Hello, Shiny Crafty People! Welcome back to the channel.
Tim Totten here and today I'm going to walk you through the entire process to make a kitchen boa (also called a towel scarf) so you always have kitchen towels at the ready!
This is an easy task that anyone who can sew a straight line can do!
HERE'S THE LINK TO THE NOTCHES SEWING VIDEO: • Quick and Easy DIY Gif...
Here's what you'll need:
1 cotton kitchen towel
1/3rd yard of cotton fabric cut from a bolt (roughly 12 inches by 44 inches)
6" x 12" of accent fabric (if desired)
Matching thread
Sewing machine
Scissors or rotary cutter
Pins or clips
When I'm not shooting a tutorial, I can usually make one of these kitchen boas in less than 20 minutes. Time will vary depending upon whether you add the accent fabric or choose to fold and sew at the neck for less bulk.

I love this! I made 2. With one I added 3" pockets to the bottom of the towel pieces so when picking cherry tomatoes, etc. there's a place to put them. Thank you. Thank you.

I have seen quite a few videos on kitchen boas and I like that you didn't sew the length first, ensuring that you have a perfect fit for the towel. I like the idea that you made the neck more narrow. Great job!

I like the narrowing of the neck as I have a short neck, brilliant. I probably would have just folded it over. Thanks

I made one (and an entire video that was pretty bad) without folding it over and the wide neck was soooo annoying I had to redo it.

Oh my, Timothy. I have watched about 20 videos on this scarf so far today (not feeling well so it's a KZfaq day) and I have to say I love your scarf the BEST I have already watched the one you referred to. I am so glad I kept going and found yours. I love love love it. I don't see any need for all that fabric around the neck I feel it would be annoying. I am making a friend an apron from a recycled dress and I wanted to do something else with the fabric this scarf fits the bill. I also want to make a couple pot holders from the rest of the fabric. I don't know if I have told you on other videos but I love your channel you do an awesome job. Now I don't know which side of the folded towel I want on top LOL I love them both. LOL

A thought on the towel halves facing opposite directions: Then the boa can be worn either side up. There is no wrong side. Over time, each side should wear equally.

Great job! A tip for users: make sure you don't use these for potholders if they are damp or you will get steam burns. I love the idea of always having a towel handy.

You are a great person for me to follow. Love the video have 3 sashes to make. Question what rotary cutter do you use? I have changed all my blades but mine doesn’t make it easy like yours.
@timothytotten9409
@timothytotten9409 8 ай бұрын
I use an OLFA rotary cutter. Would never use another kind. It's my favorite. But I also change blades regularly and I put quite a bit of pressure on the cutter. You should never put more pressure on the blade than you can comfortably control.

Why are you using that particular foot on your machine instead of the standard foot? When I was learning to sew that was the zipper foot. Thank you

Why not just cut the neck piece with curved edges, going from full width at the towel ends to only about 2-3” wide in the center? You would just sew 2 long seams instead of one.

No laundrying first? I cannot bring myself to sew anything wo washing & drying in HIGH heat for starters. Otherwise items come out super wrinkled upon washing. Not good for selling or gifting.
