Excellent, excellent, excellent. Perfect timing, I've got a kingpin to replace on my '62 EPUP. Did you use the kingpin press to get out the old one, or do you have an equally outstanding trick for removing the pin ? Either way, thanks again, excellent video.
@1mattbutch Жыл бұрын
Thank you sir! If I remember correctly, I just used a BFH to remove it.

@@1mattbutch I have an Italian speed wrench, very close to a BFH. Thanks again for this outstanding video.

Where did you get the replacement parts for the kingpins and other parts? Are they really that hard to get out?
@1mattbutchАй бұрын
I wish I could remember exactly where, but I just did a search for 1970 Ford F100 kingpin kit and a lot of kits came up. And yes, it can be hard if there are rusty parts and old solidified grease. I got as much of the old grease off as I could and used easy off oven cleaner, heavy duty in the yellow can to clean the parts good then pressure washer. Use WD-40 to get the water out of everything, then some penetrant and a BFH should get it apart.

I didn't see you install the seal. Did it not have one the size of an oring with it?

You are correct, sir! That’s what I meant when I said at the end I was 98% done. In the video, you see the O-ring and end cap when I laid out the parts. I was just focusing on some quick tips to make the hard part of the job easier.

WAS IT HARD TO REMOVE THE SPINDLE OUT. I CANNOT REMOVE IT AFTER REMOVING BOTH TOP AND BOTTOM CAPS AND LOCKING PINS. SPRAY PENETRAING OIL ON LOCKING PINS OVER NIGHT

Hi Ashley. Do you mean the old king pin? You have already tried a bfh?

How do you check to see how many shims you need at the top? I seen you used 2 but how did you come up with that number. Thank you.

Probably a feeler gauge above or below that bearing you have to put in before you drop the pin all the way in.

I NOTICE YOU LOCK PIN SLID IN EASY . MY DOES NOT , DO I NEED TO HAMMER IT IN OR DO I HAVE THE WRONG PART
@1mattbutch Жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley- did you put the pin in the freezer and hone out the other parts so they are clean? You shouldn't have to hammer it in. If everything is clean it will be real tight but wiggle the parts to help.

I accidentally ate my kingpin smh because I forgot I put it in the freezer

No shame buddy. I have made that mistake myself.

@@1mattbutch but seriously. Thanks for the step-by-step. This will help me when I get to replacing them. Right now I’m soaking everything in penetrant oil

Did you have to ream the bushings ?

No sir they worked out fine just the way they came. Are you having problems with them? Or just wondering?
