How to Use Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color (Black)
Hello! This is a quick tutorial on how to use Tamiya panel line. I'm using the black color on the Yamato Starblazers 2199 (1/1000) scale spaceship. Below is everything you need to get started! I highly recommend practicing and using Tamiya's panel line accent colors, regardless of your skill ability. This is a fantastic way to greatly take your Gunpla (or other plastic model) building to the next level!
Equipment:
- Tamiya panel line
- Enamel paint thinner (+ a little cup)
*THIS IS A MUST HAVE! DO NOT GET THE ACCENT COLOR WITHOUT GETTING AN ENAMEL PAINT THINNER*
- Cotton swabs
- paper towels
"Tamiya Panel Line enamel paints are ideal for highlighting panel lines and other details to give your model a more realistic depth. The paint has been pre-diluted into the ideal viscosity and can be easily applied into crevasses such as panel lines with the brush on the bottle cap. Once dried, any excess may be cleaned up by using enamel thinner. (Bottle contains 40ml)"

Thank you for this. I love how clearly you describe exactly what you are doing. I was failing at this and you are the first person to stress just how lightly you need to apply the clean up cue tip so you don't erase all your work. I was pressing way to hard and literally nobody mentioned that part. Seems obvious now lol Thanks!

A little tip for all the warbird and what ever builders here - if you wipe it in the other direction, like... backwards (or downwards), the tiny streaks coming from the wash will make a rather realistic look of dirt that has built up in the gap and then was pushed out by the air to the back (or down by gravity). At least in my opinion.

I had 2 versions of the accent color (gray and dark gray because everytime I went to my local Hobbytown, they were always out of black) for over a year and I never knew how to use them! You are a life saver cause I thought about using it on a A10 Warthog and didn't want to ruin it by mistake.

About to use Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color for first time. I couldn't find any X-20 thinner locally. So I bought a small 4 dollar bottle of Testors enamel thinner. I wasn't sure, and neither were the guys in the shop. I was very happy to see that I bought the same thinner that you used. Thanks for the video!

Wow! Great tutorial, I can't seem to get my hands on the X-20 Tamiya thinner for enamels, I'm glad to see this video. I will go get Testors enamel thinner I am kind of a noob when it comes to painting on plastics. Have only ever painted on paper with poster colors and water colors. I hope this workflow works for me: Tamiya Primer (Grey) (Optional) >> Tamiya Acrylics (Gloss Finish X Series) + X20A Thinner with 10% Flow improver from windsor and newton >> Water Decals >> TS-13 Gloss Coat >> Tamiya Enamel Lining >> Clean with Tamiya X20/Testors Enamel thinner >> Tamiya Weathering Kit >> TS-13 Gloss Coat. I just hope that the water decals or the base acrylic coats are not washed off by the enamel thinner used to clean the panel lines.
