets stuck, I wrap a short nylon strap around the wood and the back of the pusher and let the cylinder pull it back. I use nylon because if it slips off, a chain wouldn't feel very good smacking me in the head. LOL Shalom/gw

@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters I spoke to gerry with a "G", but forgot to ask this. Im getting the 12-22 with boxwedge. My question- If I have (and i do) big nasty pieces that im pretty sure wont go thru the box wedge, then whats my next option? Probally wont go thru the 4 way either, but, if/can that "tall" 4 way can go low enough so I can use it as a single blade? I really didnt want to get 3 wedges with my order- a box wedge, a 4 way, and a single blade. In my use, im kinda thinking the 4 way wont get used much, as I can just use box wedge- but then, i do have narly notty pieces, and Im unsure which wedge configuration to order with my splitter. Hopefully my question makes sense :)

Yet another beastly performance by Eastonmade! So speaking of custom modifications...Has anyone asked to have an Ultra made with a bigger push plate? I know that it has been discussed on various KZfaq channels that people think it needs a bigger plate but from what I've seen Eastonmade says no.

I have thought about making the push plate bigger. The biggest issue is safety. Don't normally have to many issues as long as the operate understands how the machine functions

I'll be your Guinea Pig for a bigger plate. Too bad my Ultra is scheduled for Aug 2022. 😉. When I watch videos of guys splitting with the Ultra, especially with the 4 way wedge, it seems the block spins out a lot when it makes contact with the wedge. I'm my layman's opinion a bigger push plate would solve that or at least help. I'm far from an engineer so I could be completely off base. Keep up the good work Andrew. @@joelacost1430 need just the right size blocks for 6 way to work good. Don't get as uniform splits with it, can get a piece stuck easier, doesn't work as well for resplits, for me it's just not worth the effort to change from 4 to 6 way.

Have had a handful or guys ask. I find moving the wedge up and down will normally dislodge anything stuck on. Really appreciate the feedback

A short chain wrapped around the stuck round and the pusher works well just understand the splitter could break the chain so go easy.

We deal with this kind of wood often but not once has it occurred to me to use a splitter. All that handling and time to process one round seems like a lot of wasted energy. It's obviously a very good splitter but I do wood like that a lot faster by hand, and by the look of it use a lot less energy too. I just leave the rounder on its side and do 3 or 4 parallel rip cuts about 3/4 of the way through, stand it up and wack it with a dulled Swedish trimming axe. done in like a minute. 2 at the most. I'm almost 60 fwiw.

Andrew, I ordered the box wedge on my 12-22 specifically for the big gnarlies. Would you say that the tall 4-way fits best for a customer that doesn't want to make that jump all the way to a box wedge, or do you think there is a 'stall in the stable' for both?

I would normally try and sell a fellow both. The box wedge works great in clean wood and the tall 4 way works good for the really nasty pieces

That type of splitting is way harder on equipment. I’ve bent beams and busted push plates that way. Will all that stuff be under warranty if we split big twisty wood like that?

Yep we are pretty good with our warranty. As long as you don't run it over with a bulldozer we will normally cover it.

Great idea, what ever you added to the height of the center wedge add that to all your other wedges like on the 6 way, or just add the height to the center wedge. You have that big push block and all that power, see if your splitters can handle longer wedges. Might help splitting some of the wood. Thank you and have a great day

I don't think it is a terrible idea. It would add a lot to our operating costs and they are more awkward to handle.

I bent my tall 4 way had to use a tractor to get it out of the splitter.

I was just told today that a new wedge would be $750 shipped and that the only reason it bent was because of abuse on my part. I live in Washington and only split Douglas fir which is a soft wood so....

Your company makes some amazing toys for adults that like to play with wood. I still use my Troy bilt 27 ton log splitter, however it's sooooo slow. It's a good 14-15 second cycle time and that's being generous. I really like your 511 that Chris has.

That's definitely the 4-way I'd want. I don't get a huge amount of those big ugly rounds but I do get enough that it would worth the upgrade! It sure tames those big fellas. I saw it on Ben at Surviving Country Life's 9-16. It sure works well!

If I had to choose 1 wedge that would be it, especially for the Gnarly ugly wood. Looks like some of the wood that I split, LOL.
