wow. so glad a lot of you liked this video. I will say many of you are correct about my shop practices. i get too confident around my equipment and wasn't showing good safety form. a couple years back i actually had an accident on a planer and was actually using a push stick but a fluke accident caused me to lose the ends of two fingers. not long after i blew out some tendons in my wrist. that lead to the closing of my wood shop. it's now my art studio. you can see that stuff on Instagram (White_Beard_Painter). thanks you for all the responses and so sorry for not getting back on the sawdust requests.

Wish you were closer. I make firelogs out of recycled paper that I give to people who can't afford wood. Here in North Texas we don't have too long of a cold winter but what I make I give away.

Grand Idea John. Got more sawdust than anything else anymore. but lumber is so expensive to buy from any distributor. The little one man saw mills are making a killing alright, but they have such overhead, unless its a family business. Men are wanting over a hundred fifty a day to timber for them. Lots of money, but gracious...!! what a dangerous job also. Keep up the good work My Friend.

Will the wax/sawdust bricks leave a wax residue in the fireplace?
@rapunzeleh5465 жыл бұрын
i like the idea because i have lots of wax from candles i've melted down and i'm making deck railings out of the old deck's joists so i have TONS of sawdust (literally generate a 50 gallon drum in two days) but this fancypants woodstove i bought with the catastrophic converter doesn't like wax, plastic or paint in it. might use them in my double barrel woodstove in my shop though. now that i'm retired, looking for little sources of income, so maybe i'll make these and sell them at the local markets. even if i can get a few bucks for a dozen, it's little effort, and free materials. maybe put some fancy 'stank' in it like pine tree or cinnamon.

Use an old crockpot. Melt the wax add the fiber then put in your form. You can use cardboard egg cartons also for individual nuggets. Need wax? Put the word out to your local Boy Scouts. Give them fire starters in trade for the wax.

Can you use sawdust from green lumber or does it have to be dry kilned?
@JohnPNeal2 жыл бұрын
when i had my wood shop going i used sawdust from cut red oak logs, pallet oak boards, and pine finished boards. if you use anything that is too green it would either crack and pop due to the moisture and sap content and it might even snuff out. i would let the sawdust dry a few days before mixing it in

Can I substitute the wax with soluble cooking fat?
@clickhere53248 жыл бұрын
+D Nabbe That's probably going to smell like whatever you cooked with the oil. My friend had his car modified to run on vegetable oil from restaurants. The exhaust smelled like french fries .
@deannabbe18 жыл бұрын
the difference would also be, wax doesn't actually burn 100% it melts and runs. where as fat is mildly flamable so you won't have any residual leftovers, which is very important especially if you're using public camp grounds etc..

Does it fill the bottom of your stove with melted wax after you burn lots of them?
@JohnPNeal Жыл бұрын
no, not at all the wax burns away with the wood just like a candle burns away. there may be concern with using them as a house fireplace starter because i suppose the smoke could possible adhere to the flue. but for camping or any other outdoor use they are fantastic. i actually don't have a problem using them in the house. a small chunk will get a fire going quick.

@wayneodom75623 жыл бұрын
I’ve always used paper egg cartons as a mold and container. Each cup burns 10 to 12 minutes. I had never thought about doing it your way. Bigger chunks with longer burn times might be nice.

If you’re tired of having those fingers attached to your hand, just keep doing what you’re doing with that bench saw. Have a look at Jaimie Perkins left hand on the Perkins Brothers YT site after his run in with his planer. Better yet sell that bench saw or learn how to put a tourniquet on one handed while you’re bleeding out. Sorry to be so savage but mate, you’re an accident waiting to happen.

@@shaneblah3891 I question myself also regarding the use of wax in a wood stove, but as a fire starter it's not much wax and any deposits will probably be burnt and cremated by the fire but I would ask the question to a specialist or someone who sells stoves and fireplaces to get more feedback on the subject.
