Gentlemen, I've been trying for months to figure out why an Echo PB255 blower wouldn't start even though it has 90 pounds of compression, spark, and fuel. After finding this video, I learned that it uses the same flywheel and thus the same replacement parts. I followed your video, and the blower lives again! Thank you so much for your efforts! A thousand blessings upon you and your families!

You really do cover everything. I just bought this new looking blower at a junkyard for $20 and I had the exact same problem. Sheared fly wheel. Thanks for the part numbers. Really helps out a diy mechanic. I did the same thing he did for troubleshooting and then when to check the coil and damn the flywheel is free spinning. At this time I thought , gotta see what taryl has to say about this

Great video but I do have one constructive comment. When you are screwing into plastic, ALWAYS start the screws by hand! Apply firm pressure and turn the screw BACKWARDS until you feel the screw drop into the previously cut threads. Then turn it clockwise a couple of turns until you are sure that the threads are fully engaged. Then you can run them down with the impact if you want but tighten them by hand. If you fall to do this, the steel screws can cut new threads which rips out the old threads. Then you have a stripped hole to repair. I spent 30 years repairing cars for a living and 10 years repairing copiers and printers. I’ve dealt with a lot of plastic parts.

Cousin Jaryl gave me tips that will help me repairing my Echo ES210 vacuum/leaf blower that has no spark. I could have use a impact tool with the recoil starter in place, probably damaging it. And then, not putting a rope/cord to deep in the sparkplug hole that could get caught in the intake/exhaust ports. All good stuff. Thanks for all of the great small engine videos, and intertainment. If you break or loose that plastic lock for the blow tube, a couple of well places screws from the outside will hold the tube solidly in place. It aint stock, but it's a cheap and solid fix.

When I was a service tech for echo they had us reinstalling new laminated style flywheels with a different fan hub that had more surface area where it contacts the flywheel. We were told install it with red lock tite and were given no torque spec either. That’s why I think echo is a big joke, this was over 6 years ago when we started replacing thousands of these flywheels and they have just now came up with a correction to the issues. By the way the true issue was either the torque spec they were using from the factory or the lack of thread locker. I have fixed many of these with the original flywheel and fan hub by just putting a dab of red locktite and a good bit of torque on the hub itself. Have one of my own that I have used for years with no fancy parts. Aluminum flywheel is not really needed

lit1023 so I I guess either this method did not work or they decided it was not needed to replace the flywheel with a aluminum one. Either way we were the biggest echo repair facility in the US so you would think they woulda had us doing it the correct way.
@lit1023
@lit1023 4 жыл бұрын
I was just pointing out that the bulletin is 6 years old so I would think this would be the way Echo solves the issue with the flywheel key shearing off that's all, you said you worked for echo over 6 years ago. so the time frame fits.

I did take apart and clean the carbitrator once already and that didn't seem to improve it. I figure I may pull the carbitrator apart once again and double check that fine screen again, perhaps even though it looks clear there might be som "resins " remaining that I can't actually see and an air blast failed to remove. I have the Echo PB-255LN that I purchased on 4-12-2018 and used for light use residential. I have always used ethanol free fuel with the Echo or Amsoil full synthetic two-stroke oils. I am very picky about cleaning/maintaining my equipment and filters on everything I own. I start the blower like it says in the manual, this isn't my first rodeo, I already knew how. I started having starting issues with it towards the end of last fall 2021 and it bogging down and dieing and then taking at least 15 pulls to get it running again, in a struggleing manner. After dieing it would not start right away, I would have to let it sit for at least 15 to 30 minutes before it would struggle to start again, at least 15 pulls. I checked spark plug and it was clean but I replaced it anyways with the same NGK BPM8Y and I still had the problem. I did some online research and checked the spark arrestor but that was clean, I removed it so it would never become a problem in the future. I also checked the exhaust port and that was clean and no scoring on the piston. Took apart the carb to check but that was clean and no dirt/grime. Blower would still not fire-up without at least 15 pulls and then all same problem. I ended up using my electric blower over the winter. In March of this year 2022 I played with it again but same problem so I ordered a gasket/diaphram kit from Cutler's through Amazon. When it arrived I took apart the carb again the original gaskets and diaphram was still in pristine condition with no deteriation but I replaced it anyway. SAME PROBLEM! I then did some more research online and removed the plug for the low idle adjustment screw to play with that but that was of no help. I also removed the spark plug and it gets spark when visually checking, I don't know if it is a strong enough spark though, it does look bright and strong. I was told by a buddy that the coil could be dirty/surface rusty so I took everything apart to look inside and everything inside is imaculently clean. I did the business card gap check on the coil and it has the perfect light drag feel to it, so I didn't bother to even take off the coil yet. I called up the dealer where I bought it at since I have about 6 more months of warranty remaining but they said it would be at least a 4 to 5 week turn around. I try to fix most stuff myself since I'm capable of it and it's a half-hour drive down there for them to mess with it. Amazon has aftermarket coils for half the price as an OEM but they only last a few uses until they poop out is what the reviews have stated. It is not worth me paying about $90 for an OEM coil when the blower cost me $200. I've now come to the point where I'll just have to take it to the dealer for them to replace the coil if that is the problem and wait a month. I don't think they had the flywheel problem with the PB-255LN model and I'm not going to try to chase this problem any further. I'm taking it back to Austin Outdoor Power tomorrow and they can dick with it. I will not be buying another Echo blower again until they quit using crap parts. I'll probably end up converting to battery powered equipment since I'm sick and tired of gas powered problems and the amount of labor time I put into messing with them. I hate the price of what those batteries cost.
