Can you use the old flange to mark the new holes in the plastic flange? Put them together and drill it out.

Previous shower pan looks to be installed on a flat non pitched surface. Which was common practice back in the day until someone figured out that the pans needed to be pitched! So weather the weep holes were plugged or not all the water could never escape from under the floor tile and mud would always remain wet!

Is there a solution for a 2" drain pipe? Would you just NOT use the 3" adapter ring and instead put the FloFX drain directly down into the pipe? Seems like the adapter sealed and bolted to the cast iron drain bottom makes a good transition.

My question for you is, if you had to use the old cast iron flange, how would you secure the mortar bed and sheet membrane to it, for a 100% waterproof connection? Also would you use a liquid membrane like aqua defense or hydroban around the corners and drain? Thanks in advance. Keep up the great educational videos.

What products would you recommend using for a van build shower? After numerous people I knows shower pan having hairline cracks I decided to make my own pan, with a combination of flex seal on a plywood box, hydro ban, etc, however, I’m not sure if the products I’m thinking of are the right ones for the job. Hey Issac...Do you guys use 4x4x16 curb block & 1x4x16 curb cap block to install your showers curbs? Also when building benches do you use 8x8x16 block to build benchs?

Removed tub that had a 4 to 6 inch drain from the wall. Got plumber to come in and move the drain to 9 3/4 (that’s the furthest we could go before breaking concrete) so I could install a schluter shower pan. However now the drain sits to high on the pan. Drain is about 2 3/8 from slab. Can defiantly fix but I’m trying to avoid recalling plumber to re do his work and cut into the slab. As this is a friend and he is not charging me. I have a few thoughts in mind but need some clarification and some advice. I could pour concrete and level it out to where the schluter drain and pan would fit. Or I could use the Oatey drain ( sits 1 1/8 from slab and do the shower with 4to1 mud bed. Prefer to use the pan but willing to the the mud bed. Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

"It failed because of the wood curb". Yeah, I'd like to see that. hundreds of thousands of homes have wood curbs and never a failure, unless they came loose. And it sure beats flammable flexo-curb.

So if I saw right, you tucked the corners between the curb and wall board? Never thought about doing that. Pretty cool overall with the flood test 3 hours in. I want to try this.

Great work as always. I’m about to start a very large shower pan, 9’x9’ and doing the dry pack and getting the sheets on properly should be challenging given the size, so the more I watch you go through the steps the more I’m mentally preparing myself for this task.

I'm sure this is in another video, but how do you measure the sheet membrane? It's obviously pre-cut. Do you just have a 2" overhang on each side from the inside dimensions of the pan?

I never used that drain, but I'm wondering, can't a white marker do the same job as that torch? I would just soak the bolt head with any marker and that's it. I'm sure the torch would ve more precise but it seems a little too much. For some reason that caught my attention.

Can I put one of those acrylic shower pans over that using this method?

I've had the same problem with my DeWalt drills dropping bits. 20V is worse than 12V.

Hey bud I am diy my walkin shower and I didn't Accommodate for the becker board and my drain is to close to the wall and I have a square drain but it won't screw in cause of the becker board any ideas ????

You want your mud about 3/4 of an inch higher than your drain at the surrounding walls in a shower this size just to make it easy on you guys wondering what a good number go for is when doing this

Better way to more accurately find the locations of the bolts lay a piece of paper down trace the drain so you know it's centered the trace or punch the holes out on the paper and transfer to the flange. Just keep a yellow folder of paper in the van for anytime you need a quick template. Good work though!

I have a 2 inch cast iron drain so the adapter cannot go down into the pipe. Im going to turn the adapter over and bolt it down that way. Its just a little higher than it would be the other way.

Important question! I have an old cast iron drain without access to it from underneath the subfloor. I have a linear drain I want to install. Is it possible to just use the universal drain body from the floFx, cut an ABS “tail piece” to glue into drain and set my linear drain into the Universal body? Please help

I want a Heavy Duty Traditional SOLID Pre-Sloped Fiberglass or PVC Manufactured Pan with well thought out Pre-Sloped Curbs (STURDY, Flat, Squared OFF and Sharp / Not Rounded Corners) that screws to a already flat, smooth, level, plum Wood Flr with a vapor barrier underneath. This will last a LIFETIME Without Worry if installed correctly . . . especially if it Utilizes a FloFX Type Drain and skip the tile inside of the pan. Watch and listen closely to this video ( just 1 of 100's ( below ) on YT ) . . . and the many video's from TileCoach . . . This TINY Hole Caused This ENTIRE shower to FAIL

Why not make the curb out of concrete bricks? That’s how I make my curbs and shower benches and haven’t had a fail yet. But I also use a PVC liner too. I nerve tried kerdi

Looks like 1 1/2” galv. Should be 2” to meet code in norcal. And why not use the top of the old flange to mark the holes? Lol 😆

Is it possible to install this on a preexisting custom tile shower pan without having to remove the entire pan. Reason being, a round drain was installed on the square tiled pan leaving a small but noticeable gap between the drain and the surrounding tile. Not only is it visually unappealing, difficult to keep clean but leaves concern about what problems may arise that can not be seen. Thanks!
