Secondly, he hinted at the Rebels having tons of different types of Mon Cal cruisers, which emphasizes one of their major drawbacks listed in Legends, which is how much of a pain they are for maintenance. The lack of a standardized design would mean everything is custom built, making maintenance more expensive. This means that they can field less of them given equal support structures. Third, they are converted passenger liners, not purpose built warships. Passenger liners do not have the same structural design as warships, which warships are aimed for surviving combat, compartmentalization, etc. while passenger liners are aimed to be economically produced (or in the case of unique, one of a kind luxury liners, to be comfortable).

Exactly. I like this channel a lot, but the bias is unfortunately there sometimes. Sure it's difficult to compare specific types of warships that pretty much do the exact same thing for their respective faction but if we're gonna compare a proper flagship to those mass produced by the other 3 factions then it may as well be: Home One (Rebellion) Resolute (Republic) Invisible Hand (Separatists) Devastator or Chimera (Empire, no point putting in Executor considering that's very one sided) All well known Flagships. Having Home One put up against mass produced, stock, bog standard ships of each faction is far too one sided.

I did see a number of home ones during the battle of endor. I personally think they became more of a "serious" fleet capital choice

They're mostly droids and no lack of creativity can make them worse than any organic being They cost almost nothing Incredibly easy to produce Very little logistics problems (no food, no sleep, no needs apart from energy and fuel) Literally change the programming to train them for other things If there's a problem with the programming that can be fixed Are they stupid? Yes they are but they don't question orders and do what they must do. Decent enough orders cover up any need for creativity Oh and did I mention they are incredibly cheap and easy to build (I did but it deserves being mentioned again) 2. Absurd variety of droids that can be used for any specific situation That's another great point that is often overlooked It is also easy to make a new design for different applications 3. @@tuluppampam the Separatists’ main drawback there is that they’re all penny-pinchers. Many of the features you’re talking about would’ve upped the cost of their droids. For instance, battle droids were designed to cheap and expendable rather than combat-effective. The Separatists chose to keep them frail and stupid because it would’ve cost too much to at least improve their intelligence. Plus, they had the super battle droids by the time the Clone Wars began.

Acolyte has a point. The bad writing means the heroes win mostly because of plot. In stories from both canon and legends, Star Destroyers easily tear the rebels apart pretty much every time they face them.

Well I can accept in movies some level of lateral layout in space battles(after all we have way more cultural reference to surface battles than 3d space battles, and a 3d battle may have been a bit too strange looking and distracting). But in terms of pure tactical discussions for space battles we need to incorporate 3-axis battlefields and corresponding tactics. I mean what if instead of jumping in right in front of the star destroyers in Return, they positioned themselves below the star destroyers initially? The Star destroyers would nose over to point their arcs at the rebels, and the rebels could run tangental broadsides at the ventral surfaces of the star destroyers. Then again the true scope of said battle and its scale and positions would be very hard to truly capture on camera. Another point for lateral engagements in sci fi space movies.

Michael Hanson don't need, the coruscant battle is perfect, ships everywhere, the few issues i have with this are: gun not pointing below, the nose of the ships not pointing on any direction and the broadside scene wich was very awkward. This is not necessary to put in crazy stuff, just that would have perfectly fit. For the episode 6 final battle adding a ludicrous amount of small star destroyer's silouhette to complement the bigger one would have as well perfectly fit, just reinforcing the feeling of a hopeless situation with a consistent endless tide of ships.

Finally my objective by pointing out the bad placement of gun was as well to destroy the idea that the mon cal ship have such a great placement of their weapon according to eckharts. NomNomerz.- The war was orchestrated by palpatine to make it look like palps was the only thing holding of the confederate horde, so it's likely that without palp's interference, the seps would've of won. A chap i read about a while back took the time to do all the calculations, and the development of one clone would cost the same as 99 battle droids, 46 super battle droids or 8 destroyer droids, somewhat justifying dooku 's claim that the seps outnumbered the republic 100 to 1, therefore, we can assume that the republic would of likely lost the war due to economic strain and debt, rather then military loss (economic strain was reinforced a lot in the clone wars tv show as well) this was worsened unimaginably during a clone wars tv arc, where there was a crisis over the banks, during said crisis dooku managed to clear all debts on the seps, giving them a massive economic advantage. meanwhile, the sep's navy outnumbered the republic 4 to one, but a major problem with the seps was the fact that a lot of systems demanded confederate protection, so Dooku and grievous were forced to use only a portion of their forces offensive capabilities. additionally, the seps had about a third of the republic's territory, which although seems like a liability, actually maximizes their numerical advantage.

