Here's an easy way to get the lid off of a 5 gallon bucket. Lopping shears and a lid removal tool.

The easiest way I have found to open a bucket, is for someone else to do it. Clear, concise video- thanks for sharing :)

LOL! I just now took my circular saw to a lid on a 5 gallon orange HD Homer bucket. I am building a padded seat to go on top of the bucket as a portable chair when I do home improvement projects. I sat on the bucket with the lid on it with my full weight to test it out, and it forced the lid down, and it sort of "locked on", and I couldn't pry it off! I guess neither your or my lid will be reusable. :)
