In this video, I compare the pros and cons of ebikes and electric scooters to help you make an informed decision. Join me as I break down the key factors to consider!
Portability: Electric scooters are a breeze when it comes to portability. They are lightweight and foldable, making them perfect for carrying up a few stairs or fitting in the trunk of your car. On the other hand, ebikes tend to be bulkier and heavier, making them a bit more challenging to carry around, especially if you live in an apartment without an elevator.
Safety: When it comes to safety, ebikes have the upper hand. With larger tire diameters ranging from 14 to 27.5 inches, they offer better stability and smoother rides over bumps, potholes, and curbs. Electric scooters, with tire diameters of 8 to 11 inches, may not handle rough terrain as well.
Fitness: If you're looking to get some exercise while commuting, an ebike is the way to go. Even with minimal pedaling effort, you'll still get some cardio benefits. Electric scooters, on the other hand, don't provide much of a workout since they rely solely on electric power.
Stability and Balance: Ebikes have the advantage of providing additional points of contact, including your hands, feet, and butt. These extra points contribute to improved stability and balance, making them a great option if you struggle with these aspects.
Storage and Cost: Electric scooters are more compact and may have limited storage options, whereas ebikes offer more space for carrying items, making them suitable for grocery shopping or transporting larger loads. Additionally, electric scooters are generally more affordable, with decent options available for less than a thousand dollars, while ebikes tend to be pricier.
I'll also touch on the preferences of riding an ebike or electric scooter. While ebikes are ideal for practical commuting and accomplishing tasks, electric scooters provide a fun and thrilling riding experience. Ultimately, your decision should be based on your specific needs and preferences.
Watch the video to get all the details and share your thoughts in the comments below. Let me know what other factors influenced your choice between an ebike and an electric scooter!

Range - Ebike. Some electric scooters have pretty good range like the Emove Cruiser, but the thing with escooters is what you get is what you get for range. With Ebikes you can extend the range considerably with some pedaling. I have a 52 volt 23 Ah battery on my scooter, and while it gets very good range I still have to think about it. On my ebike I have dual 48 volt 13 Ah batteries for a total of 26 Ah, so for all intents and purposes thats unlimited range as sore butt syndrome will kick in LONG before I get anywhere near the range limit. Also, many escooters can be equipped with a saddle. I have one on mine and this gives me the option to ride sitting or standing, and I think I do about 50/50. Its really nice on long rides since you can keep switching off from sitting to standing. With ebikes it's just sitting, so you're much more likely to experience sore butt syndrome on longer rides. Also adding a saddle lowers your center of gravity and gives you that 5th point of contact, so it does increase stability by a lot (still not as good as an Ebike though). It does throw any hope of looking cool out the window as soon as you install a saddle on it though :). At 60 I could care less about looking cool, but that might be a factor for younger riders.

Awesome @AKCobra1120 comment :) Sore butt syndrome is a thing for sure....and I agree, I don't think the seat on the scooter is going to be a hit with the younger generations lol :) :) Stay cool 😎

@@TimsElectric Nope, it won't lol! In fact I saw a video last year from a guy that had one installed and took it off because his GF said it wasn't a good look. I guess it's freeing to be an old fart and not care about such things :) Younger riders would LOVE my ebike though, it looks like The Fonz motorcycle. Not that they'll even know who that is... lol)

Mobility can be another reason that guides your choice. Particularly knee mobility when it comes to peddling. My parter and I recently purchased an e-bike and it was the first time I’d been back on a bike since I injured my knee and had surgery. The top of the upstroke while peddling is painful for me. We’re doing a bit more research into finding the right size bike for me but a scooter may be a better alternative because there is no peddling at all.

During COVID my wife and I both bought performance scooters to offset the crazy gas prices. We loved it so much that we use them for everything. We only use our car for the rare long distance trip, or the really big shopping trips. Aside from being fun as anything, it saves a ton of money. No second car payment, no gas, even the insurance is cheaper since we qualify for recreational use insurance due to the fact that we almost never use the car. It's great. I see micro-mobility as the future for many reasons.

