The Easylonger ES960 Powerbank is marketed as a solution to powering CPAP mahcines during power outages and whilst off-grid. But does it really pack the punch? Well, not really no, unless you’re looking for an ordinary powerbank. After cycling the unit for over a month I discovered a couple of major flaws. And based on what I have uncovered, I can’t recommend this unit, not at its current state.
I have emailed Easylonger re the flaws. I really do hope Easylonger can update and manufacture a new powerbank to replace the ES960. This powerbank has potential - make no mistake. It’s now up to Easylonger to realise that potential.

Beautiful, Detailed,Truthful & Informative Review. Thank you so much. I was looking @ this unit & the Ecoflow River 2. I ended up getting the Ecoflow River 2 for $175. Paying so much less & getting so much more Capability plus a 5 year warranty from a very established company. It also has Lifepo4 batteries 🔋. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁. New Subscriber here 🙋‍♂️.

There's a good reason for marking it as under 300Wh. Airplane use. While regular power banks of this size are not allowed (under 100Wh or less), the limit for say wheelchair batteries is 300Wh. I don't kmow what the limit is for power packs WITH a CPAP machine. But if it's 300Wh and they're over… Then for the battery indicator. It's actually a volt meter. And looks like it's probably too crude. But because battery indicators are volt meters, they are inherently inaccurate. Let a lead acid battery sit for a while after it quit on you, and it might work for a while again. Also, this wasn't manufactured by the brand that sent it to you. It's just a vanity branding (I think it's a different term, forget what it is). They can ask the manufacturer for changes, but how fast that can happen depends how many thousand units they bought.
@TechmanSolar
@TechmanSolar Жыл бұрын
Hey Ann, thanks for your comments, especially re the airline regulation. And yes, volt meters are not the most accurate of inventions. Not that the meters themselves are inaccurate per se, but that estimating remaining capacity based on cell voltage is tedious and a guessing game.

Very detailed review but as a long term user owner I feel you've put more emphasis and weighting on it's minor flaws compared with it's key functions. I've been using this unit for several years now for motorcycle camping, power cuts etc. Over that time it has performed the task I bought it for (Off grid CPAP) without fault and I've yet to see or try another unit that I would choose instead. It does have some minor flaws and things that could be better but I've yet to see a better option on the market. I use it mainly to power my CPAP via the DC out port with the appropriate DC-DC cable and at the same time to charge phones, cameras, Cardo etc - and as a lantern/torch. I charge it via folding solar panels, direct from the motorbike via a hardwired 60W PD USB C and also via the supplied mains adaptor and a 60W mains PD charger. Over about 3 years it has proved 100% reliable despite loads of abuse and rough handling. As noted in your review the LCD display is not particularly accurate but in use you quickly learn how long it lasts. Basically once you see 2 bars it definitely needs a charge soon. For moto camping with CPAP your priorities are: 1) Light weight and compact enough to be able to carry along with the CPAP device. 2) The battery capacity to last 3-5 nights CPAP use without charging. 3) And this impacts both 1 and 2 above - A built in DC/DC 12V to 24V converter as opposed to an inbuilt mains inverter - this is absolutely essential as all you then need is the correct cable to connect the Battery directly to the CPAP. This allows you to leave behind the heavy and bulky AC/DC mains power pack for the CPAP plus the bulky inverter to convert the 12V DC to AC saving both weight, bulk and efficiency. These are marketed under several different brand names but are all essentially the same unit, some with CPAP specific cables and some not. Powering CPAP devices via the DC out port as opposed to the 12V cigarette lighter socket and an external inverter is more efficient and gives you longer usage time. Camping with a CPAP and charging phones etc it will typically last 3 -5 days without a charge. I know of few other devices that can do the same job either as cheaply, reliably or in such a compact package. As such I'd highly recommend it where endurance, reliability and size/weight, off grid charging options are important - The only other unit I'd consider is the slightly smaller 72,000 mAh version which is smaller and half the weight for still 2/3 of the capacity. It's not such good value for money though and uses Lithium Ion chemistry instead of Lithium Phosphate, so therefore has a lower cycle life. PS: Shop around, I bought mine for £160 new in the UK. For car/bike charging use a 12V cigarette lighter USB C PD 60W laptop charger from Amazon or eBay. Or any quality 60W PD USB C car phone charger for Laptops or OPPO or Realme phones. These options are cheap and charge faster via the USB C input than the supplied 40W mains adaptor does.