Completly agree, my list would be: 1. Providence 2. Venator 3. MC80 (Liberty, not Home One) 4. ISD Reasoning: The Providence was built in the same era as the Venator and with its droid fighters with superior maneuverability it could distract the Venator's starfighters. The providence could then close in and with its significantly greater firepower it would go out victorious. The Venator would be able to defeat the ISD by your description, and just the same when it is put against the MC80 of which has less starfighters (@The Pilot). When it comes to the MC80 vs ISD match, I believe that the Liberty Class would be able to win the same way the Venator beats the ISD, and because the MC80 has strong shielding it would be able to occupy the ISD's firepower while its fighters destroy it's vital components.

I think that the isd could take on every of those ships in an one one Battel if used right.

Jonas Brauer trust me, if it were design only the atte would win above all other vehicle, but the juggernauf is....well the name is self explainatory, its litteraly one and a half time higher than an at at and packs WAY more firepower , also, virtually every large walker(more than 8 meters) in fiction, not just sw, is fucking impractical, the closest to a practical large walker i know of are the metal gear rex and the scarab , the atte was THIS close, but it is an artillery , not a tank, the gunner doesn't have cover, and the pilot only has a weak AF canopy to protect himself, also we're saying "best" , so that doesn't take size difference into account, against pretty much anything of its size the atte stompw but we are counting everything. Sidenote, the seismic tank would be number one but i think calling it a land vehicle is cheating a bit

its a good idea, but a COMPLETE stomp in favor of the replicators, due to a number of reasons 1; the replicators are almost COMPLETELY immune to energy weapons, basically the only type of weapon used in starwars 2; the replicators can and will seek out and devour the most advanced tech they can find, then upgrade it even farther 3; the replicators also will have all the same features as what ever material they have consumed to make more of them selves 4; there is also an unlimited number of replicators, and as long as even one survives, they can replicate and come back again, with all the same tech they had last time plus whatever they can eat this time that's all i can think of for now, but yeah, the starwars galaxy has almost no hope of defeating the replicators

It's because they underestimated the Rebels and only really build ISD's for intimidation factors, any random uprising would just get annihilated by a single ISD, the Rebels were actually organised and used their strenghts very effectively.

Star Destroyers are powerful at range. But Mon Calamaris are better at closer range as they can take more damage than the Star Destroyers. Basically, MC will match a SD's fire power at closer range but then gives the MC an advantage over the SD as they can take more damage.

This has probably something to do with the design of the old trilogy. The Republic and the CIS usually brought army of similar size into battle. You cannot say that about the empire and the rebels. The empire usually outnumbered the alliance at least 5:1. So the alliance had some pretty amazing plot amor, which was later changed into "superior" technology. For instance the rebel ships had better shielding then the empire, that seems a little bit odd, considering that the empire usually takes what it wants. I am just saying, that a lot of the rebel superiority comes from changed plot amor.

InevitableVitare Nah, a Venator can outgun a Providence. The Providence only has 14 turbolaser batteries, and since the ship isn't in a dagger shape, only half can be used at once. And the Venator's turrets are exceptionally powerful.

dear dear, don't you remember general? you hated that ship, it was Nute gunray's after all, and you were meant to have a subjugator as your flagship for the battle of coruscant, but a pesky republic strike team disabled it's hyperdrive. actually the seps had 3 subjugators over the course of the clone wars, the malevolance (the first one) the second was destroyed during production, and the third one was reserved for coruscant but was sabotaged.

I believe that the ISD should be on the number 1 spot and the Providence and the Venator share the second spot because they were pretty much a tie when it all comes down.

Undeniably there would be ways to improve the Venator, like lowering the command towers or implementing more weapons. Probably one of Venators biggest failures is the weapon placement. On the top of the ship are the bridges and the main hanger entrance. Two things, there you really don't won't your enemy to shoot at. But still 80% of the weapons are on this side of ship. It would have made a lot more sense to put the 8 Turbo lasers at the underbelly, rather then next to the command tower. But as you said, the Venator is a carrier and the Republic used it for most of the time like one. Most of the time the Venators would stay out of enemy weapons range and deploy there fighters for assaults on enemy capital ships. The Home One shares a similar problem with the Providence, that it is most effective at broadsiding. This makes it way more difficult to effectively use it, because you have to expose a lot of your ship, which makes you a larger target. I don't see a large problem with the fact, that the ISD did have any point defense systems, because this could be compensated for by corvettes or delegated carries. The ship was designed to fight other capital ships. And it would be pretty good at it. If a fleet of 5 ISDs would meet a fleet of 50 magnificent frigates, the ISDs would most likely win.
