My wife got me a 12ft jon boat for father's day. I absolutely love it. I can finally do some decent crappie fishing. With that said, nothing beats wading down the creek catching smallmouth and sunfish in 90+ degree days.

I had a Jon boat for years, I even took it from Burlington, Iowa, to the Lake of the Woods. People thought I was crazy, but I caught fish with it. We went out on the mud flats of the lake and on the Rainey River. It is the perfect boat. Enjoy your Jon boat.

Grew up fishing in a John boat with my dad . Have an old canoe I’ve been fishing out of for over 30 years but switched over to a kayak a couple years ago . They all serve a purpose and are great ways to get out on the water !!Bass boat is next ( after I remodel the kitchen for the old lady ) lol Great video as always

I'm actually thinking of selling the kayak and getting a jon boat instead. Harbor freight sells those little folding trailers, which would be great for that boat, plus like you said, you can haul more stuff, and still light enough to move by hand. You make a good point, dude.

I bought an 8 ft Sun dolphin off of FB marketplace. $500 with the trolling motor. Haven't been out in it this year because the truck I haul it in needs tail light work. My best friend and I used it alot last summer. I still want a kayak so I can go alone. They are lighter and easier for 1 person to handle. Being 58 yrs old, I am not as strong as I used to be.

I love my Jon boats. I have a 16 foot Lowes that is 37 years old and still works as good as they day my dad bought it. It says in the water, in a boat house pretty much all year long. I also have a 16 foot alumacraft, I bought the hull brand new 22 years ago, and power it with a 1974 25hp Evinrude, and tow it on a 1974 trailer, both I bought for $200 and fixed up. I have caught so many fish, and have so many good memories in these boats.

Pimpin' the Jon boat, cool. Those are good reasons to prefer a Jon boat over a kayak, but based on the popularity of a kayak, there's just something about them that makes them awesome fishing vessels.

Seeing you out in the boat is awesome it really opens up more options of where you can fish. I still have my 12ft Simi v john boat but I did just buy a 17ft Bass tracker. Upgraded to a bigger tin can.

Great video! I have a jon boat just like that I tournament fish out of with Slay Nation. I put a wood floor in it and that made a huge difference with noise while sneaking up on bass.

I have a 10’ pond prowler, the anchor latch deal looks promising, so I ordered one today. I’ve been checking out those pedal kayaks but at $2,000, no way I could justify it. Plus I watched a vid where the guy was bundled up in the cold, standing on kayak and it looked way too easy to fall in. I love this boat, completely stable with plenty of room, and a much better fit for me. Love the aluminum kayak content 😁

I agree, whatever it take to get off the bank and out on the water is good. I use to consider a big bass boat or John boat but got a kayak instead. It's a night and day difference from bank fishing and out on a boat.

lovin the john boat! i have a 12 aluminum boat as my main vessel! tows easily with the van and holds all my gear just right! 40lb trolling motor as well suits my fine!!

Go Hawkeyes! I have a jon boat and love it. Here in NE Iowa the lakes seem few and far in-between. The rivers are were it's at and a jon boat is hard to beat for the rivers. Keep the great videos coming. Keep on keepin on and I hope your next catch is your best!

Love the boat upgrades! Those side scan graphs are pretty crazy, It's a game changer on new lakes for sure. I'd love to loan you my kayak just so you could experience it, it's a very different experience than a boat! I think jon boats and kayaks are both great fishing platforms 👍

That boat is rad. I also use the old "manual power pole" aka good old steel anchor. And hopefully I'll learn to catch fish like you do someday! Thanks for the vids, you've been a true help as I've begun learning this art of bass fishing at middle age.

If wind is a problem try mounting your trolling motor in the front it will make fishing on windy days much easier. Used small outboards are cheap and easy to find. A 3hp to 5hp should be plenty to move a small john boat and it would also help save your battery and give you a rudder on windy days.

Got a 12 footer this spring. Definitely creates options especially with a small gas motor. Have a kayak too, jon boat has many advantages very few disadvantages, especially when the kid shows interest.

I recently got a 1442 jon boat and built a bass deck on it. All I need is a gas powered motor and it'll be the perfect little boat. I was looking at getting a expensive hobie kayak but I'm way happier that I got a good deal on a jon boat. I can stand up all throughout it and it's stable as hell. I can put up to a 15 hp motor on it and take it to decent sized fisheries. One day I will upgrade to a bass tracker or hopefully even a Nitro 17. For now though I love my jon boat.

I like your boat I think it's cool, I had a 12 foot jon boat for a while I liked it, The only thing I don't like about them is you have to climb over the seats. I have a 17 ft walkthrough windshield style boat that I'm working on and want to get back on the water with. But I totally understand what you were saying about the boat you have and what your capabilities are with it. Enjoy yourself fishing and I really enjoy your videos 👍🎣

I like the new "dark and stormy" music you chose to go with this video. I have a 16' V-bottom aluminum boat with an old 15hp Evinrude, I found I just didn't like to have to launch and land it by myself. This year I bought a 12'7" kayak and enjoy it a lot more. I've still got to figure out a good way to get it from the trailer to the shore and back in a few lakes I fish. I did consider a jon boat but went with the yak instead.

