How does my new EcoFlow Delta Max 2000 perform in the field?
In this video I take the EcoFlow Delta Max 2000 on a 24 hour overnight camping trip to see how it performs in the real world.
If you missed the first video in this review series, watch it here: • EcoFlow Delta Max Revi...
The EcoFlow Delta Max 2000 is 168AH (2016 watt hours) portable power station that has 13 outlets including USB-A, USB-C, 240V AC & 12VDC.
I'm putting the product through it's paces to see how I can use it as the auxiliary power system in my Landcruiser 80 Series as well as a backup power supply in my house when I'm not camping and on road trips.

Steve, when using a induction hot plate you need to have a certain pan mate not cast iron.

The reason it can only accept ~100W is due to the limited capability of the cigarette lighter. If EcoFlow draws more current from it, it might fry the cigarette lighter. However the solar panel is more capable on the high current. For induction cooker, you need IH compatible cookware. As to the fridge, you'd better check if your fridge accept DC input instead of AC. If it accepts DC input, it will be much more efficient than AC, since when AC is involved, the built-in inverter itself will consume quite some amount of power. And because of this, you should try your best to switch to DC appliances when you are on car trip and want to use the max potential of your EcoFlow (or any kind of battery power station).

Worth checking the Ecoflow app to make sure that your DC input current is cranked all the way up. My Delta Max offers 4A, 6A, and 8A on that input and you may have stuck it on a lower amperage along the way without realising it.

The main vehicle battery takes priority charging during driving. Power draw to that main car battery via the alternator is always going to be more than pushed out through the 12v cigarette socket to the Ecoflow Delta. I charge my Ecoflow River while driving and it generally gets to full power fairly fast. Topping it up using the solar panels is extremely fast and almost matches using a mains socket. What I couldn't understand was why you didn't move the folding Solar panels to a sunny ☀️😎 spot and simply carry the Delta to the same spot and connect it up. I could even see a nice full-sun area right behind you! 😂 That's why I didn't fit permanent solar panels to the roof of my X5 because I like to park the vehicle in the shade beneath a tree or inside a forest during warm seasons, and then carry the solar panels & Ecoflow to a nice suntrap area nearby, occasionally moving the panels to face the sun 🌞 as it travels across the sky. I use 120W & 150W folding solar panels connected together. There are two usb ports inside the solar panel, plus also the Ecoflow allows pass-through charging, so I often connect phone or camera batteries to the solar panels to charge everything at once, (depending on sunshine levels).

for you Landcruiser project if you have an inverter connected to your car battery and you recharge your Delta Max via the AC input and have a fixed solar on top of the Landcruiser the solar power and the inverter will combine and charge the Delta max at the same time max of 2800w (2000w AC and 800w Solar). You can set the AC input in the Delta Max to match the size of inverter you install in your vehicle, depending on size of your alternator you could get away with a inverter as small as 300w since the Delta Max minimum AC input is 200w at it's lowest setting.

Another informative Video Steve, i actually looked at this unit myself, but after speaking to Campers on my recent Andamooka & Roxby trip even a Camper who was a Off Grid Installer in the Moomba Gas Fields said my Waeco & Kings setups are far More Efficient from what he has Read. I'm only running a 2000w Invertor & 80 L fridge of the Kings and usually get around 3 days before i need to charge it. Already Planning my Big lap and finding your DVDs & Documents invaluable. Heading to the High Country in a Few Weeks so Rubicon would be Warmer than Dargo and some Mountain Huts

I’ve had a delta max now for about a month, so far very impressed, the high speed charging is great but it’s far too tempting to do it every time you charge which will shorten the battery life. I can get 2.5 days powering my entire setup with no charging, I’ll get more once I replace my 15year old 12v fridge with a more energy efficient one and replace my lights with LED.

Nicely done beautiful countryside. Camping is one of my favorite things to do as well. I just got my Delta 2000 3 days ago. I also have three 160 watt panels that I used to charge it up for the first time laying flat on the ground in the backyard. I was able to get about 375 W. I’m not new to EcoFlow. I have several other units, but this is my biggest one so far. Forgot to mention that my three panels at 375 watts charged it up to 100% from 25% in three hours.. i now have 4 panels

Hi Steve. If charging through the car 12 volt socket, they are only limited to 10amp (120watts @ 12v), some aux sockets are 20amp. To get a higher rate of charge, you really need a dedicated charging cable and connection similar to what you'd have in a built in dual battery system. The manufacturer might be able to advise if this is possible. I'm not an expert, but I do think that is the issue. Cheers Paul

Hi Steve, E5 overheating is caused almost always by the footprint of your frying pan being too big. I think if you try a small pan you won’t have the issue. Any iron or steel based magnetic metal is perfectly acceptable on an induction hot plate Cheers

Hi Dave, so far it seems like cast iron should work okay but needs to be heated gently otherwise it gets hotspots. I agree though that a more modern induction pan would probably be better. And also lighter weight. I'll keep experimenting.

From my experience in boats and charging two banks off a single alternator , you need a voltage sensing relay that prioritises the car battery and once that is full it sends the full alternator output to the ecoflow. Then you are only limited but the 12v input maximum the ecoflow can take. The fact that ecoflow recommended buying an inverter to charge by AC suggest these units aren’t really suited to 4x4 use. Use should be able to charge the ecoflow with 40-50 amps at 12 v from your alternator in the same way you are sending that charge to your deep cycle battery

Wow Steve, your a braver man than me. I would not camp in that temperature. So I don’t know if I should be worried, I was impressed by your first eco flow video, so impressed I purchased one last night from Harvey Norman Online . I just assumed that it would charge as quickly from the car as it did from 240 volts. I watched another video on the Bluetti same size and that chap also had issues on the charging the bluetti from the car. Can you please let me know what you find out about the car charging. Thanks Heaps.

I have only had the chance to run small tests, Question I think you mentioned that you can charge the unit from both solar and cigarette lighter at the same time. How did you go about this. It appears to only have a single input ?? I will watch your latest video on fast charging this morning. Thanks Keith

I would suggest the cast iron pan is probably retaining to much heat for the induction cooktop. A stainless pan would be better. Not better for cooking, but if you are going to continue using the induction cooktop, better for that.
@ExpeditionAustralia

I think you're right Karyn. I'll track down a better pan and give that a go. I've noticed there are a few non stick pans that work with induction. They have a stainless steel base and aluminium body. Might be worth a look. If I want steak I'll cook it on the fire!

The Ecoflow app has a setting for Discharge/Charge level. You can charge it up first if you like, let it decay to 60% (or whatever you set - 60 is the default), and it will maintain the battery there for its own good health. Mine decays down to 30% and then starts charging again back up to 60, so I only go to 100% when I'm going on a trip or expecting a storm to blow in.

Agreed. They could conceivably have overloaded the E5 error code if something funky happened like mild brownout voltage levels as you could get with X-Boost. I do not charge laptops or fones with X-Boost but still freaked out my electric blanket with it, also getting an undecipherable error code 'cause it didn't know what else to report before shutting down. @Eric Liu not arguing about proper choice of cookware on an induction plate, or that that's likely cause of E5.
