@@peacegiver1000 👍 KFC announced on July 16, 2020 it would test chicken nuggets made with 3D bioprinting technology in Russia this fall. The chain partnered with 3D Bioprinting Solutions to create a chicken nugget that will mimic the taste and appearance of its original nuggets at a fraction of the environmental cost. Yusef Khesuani, cofounder and managing partner at 3D Bioprinting Solutions, said he hoped the KFC partnership would help accelerate the rise of cell-based meats and make them more widely accessible. Although it's not currently widely used in food, lab-grown meat is a heavily researched product that many investors hope will be on the market soon. Memphis Meats, a cell-based meat startup, raised $161 million in its latest funding round, and major investors include CPT Capital, a venture fund that has also backed Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat. Also on July 16, KFC announced it would sell Beyond Fried Chicken at over 50 California restaurants for a limited time after successful tests in Nashville, Atlanta, and Charlotte. So many unanswered questions! Is it as nutritious as real meat? How much energy is consumed to produce this? Has there been any long term human tests to assess the long term impact of consuming this? Will they produce real pieces of meat like wings, breast or thighs or is it always going to be some nugget? As long as these questions are unanswered, this will only be the next trendy fad for young people.

Seriously? They're clones from chicken cells. By definition, its structure and composition is identical to chicken meat. Also, cell cultures are pretty much more energy efficient than animal farming per equal output (by a long shot). That's kinda like asking if solar cells are really more environmentally friendly than 'clean coal.' And if you have to ask about whether this method can create different parts of the chicken, you obviously don't know what cloning is. And I'm not talking about the cloning you see in sci-fi.

@@raffiart5121 I don't think he thinks hes something important hes just giving you answers (although not in the nicest way). To sum it up yes its as nutritious as all they are doing is "growing" the meat. It would also consume less energy as there is no need for machines, food, water, or large amounts of land. The long term effects on humans is still unknown, but just assume the best. About the real pieces of meat like wings, etc It is possible it will just take much longer for us to learn how to do it efficiently, so for the time being expect most of it to be hamburgers, chicken nuggets etc. Hopes this sums it up a little bit better also sorry for the grammar/ spelling.

@@gibbyo3408 I would have expected the video to answer these questions based on some peer reviewed scientific work. Anyone can claim anything online. You claim that these nuggets are as nutritious as real meat. They probably contain the same amount of protein but what about other vitamins and minerals? In the last few decades, the ubiquitous use of “modern” agricultural practices have resulted in significant mineral deficiencies. The vegetables we consume have far less minerals than what our grandparents used to consume. I am not an expert in this field and wouldn’t want to talk about something I am not really familiar with but wouldn’t trust some online warriors “expert” opinion over what I eat.

@@simplepixel5617 lack of several essential amino acids is one. also vitamin B12, since some of them only occurs after fermentation process inside animal's guts, especially ruminants for the B12. Then the agar compound to grow it is another because some agar has tendency to block the growth of some bacteria like in our guts such as e. coli and lactobacillus casei to "protect" the cultured meat. disproportionate microbes in your guts can cause autism. That's why there's a link of autism to both excessive antibiotics usage and cleaning products (because your everyday soap and detergent have inherent anti-bacteria effect). Since some essential amino acids are secreted only with fermentation process in their guts. So does vitamin B12, especially in ruminants. Lack of nutrients will be the problem with those lab meat and also the safety on the growing agar compound. It could impact microbes in your guts since some kind of agars have tendency to block some bacteria to grow in the dish. such as good bacteria like e coli and lactobacillus casei. Unhealthy guts bacteria proportion can cause autism.

it's not suitable for space exploration either because: 1. you need heavy duty energy intensive cryogenic tank just to store the cells before growing it. 2. Nutrients and its storage, you need that to grow it. 3. Biomaterials, scaffolds, hydrogels, polymers etc. to make the grow dish. 4. gene editing materials and expertise for each batch. People who love animals and cultures that respect them are going to be thrilled with this. But the real reason everybody's going to get on board, it will be cheaper and cleaner than the current forms of meat production over time. Safety standards and laboratories are much better than any meat processing facility could ever be. And having the animal meat ready in one location saves time and money.

The majority of these cell meat companies are were founded by Vegans and people who are ethically comcern about animal welfare. I'm waiting for the long term effect on human. I suspect lack of essential amino acids is one. Since some of it requires fermentation process inside the chicken guts itself. B12 is also a problem, since it requires the fermentation process to be made. One thing they can do to fix that is by adding synthetic B12 derived from cyanides. Another one is the agar compounds to grow the culture. Some of it can disrupt good guts bacteria in human. It's an issue since, lack of microbes inside our guts will lead to autism.

Think about how much safer and non- polluting this is. A chicken farm introduces antibiotics into the meat and arsenic is used to irritate the chickens' throats to make them feed. When you move a chicken coup, you leave poison in the soil. The chicken waste is filled with bacteria and viruses and has to be stored to prevent runoff. It is converted to fertilizer. The only question is taste.

Regulatory authorities and industry bodies will help ensure standards but at the end of the day, you'll have to rely on the reputation of the company. Look up Just's history and Josh Tetrick's lack of ethics and I'd be hesitant about where he draws his ethical lines. That being said, other companies in this space are going above and beyond governmental minimums to ensure aseptic GMP facilities are producing their products. The people who start companies in this space are usually idealists and will hold themselves to higher standards.

@jhunt5578
@jhunt5578 3 жыл бұрын
Actually its not GMO. Its a cell line taken from a living chicken and its then proliferated in a bio-reactor using specialised growth medium and stem cells. Its quite literally the cells and genes of a living animal, there's no gene editing whatsoever. Instead of the cells growing meat inside a chickens body, those exact cells are taken out and grown into meat inside a bio-reactor like yeast grows bread or beer inside a distillery.
