Thank you! We are pretty analog in my house. I really find value in blending the two offline and online learning types but we lean more toward offline. So helpful to see how EP works offline. This feels easier to me. I'm going to try it!

Thanks for doing this! it helped me a lot in deciding whether or not im going to use Genesis Curriculum.. May I ask what is expected from each reader book (rainbow readers)? Is there any reading comprehension questions or what is the child expected to do after reading a chapter? thanks :)

Eirene Soegijanto No, if you want comprehension questions I recommend getting the Easy Peasy readers.

Great video! I'm considering using easy peasy this year. Have you had success with getting a beginning reader to progress with this curriculum? Can I just use the easy peasy workbooks and parent's guides AND use the online too?
@EducationalRoots
@EducationalRoots 5 жыл бұрын
Brandi Cole Yes! I've taught 2 kids to read using Easy Peasy/Genesis Curriculum during their kindergarten year (now first and third grade). You can definitely use the workbooks AND go online to do the games/activities. You just don't HAVE to if you have the WORKBOOK (not printables) and parent guide. Hope this helps. We love Easy Peasy!

Are there tests or quizes in math and language arts books?
@EducationalRoots
@EducationalRoots 5 жыл бұрын
Great question! No, there isn't. Here's an answer I pulled off the Easy Peasy FAQ page: If there isn’t a test there, then there is no test. Why do you need a test? You are with your child every day and probably already know his or her strengths and weaknesses. That said, I include grading guides for high school courses using online quizzes, written tests and grading rubrics. Lower levels do not have grades. You are welcome to create your own grading system. You are welcome to track any grades you create using your own system, or you use a parent-created grading sheet. I personally DO NOT recommend keeping any grades unless you are required to. allinonehomeschool.com/faq-contact/

Great review! Maybe you can help me. My son is almost 4. I do not understand the difference in the Getting Ready 1 & 2 and the Genesis Curriculum First Step, Big Step, Giant Step. I'm not sure what all I need to buy because I see a few other types of workbooks offered. (Printables, handwriting, girl book, boy book) I want it to be completely offline or at least 90% offline. I was going to start with the Big Step as he is ahead of the preschool work. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks!
@EducationalRoots
@EducationalRoots 5 жыл бұрын
Rhonda L Yes, I can help. GR1 and First Step are almost exactly the same. Both are learning the letters. The Big Step book is like the Primer in GR1, except it adds Math and handwringing as well, and spreads it out over a year. GR2 and Giant Leap are the same reading, but the order of the reading is different. In Giant Leap the sight word and phonics reading is mixed instead of one after the other. Giant Leap also has handwriting and math. The math is between a kinder and first level. So yes, I would go with Big Step.

Is the genesis curriculum separate from Easy Peasy? I skipped GR1 since my 4 year old already knows his alphabet and I started him on McGuffey Primer and bought the learn to read with EP. For kindergarten would I have to buy the genesis curriculum and Easy Peasy work books? That’s the only thing that I’m confused about.
@EducationalRoots
@EducationalRoots 5 жыл бұрын
Kassandra Forsythe Easy Peasy Learn to read has all the reading lessons in it from GR1 and GR2. You would need to purchase the handwriting book separately and the math assignments are online. Genesis Curriculum First Step is like GR1, Big Step is like the primer portion of GR1 and Giant Leap is like GR2. It contains reading, writing, and math all in one book. You do either or but not both, since they cover the same things.

Eirene Soegijanto Hey! Boy, that’s a lon FB answer. Lol! Basically, we did stop using GC, but it was because I was working, and so my girls ended up using a lot of the online curriculum through my work. I needed them to be more independent so I could work. But then this year, I quit right before school started. My 9 year old actually said she misses GC. We did it for 2 years before last year. Another reason was because of the age difference between my little kids and my middle schooler. My middle schooler was very resistant to working with her little sisters. All that being said, I’m highly considering going back to GC next year, because I’ll have 2 in high school doing their own thing, and my little kids will be in 3rd and 5th, which are really good ages for GC. But. I know we will continue to use IEW for LA, because I really love it. As far as the readers, I also have no issues with those. That’s a long story short.

Thank you for this review! This is our first year homeschooling 🥰 My daughter did K for as long as it lasted... And, they did missed a good chunk of K learning. I was recommended this curriculum when I was looking for a LA being a new homeschooler I was very overwhelmed...it didn’t looked all that clear searching the website and I decided to go with something that was easier to buy... How much do I regret that..it placed my daughter in the wrong level and it has been so stressful and overwhelming...seeing her disengage and not in the lessons and me trying to add and add with workbooks or extra reading or... I can’t afford tu purchase their next level... or any other new LA curriculum... This curriculum is so inexpensive, I will spend the few extra$ if it’s totally worth it, like is it comprehensive and enough? I will get both the LA and the Reading. I just can’t afford the stress and ALL the extra time we spend trying to make this other curriculum level up to where my daughter is, she’s a solid 1st grader. She knows all her sight words, both written and dictated, knows all the letter sounds, and the extra sounds. And, even if this was to be a little more I would take it slower. I rather work with advanced and slow it down then with lower and try to get it to speed! We end up not having time for art and other fun stuff... I know this was long! Thank you 🙏 💗

Would you think using the GC Matthew with the Language Arts from easy peasy be too much work?
@EducationalRoots

Michelle Channell No, it would not be too much. I actually am doing a video today on Acts, but I am using GC and Mind for Math AND Easy Peasy math and LA for my 1st grader. My 7th grader is using EP step 1 math and also doing another LA. GC is really not time consuming.

Joy Garrison Hey! I would wait to start the main Genesis Curriculum until he’s in 3rd grade. If he’s doing Giant Leap, that’s all you need for Language Arts and Math. When he’s done with Giant Leap you can move into Easy Peasy first grade language arts and math.
