I thought it was an outstanding video to begin with, but what really impressed me was that this man took the time to answer all of the questions below. Big thumbs up. Not a hugely important question here, but do you have any idea roughly how much time assembly should take with the wood cut already for someone who is not mechanically inclined?

We would have finished them in maybe 1 hour... but we ran about 10 short of screws on each tank ... (totaling 20). We are so proud. Thank you and God Bless you.

I do have a question! How would you go about adding a shelf and some plywood doors/covering the frame? Could you simply cut the plywood to size and screw them in? (Coverings) And for the Shelf, would you need 2x4 frame for them or could you use more plywood?
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
Your welcome, and just you could just cut the plywood and screw it into the frame if you needed to build a shelf to hold extra weight you could cut some shorter 2x4s and install it that way as well.

Your earlier stand build video made me want to build a riser/drawer to put under my 20 long and 10 gal tanks which are about the same height. They're on a sturdy wood credenza now, which is kind of low, and even sitting you don't get the full picture, hence my desire to build a riser for them and incorporate drawers, just because, you know, DRAWERS. LOL you can never have enough drawers especially with the plethora of tools and supplies needed for this hobby :-D

1:55 that’s funny. I’ve tried to get some 2x4’s cut at Home Depot and lowes. At both places they completely ignored me. I remember waiting around for someone to come help me for near an hour at the home depot. I went to the cashier and told her I needed assistance there. She called for assistance at wood cutting, and then I ended up waiting another 30 minutes until I stopped an employee. He told me “can’t you see they’re all busy right now”. And I left. Similar experience at lowes

Same story, I went to both of those locations and they refused to make any cuts to length, even when offered money. Unfortunately these hardware stores are full of employees who only stay for ~6 weeks before quitting, nobody wants to be there which I understand completely, but it really affects the customer experience. I'm totally out of luck as no store in town would make the cuts for me.

Essentially you would build it the same way but add vertical braces every two feet across the front and back as well as cross braces every two feet on the top and bottom shelves of the stand, general construction code has two by fours rated at a thousand pounds at the point of failure for each vertical 2x4

Yep and that 8,000 lb is at the point of failure since a vertical 2x4 can hold 1,000 lb at failure point So I would figure the safety rating on this would be about half of that at 4,000 lb, which is still about the weight of a car 😆

If you get more than 1 snake you can get a snake rack system like 6 high and each rack you pull out is big enough for a 6ft boa. I like those better than a reptile tank for a snake. Uses less space in the room unless your fine with a reptile tank.

Planning on making my own stand when i go to setup a 75 gallon 👍🏻 Hard to find any decent prebuilt stands that aren’t super expensive lol

And even when they are expensive they still made out of cheap particle board. Don't know why at those prices they just don't make it from real wood.

This stand is overkill for the 40 gallon aquarium, but I like the concept of better be safe than sorry. Thanks for the idea. The only thing I will do differently is pre-drilling the screw holes (to prevent splitting).

@@TrafishAquatics I've built my first 40 gallon breeder +10 gallon (same level) stand using your guidance from this video. Used the entire 2'x4' 3/4" plywood for a stand that has the 40 gal and the 10 gal tanks next to each other. Speaking about overkill 🤣🤣🤣 I've used Titebond 3 Ultimate wood glue for extra strength. lol 🤣🤣🤣

Is it okay if some of the screws split the wood on the top frame for the stand I built? Or do I have to start over?
@DennyMK007
@DennyMK007 Жыл бұрын
@@Mante310 I’d remove the screws splitting the wood and apply Titebond 3 Ultimate wood glue and clamp it in place. After the glue cures you will have stronger than the original state of the wood and can screw the screws back in place.

Took me 5 2x4's to get mine put together for my 29gal tall. About to screw the boards together as we speak. and it only cost me $43!! Thanks so much!

@@TrafishAquatics I had some uneven Ness on my fish tank stand. to fix that I figured I’d just move the leg down a bit more to compensate for it right? Other than that it might need a good sanding.

Wow this looks super feasible, and would save a whole lot. But I would it wobble, and I'm curious how other people kind of made it prettier it in the end?

I used 2 by 6 all thru with 2 of them on top running long wise for a 50 gal I should not need plywood on top would I?

Love the video. Is there a safe way to add feet? I don't want to accidentally scratch my would floor.
@TrafishAquatics
@TrafishAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I would add feet to this stand necessarily, But you could get sheets of felt and cut it to fit along the bottom of the stand to provide a soft contacting surface between the wood and your floor It should prevent scratching

I’m having a baby soon so I’m using more of the 300 gallon build template for the 60 gallon I’m bringing in. I want that stand to support my house if my baby has a chance of crawling under.

Just got a 29g with the black rim that creates a gap in between the bottom glass and the rim itself. I'm wondering if it would be better (or worst/unnecessary) to rather have the stand fit for the bottom glass rather than having it sit on the black rim (so as the rim would come around the wood)? I'd of course cover the top of the stand with wood and a thick foam mat.

If I wanted to build this a little bigger and also have the front bottom open to be a desk, with a little desktop 60 gallon breeder 😂. Could I make that bottom front corner end shortly after the vertical corner post and maybe just put a crossbeam going to the back there for stability?