Hey, thank you for your detailed usage info. As a portable powerbank for phones, tablets etc I concur this unit works well. I wouldn’t recommend it for CPAP use however. Not because it can’t handle CPAP machines, but the inaccurate SOC indicator can potentially have huge consequences. We rely on the battery indicator on our phones, why should this powerbank be any different? We wouldn’t play the guessing game on a phone or laptop. And we shouldn’t have to on a CPAP powerbank either. Thanks again for sharing your experience 😊

@@TechmanSolar No problem and point noted about the SOC indicator. I must admit I don't pay much attention to it as my priority with off grid CPAP is not to know how far it has run down before re charging, but to always have it as fully charged as possible every day. Given the unpredictability of solar and mains access when camping off-grid, first priority for CPAP users every day is to replace the 40 - 70 Watt hours used the previous night by whatever means possible. The comfort zone is not from knowing how much power you have left but simply always having as many nights use left as is possible in case you can't charge it for a few days. So for me as a CPAP user and keen camper, the priority is capacity and efficiency (inbuilt 24v buck converter) in the most compact and robust form possible. I'm always looking for better solutions, especially regarding capacity versus weight. Obviously a 24v DC output is key as it saves carrying the considerable weight of the CPAP's mains adaptor plus an inverter. What do you recommend instead as a better alternative?
@TechmanSolar
@TechmanSolar 13 күн бұрын
@@iangoaty Thanks mate. I'm glad you've shared your usage case with my audience. It's good to note how you use the unit and overcome the SOC indicator issue. In terms of an alternative power station, there isn't much out there. Bluetti/PowerOak K5 is a good unit but lacks solar charging and has only one USB-A port. Admittedly, its SOC indicator is inaccurate too (I purchased a unit many years ago). As I mentioned in the video, I advise buying a power station with a built-in AC inverter. Added benefits are the inverter, better solar charging parameters and a much more reliable SOC indicator.

What model do you recommend for CPAP Dreamstation 2
@TechmanSolar
@TechmanSolar Жыл бұрын
Hey Bernard. I haven’t yet found a powerbank designed specifically for CPAP machines that works flawlessly. They all have some sort of issue that would, in my opinion, render it unsuitable for CPAP use. I would recommend using a reliable power station (Jackery or any other reputable brand) and either plug in the CPAP machine into the AC inverter or use the 12v car output if your Dreamstation 2 can be powered via a 12v car port. Hope this helps!

What’s your thoughts on the 40,000 amp TechSmarter unit
@TechmanSolar
@TechmanSolar 7 ай бұрын
The concept looks good. 100W bi-directional USB-C is impressive and something I’ve been asking manufacturers to add into their power stations. However, without full hands-on use I can’t vouch on its performance or quality. I’d be happy to test and post my review on the channel if TechSmarter would send me a unit.

As a layman, I don't want to go into technical aspects, my question is a different one: At the beginning, transport damage and moisture were mentioned and later you can see dirt around the connections. Could it be that this is the cause? And in the comments there is talk of the voltage during charging being too low, and right, what is missing is a trial with the AC charger. I may be wrong, but I got the impression that something had to be badmouthed. Otherwise, a clear case of complaint, send it back and test the replacement device.
@TechmanSolar
@TechmanSolar 3 ай бұрын
Hey there. The dirt around the connections does not affect the performance of the unit. As for the AC charger, that works as expected (I mentioned the wall charging aspect in my review too, and the 20V charger). The issue with the car charging is that it is advertised to charge with as little as 10v from a vehicle. I demonstrate that this is not the case. I reported this finding to Easylonger who acknowledged it was a fault and that they’d fix this issue, something that hasn’t happened yet (to the best of my knowledge). I was sent the unit to evaluate. I reported all my findings to Easylonger. They should fix them and send me an updated unit for the benefit of viewers, but they haven’t yet replied to my email. It’s important that I warn potential buyers before they purchase this unit, especially if you’re wanting to use it to power a CPAP machine. The SOC/display issue itself can be disastrous for someone wanting to use this for health reasons.

you need to get the charging voltage over 14 volts probably. A lot of my power banks, both DIY and prebought work in one of two ways. either they take anything put into them over 11v, or they are smart similar to car fm transmitters and only turn on when they get full alternator voltage to "wake" the charging protocol.
@TechmanSolar
@TechmanSolar 4 ай бұрын
In principle, your theory is correct. However, that’s not how Easylonger advertise the car charging option. Secondly, the vast majority of power stations can charge from pretty much 11v. There would be a boost converter in the unit to boost the input voltage to the battery configuration. I raised this issue with Easylonger at which point they acknowledged it was a “technical issue” which they were planning to fix. Don’t think they fixed it at all. They no longer reply to my emails.

Hey, thanks for your comments. I think the issue is beyond my device. Multiple users report similar issues with their units. Perhaps the bigger issue here is the lack of communication from Easylonger. I’ve emailed them a detailed report and a link to this video. I’m yet to hear back from them. If you’re able to, I would recommend a direct DC-DC discharge test at 60W. See if the SOC indicator behaves any differently.
