In a rare break-of-character, I bought a brand-new Echo CS-590 Timberwolf chainsaw. Normally I cheap out on pretty much everything. But I tried that with chainsaws, and it wasn't really working out.
Don't get me wrong, my Harbor Freight Poulan Pro PR4218 served me well, for what it was. And my Farmertec MS361 has been worth the price of entry on education alone. But let's face it. The Poulan is underpowered and the Farmertec is unreliable. Time for an upgrade.
I did a bunch of research and finally selected the Echo CS-590 Timberwolf. It cost triple what either of my other saws did, but based on my research that's still a good value for what you get.
This video covers my first year of ownership, from unboxing and first start through firewood processing and stump cleanup. All-in-all it's been a fantastic saw and is always the one I reach for when something needs cutting (no surprise there, considering its competition). I'm far from an expert, but if you're in the market for a good mid-range chainsaw, I recommend it.