I love my 12' "aluminum kayak" Jon boat with an electric trolling motor! It was about $200 and is so much cheaper to register and maintain than a bass boat. And like you said, it gets me off the bank and into those impossible to reach spots where the bass hang out.

I agree with you on the Jon Boat. Good way to start out on a low budget and you have more room than a kayak. One suggestion I'd do would to either screw or rivet the tool caddy to where you mounted it. I don't think you'd have to worry about anything leaking since it's on the bench support and would be better support for the caddy. It's looking good!!!👊🏻💪🏻 Stay Safe & God Bless!!!

On my Kayak I used the velcro heavy duty strips to secure things . They are quite sticky so they hold up really well. I got them in the sewing isle at my local Walmart. I just thought of that when you were showing the Rapala accessory holder. Awesome boat Debo!

I'd love to see more Jon Boat vids! I have a 12ft that I put a standing platform on in the front, which makes it a blast to bass fish from. Doing that mod most definitely makes it a 1-person fishing boat though. I got the OldTown Topwater 120 PDL and ever since then I haven't been in the Jon Boat once...so I wouldn't call them the same. The kayak has allowed more flexibility for me in the water and I feel it's more stealthy when coming up on things, also easier to anchor since I have a power pole on mine. Without a trailer, a kayak is less of a hassle for me to load and unload, which makes me want to fish more too.

Those are perfect for South Jersey. I enjoy the added fitness aspect of peddaling my kayak but those Jon boats are perfect for small lakes/big ponds.

Nice!! I bought an old 14 foot v-boat and trailer for $800. With nothing but KZfaq videos (mostly Anthony Jones and Adam Ryan) since I have absolutely no carpentry skills, I was able to install decking and make a pretty sturdy bass boat! I added a foot control trolling motor up front and a Garmin fish finder. Works perfectly for the lakes around here which are almost all electric only. Had to have a friend with welding skills sturdy up my trailer since the boat became much heavier. Other than that, I've had very few issues and I'm catching way more fish!

Small simple boats are underrated. I had a 16' with rod locker livewell and all that other stuff. Sold it because iI could in many ramps because of my 2 wd truck. Bought a 14' shallow v and am much happier. Plus now I don't have to take other people with me.

Cool video. And yes, the Jon boat is a better option than a kayak. Started with a Vibe 11’ kayak and within a year I sold it and treated myself to a Marlon SP14 Jon boat. (I chose the size because the smallest trailer that could carry the 14’ was the biggest trailer I could fit in the garage. 🤷🏻‍♂️) Did a semi bass boat conversion creating three decks while maintaining the middle and rear seating - due to my wife deciding it makes a nice boat for sunset “cruising” on the bay with another couple. Also using a trolling motor, going with a 62# thrust due to the bigger size, though all trolling motors tend to top out around 5MPH. If the tool holder stickies give way, you can safely screw or rivet it to that same spot with no worries. Also if you ever decide that you want a wider space between your rear poles, you could mount them on the horizontal bar a few inches up the trailer (temporarily remove your wires until after the install) and it allows you to slide the poles in and out to customize the spacing - though with the ease you can maneuver the boat, that may not be an issue. Diehard Jon boat fan looking forward to more of these vids!! 😎👊🏻

I'm with you on something, anything, to get off the bank. World of difference. I prefer kayaks though. Portability is the issue. I can car top my kayak. I've never seen a Jon boat on top of a vehicle. And the put in locations are more plentiful with a kayak.

I use to have a 12' alumacraft jon boat. Had a trolling motor on the back of it. That thing would blow around like a leaf on the water. Even a decent size bass would pull it around. It was a fun boat for smaller bodies of water. Kinda miss it alittle.

I love the videos you do about or from your boat. I'm trying to decide if I want to get a pedal drive kayak to replace my paddle driven yak, or if I should maybe get a Jon boat or a flat back canoe so that I can get a motor. Any of those will allow me to get to places that bass boats can't go.

Probably not the first to say it, but you can always get some self tapping screws for your tool holder if you’re going to leave it in that location… no chance of letting water in under the seat 😬. A Jon boat or kayak are tempting… but with possibly 4 kids interested in joining me it may not work out 😆.

A pool noodle works great to dry your lures out. I just hook mine into a little piece of one and wait for it to dry out before I put my lures up

I would suggest putting some reflective tape on the pvc pipes in the back. Anything extra to help people behind you see that you’re towing something.

Absolutely perfect Debo rig. Can you put a collapsible rudder on the back to help with wind and steering? I've seen them before but don't know anything about them. I'm 81, have a 16'9" BassCat Margay with a 100 HP Mariner. No longer tournament fish and don't run 30 miles up and down the Arkansas River. Would like to trade with someone who has a decent johnboat with a small kicker motor. Love your videos.

I picked up an Intex Mariner 4 pre-pandemic for around $300 because of limited space. It works surprisingly well for an inflatable. BTW have you thought about getting one of those power wheel adapters for Dewalt to try with your trolling motor?
