I'm a social Leper. I'm a Communist trying to survive in England the home of Empire and almost engulfed by idiocy and ignorance and a prejudice to my celibacy and refusal also to violence. After three attempts on my life, twice sexually assaulted and numerous death threats I travelled to Belguim last year to seek euthanasia. I live with my dog and an anger which lays within me unabated. It gives me tremendous hope that because of solid people like these two campaigners that common sense can prevail. My endearing vision is to see Russia before I'm gone and I send my deepest regards to all those 'Bolshevics' out there because we seem to be a rare species now dealing with an automated media that discriminates as easy as taking candy. The only beneficiaries to suffering seem to be the rich and ugly who batter my door demanding things I do not possess. I miss my father and mother who survived the second world war to raise me as a honourable man. My saviour is Christ who awaits my arrival. For you dear friends may the days be long and the water bright upon your face every morning. Das Vadanya.

I have always believed in he essential good nature of people while understanding that what people experience can overlay this essence and lead them to act in ways that are selfish and harmful to others. This also relates to free speech in that nothing that is said truly from the heart should be censored even though it may hurt some. The task is not to condemn but to understand why they would feel so strongly that what they had to say was more important than the feelings of others. We are, in a sense, all refugees from our past looking for a better life. Those that are unable to confront their own past want to close the door to those that come knocking lest they be drawn into that awareness and experience the fear of what they may suffer. Fear is the key. Banish that and we can all make the journey.

I think anger as an emotion is not sustainable because it’s not meant to be: The function of anger is as a signal; it tells us “Something isn’t right.” So we must heed the signal and look to identify what it was that sparked the anger, and what, if anything, can be done about it. Anger is quelled by understanding and action. We must heed the signal and, one might say, turn our *attention* to what we want to do, need to do, have to do about it. Anger is a signal. Rage is a passion. Rage sometimes burns and sometimes smolders, and helps to power our struggle against what has enraged us.

Thank you again for these interesting discussions. I would like to understand better why some progressives defend and support regimes such as those in Venezuela which claim to be "socialists" and a government to and for the people when they are not, when they do not allow international monitors to be there for elections, when they silence the opposition, and when they torture and sometimes kill protesters. I am more of the line of thought of socialism than capitalism, but when I see how ideologies are manipulated for the benefit of the few, I lose faith and hope in any of it and can not see myself supporting people like Corbyn, or the Tories, or US politics. Also, another question is how to avoid authoritarian regimes with Socialism. Thank you. E

Something that helps me is recalling nearly all people don't even have that depravity in their nature, and that it only happens because we are subject to a small minority of lunatics. In that sense, it is simple to solve - all we have to do is change who has access to decision making capability. That's it. Regular working people must be given the reins instead of an ownership class. How we get there is the hard part, but it is possible

One cant forget that Atlantic Utopia once existed and that anger was commodified by the supression of languages who once utilized tihe Utopia. I agree with the Lady ftom Turkey. Italian was a forced language used to commodify facism..it worked in the Ribbentrof Pact...rather useful and mysitifying of Nazis. The point of using Arabic language that would commodify a Jerusalem in America would be abounding on two continents if the widespread use of Arabic was less topical in Europe. Unfortunately it is not the converse.

... "faith in humanity" ... I can see how that would motivate a person like Ece. For me I feel our species is aligned with self destruction ... spectacular self destruction. I do have faith that there are solutions, a way through - if you like, but we are too blind to see it. Because of the fundamental way we live life. Change in that sphere is required, without it we continue to decline. Connection; what we hold in our heart; what we place in our minds - these will provide that path, Nothing else will. To overcome the 'forces' Yanis speaks of seems impossible because it is difficult; because we have not chosen to do what is necessary ... because that path seems absurd. We will suffer for making the right choices. But it is required.

I don't know how to say it in a few (and perhaps not even in many) words ... First, for Ms. Temelkuran: our valiant free press has never told us (it's my innocent curiosity) how your native country tells its children about its drive to civilize Eastern Europe for a few good centuries ... Was it in order to teach religious tolerance to the infidels ? Was it to teach them the secrets of haute cuisine (lockum, baklava, saray[gli?], nougat, halva etc.) ? (I can't think of anything else, whence Prince/King Charles III preferred ... Transylvania!) Democracy hasn't told us yet. But I must say I was thrilled to see us represented in this chat by the homeless lady Maria - yes, for some strange reason, we do understand Italian easily - something which did not prevent others from discovering a certain „Moldavian language”. And 35 years of Democracy, plus 45 (or so) years of socialism, plus the Democracy that preceded it have not clarified this to us. Secondly, Professor Varoufakis: what are the academic/curricular standards in the schools for the masses in Democracy, sir ? How far down the list of priorities of the ”genuine Left” lies this detail ? Should I keep the faith and keep asking it (of you!) ? Your Diem newsletter seemed to ignore it too. In any case, I allow myself to tell you why you (in my view, obviously) are privileged: because you can (have the mental ability to) talk back to authorities, when they try to „sell” you/us something; the average people in the street (the overwhelmingly huge majority!) cannot - and this no longer has anything to do with (access to) the means of mass communication! Perhaps it has much to do with the academic standards in the schools for the masses, sir ? (As you know, the valiant free press blames it on pure ”brainwashing”!) Thanks.

Under the global colonial cult lore of sovereignty there are three main grades of servant. Honorable Leader, Sir, and Mister. All three are titles of chattel. That is, natural persons as property of a fictional sovereign. The trinity is Master, Servant, and their union as a single corporate fiction. Monopoly is the manifestation of sovereignty. Is the Israeli Shekel legal tender in Gaza and the WestBank? Are all diplomats paid with Dollars? Do almost all people accept being addressed as the title of a so-called sovereign state banker? Two things make me worry: people like you, fighters for the common good are very vulnerable. When people in power will think you are danger for them you will be attacked and will disappear as they did to Assange. The second thing is what can we do to make your opinion (and mine, as I totally agree with you )matter. People who fight for common good are most of the time ignored. Robert Reich in US always talks about the roots of evil but nothing good is coming out of this. Most of the people are uneducated and last thing in their minds is ethics. They love trump because he embodies everything wrong against common sense, religious rules, any society rules. Plus he offers hot dogs for free at his rallies and tarnish everybody who doesn’t like in the most despicable way. Despite this a big chunk of US population admire him, sent him money and gladly go to his rallies. How can your ideas can appeal to people like this? My point is if you rely on votes it is no chance to get them.

"Your Majesty, please tell Erdoğan ‘enough’ when he pops in for tea" - Ece Temelkuran in her letter to the Queen Elizabeth of GB which was published in the Guardian. This is a person who pleaded to a literal monarch that the Queen of England scolds the democratically elected leader of her own country. Now here she is talking about exile. I am someone who is being pulled towards socialism from time to time but socialists like Yanis always let me down when they give platform to the likes of Ece Temelkuran. Even though we didn’t have a great start with our relationship, we love our Australian sisters and brothers. They are naive but smart, honest, brave, down to earth people. We in Turkiye are freaking tired of all the wars around us for the last couple centuries after far western interventions. All these wars are hindering our well being immensely. We don’t want to divide into tiny states and become the next target. We want to unite with all our sisters and brothers and be strong once again. All these clash of ideologies have nothing to do with our existence at all. On the contrary, the wars are threat to our existence. This madness has to stop! We have more serious problems than colonizing the world. We already have done it. However, our heavenly earth is not the safest place in the cosmos. Most of life on earth is cleansed periodically.
