This hack makes getting the lid on and off of a 5 gallon pail super easy. No more struggling using 3 hands to get the lid off. These 5 gallon buckets are incredibly popular and the lids can be a hassle to remove. Takes a few minutes and your bucket lid is now simple to remove.

The problem with this idea is that now the seal is ruined and atmospheric moisture will seep its way in and makes it one big clump of salt.
@chrisnotap

Correct. But these lids don't seal 100% anyways. It's not for every situation.

I use the Gamma 2 lids that spin off and on. Great for dog food. Keeps the roaches out and the freshness in. 5 gallon bucket holds about 25 pounds of food and the scoop.

I agree that this will work amazingly in some situations, but also agree with other watchers that the contents, depending on what that was, could definitely spoil. I keep salt and vitamins (for my horses) in mine, so it wouldn’t work; however I found the perfect solution (for me), and that was purchasing a “bucket lid opening wrench” from Temu… it cost me AU$1.98!! It works brilliantly… I haven’t struggled with the lids once since purchasing it. I’m sure you’d be able to purchase the same thing in many places, but doubt you’ll find it any cheaper!! I love your videos mate… keep them coming! Much love from Brisbane, Australia. ♥️♥️🇦🇺

An easier way to take the lids off, is just to sit on top the bucket(mainly put all your pressure in the middle), and lift one side up at a time. Also sitting on the lid is also an easier way to put the lids on as well. Cheers

Great idea, but the salt will now draw in the moister through the parts of the lid that’s no longer sealed. The other option is to warm up the lid using a hairdryer once the lid is warm it will pop right off and once cooled down it will be as sealed and as tight as it was before you had heated up. Heating the lid is just getting the plastic to relax just enough to get it to pop off.

As one guys already said, great but now it won't seal. I'd rather have a sealed container, if you don't need it sealed why have a snap on lid on it anyway? A regular put on lid will do.

Well, upside down ... the lid did not come off, but the contents DID come out (in this case, salt) ... so that kind of defeats the purposed of having a lid because moisture and the like can get in with this method. Of course, this only matters depending on the contents of your bucket.

Not a bad idea. 👍 Except storing salt like that wouldn't work where I live because there's too much humidity during the summer... The salt would suck up enough moisture that it would turn into one big chunk. Come December, I'd have to figure out a way to regranulize the salt. 👎

I would say that if you have a "permanent" bucket that needs to be sealed, it might be worth getting a gamma lid instead. They're like $8, but they're worth it.

u could slip a plastic bag over it then cover it and it would probably work fine; I live in Florida so always dealing with moisture from humidity and thunderstorms. I put plastic baggies over the jar before I screw on the mason cap for pickled items because the vinegar rusts the mason lids, also for glass jars of touch up paint. Maybe try it? I love this hack and hate wrestling with those difficult lids.
