My mom had a fantastic chayote harvest this year, so she gave me some of her large chayote! She usually gets seeds from her friends and this year, all her chayote had thorns in them.
Here's the stir fry recipe: healthynibblesandbits.com/chi...

Where did you get your dried shrimp? I've been looking for some because I LOVE them in prepackaged ramen and would eat them like chips if I could get a bag of them

I find a lot of Asian recipes. I want to try have these little shrimps in them I am not a huge seafood fan( texture thing) . Is there a substitute you would recommend? Like, perhaps, maybe a paste ??( I don’t know if that’s a thing) Would the recipe taste OK without shrimp?

I'm Dominican American. We used to grow these in the backyard not this year, though. I was still fun watching dad grow them

We eat this in South India too! We call it chow chow and we make a dish called kootu with it. It is a gravy made with coconut and spices and cooked lentils and chow chow, finished with a tempering of mustard seeds and coconut oil.

I lived in Mexico once and learned about it there. I had no idea Asians knew about it until i returned to Canada. I am interested in growing it, show us a video about that!!!

I'm Southeast Asian and yes we Asians love this veggie! In my country we called it "labu siam" (Siamese squash). It's often being cut into matchstick shapes, then stir fried with garlic, Thai chili, and sweet soy sauce. But also some of us just simply boiled it and ate it just like that because it tastes good already, sweet and very watery and refreshing.

We usually don't add water to it at home coz it release liquid during cooking. We also add it to chicken soup, as substitute for unripe papaya.

Here in Brazil, I live with my grandma and, in the midst of the pandemic, she found herself growing chayote ("chuchu", in portuguese) in our backyard. And she cultivated so many that EVERY dish had chayote. Good times, tho.
