Love your work and the videos...am very excited to try...though I haven't got eucalyptus yet. Am going to try with hibiscus...fresh and dried...any tips? Should I use alum or vinegar on the cotton tee as mordant? Do I soak the flowers in iron water?

Would eco dying work on a OBV (Organic Bamboo Velour) type fabric? Or other types of synthetic fabrics such as polyester? How long does this dying method hold? I apologize- I am new to dying fabrics and would love to keep it as eco friendly as possible.

how do you make copper pot bath and iron scrap baths etc. ps love your work.
@berlinroses
@berlinroses 6 жыл бұрын
E Cooper you need an old copper pot, fill it with rain water and let it sit for 2weeks , then add your green giving foliage . Slow Iron mordant is made with scrap iron fragments that turns the water grey-black. 💕

let me understand: 1.-you put the leaves and the flowers in soaking with vinager water, then 2.-you go through iron water and finally 3.- you put them in your t-shirt and you throw them in the pot boiling with the mordant, the eucalyptus. Do you have another type of mordant? Please.

How do you fix the colours? Both results are lovely! Bx
@berlinroses
@berlinroses 6 жыл бұрын
Bixxy Nash fixing is optional as it's a living dye also eucalyptus is a natural mordant so it has a very long life . I like to observe as it ages with many of my experiments, these two I left in a natural state and normal machine wash them and they are still vibrant 6months later . It you want you can make a salt and vinegar bath I do this with garments that I am selling or an soda ash bath but this one alters the colour vibrancy converting reds to browns. 🌳

Could someone please tell me how you can boil wool and elastane for 2 hours without ruining it? These type of garments are usually recommended to be washed on a delicate or 30° cycle. Also does mordant mean fixative? Like salt, for example??
@berlinroses
@berlinroses 5 жыл бұрын
She'sso1970's hello of course garments often have recommendations and that’s what they are recommendations, wool generally will only shrink with heat & agitation and soap , here I have only heat . With heat , agitation and soap you get felt. And the elastin here is a blend with cotton. The only item I find compromised after the eco printing process in elastic . Mordant is a French word meaning to bite, it is a term used in dying referring to a substance, typically an inorganic oxide, that combines with a dye or stain and helped it to fix I n a materials.

Please let me know how you go and just Pe playful & give any silver looking eucalypts foliage a go xx happy printing
