Now you can stuff it inside a building and not have to worry about exhaust fumes. Great addition to a sawmill operation.

Looks good Andrew. Electric isn't for everyone but I think the guys that can run it are going to be happy with the change from diesel.

That’s an amazing machine I could see where a lot of folks could justify a machine like this saving the cost in fuel alone is enough but then to save the maintenance and downtime maintaining a diesel really starts to add up.

Chris “In The Woodyard” has been running some pretty nasty crap through his Eastonmade Processor. Honestly that thing you are bragging about here is nice stuff in comparison. Our Hakki Pilke Falcon 35 princess or actually more like Goldilocks, it too big, it’s too knotty, it’s, it’s too curvy, it’s too long. But in the right wood it’s fast as lightning. And we believe more efficient and profitable on the smaller diameter (up to 8”) than any of the big machines. Heck everybody is better at something, right?

Very helpful information on the electric Andrew. That's quite a reduction in operating costs, especially if the processor yard is close to the existing power source. Love the sound of the start-up - kind of like a jet engine. :)) Cheers!

With electric needing less power than hydraulic. Electric drive motors on chain functions with an on/off switch should cut down on manufacturing costs Electric drive motor on saw. It also should run cheaper not slowing down on cut and having to regain rpm. That seems to be where hydraulic motors use more power. Just an observation from an old Geezer that spent many hours in a log loader with a 60"circular slasher saw. Just a thought! Always enjoy Your videos.

The soft start is more efficient too, you only gain energy savings with the VFD if your running the motor at less then 60 Hz because of the inherit losses in the VFD.

I know you mentioned 'industrial' electricity. I'm not sure how I could even possibly attain that rate from my local cooperative. They advertise x amount for home use but what they don't factor into the cost to the consumer is the monthly meter charge of $50 for 'The Privilege'' of being hooked up to the grid.

Hi Andrew, Love the content of your channel. This electric option is an excellent alternative to the usual diesel systems. If I may suggest, it might be a good idea to go into a better cost comparison specifics regarding voltage requirements, hydro rates, demand rates, voltage steppers, 3 phase etc. etc. I understand that it might be overwhelming to think about it but if it is presented correctly it would make an excellent comparison. I am certain there are people that would have only thought about the diesel until the electric option could be thoroughly drilled down. Probably, the best argument for electric is it could all be covered and work in any weather. Just something to consider.

If you came into a large steel building or similar structure, you could run that thing 24/7 like a production line, no matter the weather, without issue with fumes.

Running it off of a generator is definitely environmental friendly. Generators make free electric.
@garylaszewski7380

@@terryelson5396 Hi there Terry. I was here implying that an electric splitter using power from the grid was environmentally friendly. But in this case, the "gen-set" burns fossil fuel (gas or diesel), which is not environmentally friendly. Hopefully, those who buy this electric splitter, will have a direct electric hookup, not a gen-set.
@terryelson5396
@terryelson5396 Жыл бұрын
@@garylaszewski7380 if it's ran off solar panels or windmills then its environmentally friendly. But most power plants burn natural gas or coal.
@garylaszewski7380
@garylaszewski7380 Жыл бұрын
@@terryelson5396 True! I assumed the grid is more environmentally friendly, than a gen-set. Per "The Carbon Footprint": A typical diesel generator emits 2.15 times more CO2 than the U.S. grid. Actually, I am impressed with generators, but I believe Andrew Easton intended this electric splitter to be using "grid power", not generator power. Best wishes Terry.

What brand of electric motor are using?
@BGWenterprises
@BGWenterprises Жыл бұрын
with the soft start, would a 50kw start the motor? Or would it need a bigger generator. Like 75kw . That must be somewhere around a 35hp electric motor, mabe bigger. . I know are pud wanted a similar amount for the meter and 50' of cable. More distance, and they just started jacking the price up. . 7 cents a kw will be likely way off, for anyone in the NE states. But out in the NW my home bill is at 7 cents a kw. We have loads of hydro power.

To where my processor is to plug into the block heater it cost me around $800 bucks Canadian. It's just a long extension cord .. and that's for 120... I could just imagine your not to far off from 15k to run a line that far , keep in mind your not just going to have a wire sticking up out of the ground.. your going to need a power shed.. so yeah I can see 15k .. copper is not cheap..

You forgot to touch on the cost of the electric vs. diesel engine. Meaning does the electric system cost more to buy when you order a processor? If so, roughly how much one way or the other?

What about the cost of the fuel to run the generator? I guess you are using the generator for demonstration purposes. Guess no one would use a generator in the field.

G'day Andrew, we pay around $2.00 per litre for Diesel, is your electricity provided by Ontario Hydro ? my father in law worked for them for 40 years he would tell me how cheap their power is. Electricity is expensive in Oz these days because they are shutting down our coal powered stations and natural gas because we're told it's bad for the planet and yet we have one person per one thousand tree's, every time a volcano erupts or theres a massive wildfire this is not considered. I'd be happy with nuclear generation we have a large ancient land mass sitting fair square in the middle of the Indo/Australian Tectonic plate we don't have Earthquakes the third largest deposits of Uranium vast uninhabited ares of desert to store the waste until we work out how to clean it and a similar type of people like in Canada that understand and appreciate the responsibilities that come with such a technology 👍.
