Eat to Live: Wartime Recipes is a six-part documentary series that explores the experience of food consumption during the Japanese Occupation.
Episode 1 provides an introduction to the onset of the Japan Occupation and the ration system that was implemented, and delves into the memories of how the depleting supply of rice was replaced by substitutes such as tapioca and ragi flour. It features interviews with Associate Professor Vineeta Sinha from the Department of Sociology at the National University of Singapore and individuals who lived through the occupation including Valerie Zehnder, Lee Kip Lee and Samuel Dhoraisingam.

I remember my father and grandmother telling us stories too. If we were fussy about food or anything, they would remind us of how they had to go with so little or without a lot of basic necessities during the wartime.