@@TimsElectric The Cruiser s is perfect for long rides . The sine wave controller is nice and smooth . I let everyone try it out as it is a gentle throttle curve and a safe scooter . That being said I am looking at dual motor scooters like Mantis King gt and a few others with same power . Not in a rush so I am enjoying the search . The Cruiser s will be a good take a friend for a scoot without too much power .

Almost 2 years ago I purchased a White Lectric Step Thru (1.0 model) folding ebike with a $600 USD Stimulus payment and $400 USD that I had in a bank account, I take it right into my local Fred Meyer supermarket for grocery shopping and use my ebike just like a shopping cart. I have pannier bags on the side,a trunk bag on top and a front basket for most of my needed groceries. It's a 30 minute 6.4 mile round trip from my owner occupied home. As a 65 year old retired Senior heart patient I need it for doctor recommended daily healthy aerobic exercise for my heart. I have another ebike with a heavily modified Veltop upright Classic 3 model (Windshield and Cover) for riding in rainy weather where I live. The fiberglass rods often broke on the Veltop cover so I replaced them with 2 stainless steel whip antennas cut to the right length. That solved the breaking rods problem of the Veltop attachment. I had to heavily modify the mounting of it so that it would fit on a RadRover ebike,. Then I still got wet so I mounted a custom cut lower lexan panel and then two other cut lexan panels on the sides of the front wheels top tubes with zip ties. Once I did all that I could ride in even heavy rain without wearing any rain clothes and along with mud guards on my wheels my ebike and I didn't get wet. I could use an Escooter for going to my doctors office because it would be impractical to take my ebike there. I am looking at various Escooters now. Currently I take a public transit bus to see my doctor. I got rid of my car 11 years ago because I didn't drive very much and it saved me a lot of monthly expenses. I first got into riding ebikes 11 years ago.

After riding electric scooter for 2.5 years, I decided to try an electric bike as well, because scooter has not enough electricity to finish shopping in one time. The electric bike battery can be changed if it is not enough electricity to finish shopping in one day and driving bike in the city more comfortable and safer. Need only decide 20" or 26" wheels better for the city like Boston, Massachusetts.

I hardly used my NIU kqi3 Max, so I ended up selling it. I'm currently the owner of 2 ebikes, down from 4 (Qualisports Dolphin & RadMission SOLD, Fiido L3 & RipRacer currently). I like escooters, but my feet, unfortunately, can't STAND them (pun intended). I've owned a few other electric scooters (IMax S1 Plus before they were popular a few years back, Ninebot ES Max from their campaign, ETwow GT Sport - the ULTIMATE COMMUTER), and I do miss the small size for multimodal commuting. Unfortunately I just can't ride em.

Awesome @thetds101 that you've found that ebikes work for you and your feet. Love the GT Sport for quick runs....is it the suspension or lack there of that makes it uncomfortable for you to ride on a scooter?

@@TimsElectric it was the horrible NYC streets, the lack of adequate suspension, my bad feet due to working on NYC train tracks all day, combined with the flaw I had where the rear fender kept popping off (until I purchased the newer replacement fender to alleviate that concern). I loved my GT Sport. The kqi3 Max,... I hated. The range wasn't what it should be, and the GT Sport climbed the bridge by my house wayyyyy better. The GT Sport truly is the KING of compact, ultra portable commuters.

Electric scooter. It is small in size overall, quick and can handle weather like any other transportation along with other weather conditions. But since the wheels are small, it becomes difficult to operate on damaged sidewalks and roadways. I ride one to work everyday and I fell numerous times. Concerned for any speed bumps, cracks, etc in the path ahead of me because it only takes a small mistake to be made so I fall off the scooter like earlier. And for most part, if you’re weighting the limit weight it can handle you are getting nowhere. If you’re traveling miles then probably a bike best fits your needs, it did for me when I used to have one. Ima get a bike anyways Im tired of the scooter
