Coming round from ECT is very different to coming round from anaesthesia though with ECT the patient is coming round from both! After ECT people take a lot longer to come round. Also they often do not know WHAT they are let alone WHO they are. It is a frightening experience. This is why they NEVER show this in promotional ECT videos. In this video they would have waited a long time before resuming filming and even then the patient did not say much!

ECT is safe an effective. As a nurse, this procedure is liike a procedure as cardioversion where the heart is beating out of sync such as stable ventricular tachycardia. The heart is given a shock which stops electricall activity for a moment and gives the hearts natrual pacemaker a chance to take over. ECT is similar in which the brain is given a shock to allow the brain to restart a better electrical activity. Or reboot its self. I have seen it done and will be under going it myself.

Everyone was like zombies, indifferent, apathetic. They could not focus even on the simplest tasks within the framework of rehabilitation, such as painting Christmas baubles. They shook their hands, smashed the baubles on the floor. They talked about how they had to learn about their family after ECT because they did not remember them. I am expressing this conclusion that due to ECT man loses his identity, he is no longer himself, he is something else. It's like killing a man and introducing the soul of someone else into his body. A barbaric, cruel method is nothing but legal torture. The very fact that in the Soviet Union ECT was commonly used to erase the memory of uncomfortable people, and in combination with psychedelic drugs they made obedient dolls with which the criminal regime could do what he wanted. Never disagree with ECT! After ECT, your self-awareness dies, in other words, as if you were dead. So what can they help? You will not experience this improvement because after using ECT in your body there will be a "different man".

it is an artificially induced seizure, It is 400 times stronger than an epileptic seizure. Basically it hyper routes electrical signals in the brain, intensifying them, and this occurs brain wide. From what I've heard, the jury is still out on how exactly is this treatment effective. Still, it's important to remember that there's more to depression than "chemical imbalance". ECT patients have typically nevwr had a seizure that WASN'T medically induced or suffered with seizures for their whole lifes. Hmm. Maybe it's just the Keppra talking. Would you recommend someone with epilepsy to have ECT?
@beenaplumber83794 жыл бұрын
That's a great question and it gets at the heart of what ECT really is. First, epilepsy is different in different people. The regular onset and propagation of the seizure is not predictable in epilepsy patients to the degree necessary to assure reliable therapeutic benefit, but mechanistically the seizures are the same, and they do indeed have the same benefit. However, anti-epileptic meds would need to be discontinued before ECT in order to achieve a therapeutic seizure. That can of course leave the patient vulnerable to unwanted seizures. So, just like the rest of us, it depends on the severity of the problem being treated and the experience of the psychiatrist or neurologist performing the procedure.
@angieflewelling22954 жыл бұрын

I don’t even remember going in the room for them. I also don’t even remembering signing any papers to give them permission for the ECT’s. I’m going to find out if I can see my impatience hospital care recorders to read what was going on.
@beenaplumber83794 жыл бұрын
@@angieflewelling2295 If you were at a competent hospital with a competent medical staff, the simple thing to say is that you were most likely treated competently, though it's hard for me to imagine not consulting your neurologist. There is so much research out there concerning ECT, and I am confident that a reliable answer to your question is out there. You should normally have full access to all of your medical records (in the US anyway), but there is an exception to that law concerning psych records. If the psychiatrist believes it will do you harm to see your records, they can withhold them from you. However, in that case you can appoint someone to inspect your records for you. Complete memory loss like yours is common for bilateral ECT, but I don't know anything about its effect on future seizures in a patient with epilepsy, other than the effects of reducing your anti-seizure meds before the ECT. Nor do I know if unilateral (right-side only) ECT causes the seizure to propagate to the left hemisphere in an epileptic brain, effectively making it bilateral ECT, with all the associated memory loss. But it's very difficult for me to imagine hospital staff performing ECT on an epileptic patient without considering all of these factors and weighing them against the severity of your psychiatric condition. That's the ultimate calculation for all of us - severity of our psychiatric problems vs. risk of the treatment being considered. That goes for every treatment, even taking a single Prozac. You have my emotional support, for whatever that's worth to you, in finding out what they did with you in the hospital, but I hope you'll be careful in dealing with the things you don't know. Missing memories and unanswered questions don't mean something bad happened. ECT is after all a rather drastic treatment, and it can have serious effects on your memory that linger for quite a while. That's why it should be used as a last resort. During my ECT treatments last week, I signed the consent for ECT while the nurse was prepping me, maybe 5 minutes before I was unconscious. If you had bilateral ECT, I would be shocked if you'd remember something that close to a treatment. For each treatment, there were 4-5 medical professionals surrounding me as I went under. I also had a hospital psychiatrist visiting me daily who was not involved with my ECT (no conflict of interest). Doing anything improper would be difficult to pull off in front of so many professionals, three of whom were MDs. I hope you can follow this up without feeling anxiety about the outcome. Good luck to you!

ECT affects the same part of brain like lobotomy. ECT works by damaging the brain. The initial trauma can cause an artificial euphoria which ECT doctors mistakenly call an improvement. After several routine ECTs, the damaged person becomes increasingly apathetic, indifferent, unable to feel genuine emotions, and even robotic. Memory loss and confusion worsen. From its inception, psychiatry has promoted BRAIN DAMAGE as treatment. Nothing has changed in this regard except the arguments are more subtle and lobotomy is now being called "disconnectivity."

Depression is a mood disorder, and ECT is an induced seizure. These two phenomenon are so radically catagorically different that it seems impossible for them to be connected. The origins of ECT are so strangely incoherent with modern medicine that questions arise which cannot be dismissed. How can a procedure which was originally used to stun hogs immediately prior to slaughter ( in turn of the century Italy) so as to make the killing of the hog less stressful on the animal somehow find its way into 21st century medical practice? Secondly, since ECT alleviates depression without serious adverse consequences, why are practitioners not required to undergo a treatment series ( or even one ) to verify that such a claimed benign procedure is in fact benign. Depressed or not, a benign procedure is a benign procedure and one would think an honest evaluation of could not be made without a personal determination. Frankly, it is all malarkey to me. The list of victims is large, and the ability of modern medicine to generate enormous profits is also quite large. Advertising's ability to sell products and services which have been proven to be alarmingly harmful makes me sense corruption and essential indifference at play here.

My perennial question: if ECT is so marvelous, and totally safe, and if since it is treating the subjective feeling of depression, why does the medical establishment so vigorously resist requiring all practitioners who are planning on providing ECT undergo a treatment? Isn't it odd? Why no enthusiastic medical volunteers? Don't they want to finally put to rest this ugly controversy? C'mon docs! Line up, lay down and tell us all about it!

This is the dumbest comment I think I’ve ever read. Do you ask the dentist pulling your wisdom teeth to pull one of their own teeth before they start doing it to others? Or did you write this without a brain?

It's life experiences that gives you depression not chemicals in the brain.

Sam Holden you’re a moron. There is scientific evidence that show chemical imbalances in the brain can cause depression

Despite their objections one must continue to shine the light of truth on these loathsome criminals and their Shills for their crimes against humanity . Only in its glare do their lies wither and die. It is the potent weapon they can not defend against.
