This video shows the felling and processing of a couple red maple tree trunks into firewood after their tops had snapped off and fallen in storms. The trunks were the perfect size, and nice and straight making hand splitting a breeze.
Firewood production can be elaborate with lots of power equipment... but for most of us it's just a chainsaw, a splitting maul, and something to haul the wood ( a tractor, UTV or pickup truck).
Working by hand for an hour or two here and there on the weekends, it's easy to produce enough firewood to heat a typical home.
This hour and a half of productive recreation yielded enough firewood to heat our house for over a week.
Equipment used:
Stihl MS261C chainsaw
Ford 1700 compact tractor
Homemade 3 point hitch carryall
Clamp-on pallet forks
8lb Splitting maul

Thanks for doing another great cold start! Dang I love your tractor! You even have my favorite key. I've got 2 different keys, one of them has a very tiny head on it, and it hurts my fingers holding it for the glow plugs.

It runs well but has its problems. The 2 cylinder is a little unique. It gets interesting when temps are down in the 20s or below. Can take a few attempts to get running. The block heater cord is frayed, otherwise that would make it easy… That’s the original key. I have another key that is aftermarket and doesn’t have a nice big head on it.

@@ProductiveRecreation mine was finicky too. I put high performance glow plugs in it. Also, because of how the ignition is, once you try to fire it up, if it's running really badly, you can run the glow plugs while the engine is trying.
