Where are the BYD stats? Sure they aren't sold in America but they are arguably about to pass Tesla in BEV and are miles ahead if you include PHEV which I notice were mentioned in your article.

Yes, the NZ government minister Simone Brown has nievely killed EV uptake in NZ with poorly conceived policy. The worst policy is the per-kilometer Road User Charges (RUC) being set at the same rate as 3.5T trucks, meaning an EV now pays roughly double the rate rate of a petrol car. Complete idiocy. But of course government ministers are never wrong, so this is unlikely to change Public EV fast chargers are now also in chronic short supply, meaning ques are forming at peak charging times. And this further de-incentivises the use of EV's

I'd love to say that could change in 2 years, but as unpopular as some of this govt's policies have been, the Opposition is a bit of a shambles. And they're still being blamed for the state of the economy....

most EV's are over 2T and you make it sound like 3.5T trucks have a special tax being the RUC but it actually applies to all diesel vehicles right? Probably of which 2T would be average. They don't pay road excise for fuel and neither do EV's. The RUC takes away the tax-free advantage so to speak, but you're making it sound like an extra penalty other transport doesn't pay which is dishonest. They are on a level playing field, which is bad, they should be given bonuses to encourage adoption. You don't need to be dishonest though.

@@knifeyonline most EV's in NZ are under 2T due to the long term popularity of the Nissan Leaf. But I like the way you don't let facts get in the way of voicing your opinion I repeat my position - EV RUC should be at a rate comparable to similar petrol cars ($45/1000km), not double the rate of comparable petrol cars. Taking your point, i think the same should apply to light diesel's The only outcome of Simone Brown setting the EV RUC at double that of petrol cars, is that EV uptake will be slowed, and NZ will fail to meet its emissions commitments (= costing all kiwis penalties in the future). Where is the sense in that? FYI I don't pay RUC, I have no skin in that game

We have 2 EVs so definitely a convert but as impressive as these numbers are I suspect they are still significantly below ICE sales. There is lots of work that needs to be done to achieve comparative sales

I was at Hampton Downs in May for the launch of the Ariya by Nissan. It is a nice car, so this is disappointing news 😔

In the USA, Automotive News reports that the sales rose in May. Underneath the sales are artificial incentives and deep discounts which is unsustainable. As inventories stabilize, the incentives by automakers will dry up even sales incentives by states are going away (New Jersey). Expect EV sales in USA to drop in the coming months much like what has happened in Germany.

really though? it looks like a 1970's inspired modern take of a capri to me. They just filled out the body exactly the same as they did to the mustang. I mean... it's garbage but it's exactly what I would expect, and exactly in character for them.
