FYI - this mod should be the same process on ALL Arcade1Up cabinets as they use the same sized buttons on every cab that has been released. There's LOTs of colored Sanwa button options. Here's a set of 6 buttons that are $15 at Amazon: amzn.to/3evxOpe (Affiliate link) If you upgrade your cab, let me know what buttons you use!

I CAN'T BELIEVE that 1up manages to 'get away' with cheaping out on the BUTTONS & SWITCHES? Don't these units retail for like $500, and 1up can't even bump their cost by a couple bucks (cents?) on each unit, and install proper 'arcade quality' buttons/switches instead of sourcing generic 'no name' components? It just seems odd to cut costs on the components that users are interacting with EVERY TIME they play, and makes me wonder WHERE ELSE they've cut corners? Like, what are the chances they're also using the CHEAPEST POWER SUPPLIES they can find, and these units will just start failing or catching fire in a couple years?

Great video. I started swapping Sanwa buttons into all our fighting cabs about 2 years ago. I felt there was a big difference. I am modding a Marvel Super heroes countercade, so this video helped me see how remove the buttons in one piece. I appreciate seeing how it's done. Some of the wires really did not want to come off the switches. I try always take things apart intact when possible so it can be potentially reused by me or someone else later. Part of me want to just cut the wires and be done with it as I couldn't get a couple to separate without some major effort. I eventually got it so I can replace all this hardware with better options.

I'll be using Happ buttons on mine, but I'm glad people are finding simple solutions for modding these control panels that anyone can do. It really takes the stress, and worry away from doing these projects. They're well worth doing even if you're someone who's never worked on something like this before, and are a little intimidated by the thought of trying.

Yeah, I gutted a full size Arcade cabinet for conversion into a MAME system, but made CERTAIN to keep the AUTHENTIC ARCADE JOYSTICKS (and luckily the cab was a 2player/6button each config). And I'm HAPPY I did, because even the most expensive 'arcade quality' joysticks I've bought from 'arcade component' stores ALL just feel FLIMSY compared to the hardware used in the 'commercial quality' cabinet! I'm actually AMAZED that people are willing to spend $500+ on these units, and 1up can't even provide 'quality' sticks/buttons/switches?!?!? MAME SFII CE!: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/epZyedepmJnPdqc.html Unfortunately I ALSO quickly realized that I don't have kids or enough interested friends to actually PLAY the thing on a regular basis, so it's more of a decoration for the home office now ;)

Has anyone ever done a mod/video on how to rewire a bypass switch to remap the "reverse" button on the 1ups that had a basically unplayable Defender game? I have a 1st gen Rampage that has the reverse button way over on another player's button panel, and from what I understand it's the same issue with every 1up that has Defender in its game list. I would think a bypass switch could be installed either on the console or on the back of the machine, that when switched on would essentially divert input from the incorrect button to the correct one, so that you could actually play defender. Just a thought.

@@KongsRUs It's the only fighting game Cabinet I bought. They attribute that solely to the controls they are fooling themselves. It has 3 games and none of them were extremely big pulls like SF2 MVC MVC2 MK etc. Alot of "Casuals" buy Sanwa Sticks and Buttons fight sticks for Fighting games. Some prefer controllers however.

Now you want to upgrade the buttons I believe that cause arcade 1 up is no where being as great as the original arcade machines

yes, this isn't meant to be an exact replica of a real arcade machine, but a home version for casual folks. Hope most people consider upgrading their buttons for a better experience.

@@KongsRUs well tell that to the CEO of arcade 1 up who had a interview with Ganestop who said everything is going to be the same as the arcade machines saying their are the same you played them in the arcade the buttons are just like the ones you played in the arcade then says the original arcade machines were 300 pounds their $3000 just makes me laugh cause not every arcade machine costed $3000 not every one has the same weight that interview just made me want to buy arcade 1 ups really bad it was before they were released in stores go watch it he really makes the games look better then they look

@@KongsRUs the only thing I think of upgrading that’s worth my money and time is my PC I bought in 2015 graphics card making the PC play at its best if arcade 1 ups were possible to change the graphics make them play a lot better then how they were I probably would do that but my focus on arcade - up is buying the games that failed on consoles not the games that didn’t fail why buy Tekken 7 arcade machine when it doesn’t suck on consoles PS4 xbox one Steam PC it’s so huge it won’t fit in everyone’s house but the point is does the consoles play the same

@@KongsRUs annoyed, aggravated yes. Angry. I can honestly say that I have never been truly been angry about anything in my life. I would NEVER interrupt gamers from enjoying what they do. However when KZfaqrs do "reviews" first the sake of getting views, YOU WILL BE CALLED OUT ON IT. Nothing wrong with modding to your preference but, to try to make theses things out to be more than what they are is WRONG. People watch these and go out and spend their hard earned cash on products being over hyped. And for WHAT? Why are you still here anyway? Don't you have another 4 - 5 more Arcade1up videos to make before the week is up? (I'm aware that it's Friday) It's a free country. By all means continue to be a shill.

I'm also amazed that customers seem 'happy' to accept that 1up is saving a few bucks (cents?) on each $500 system by using cheaper 'generic' buttons/switches. It would seem to make sense to cut corners on components owners likely won't see or touch, and focus on the quality of the controls/display? Or are most owners just 'blissfully' unaware of the deficiencies in the control system compared to 'authentic' arcade hardware? And if they don't care about the quality of items you DO interreact with, then what are the chances they didn't also cut costs on things you DON'T see, like power supplies, capacitors, etc?
