This is one of the most beautifully operating bands that I have ever heard-they are great to listen to and graceful to look at, they have such stage presents that they are indeed a show!

You re-create the spirit of the original Mothers better than anyone Ed.

I wouldn't quite put it that way. Part of the original Mothers' sound came from their weaknesses, not their strengths - about half the band were LA bar-band types who found Frank's unpredictable meter, key, tempo, and style changes very heavy going. But their stiff, awkward performances gave that band its unique sound. The Ed Palermo Big Band, though, has far better players, who have much less trouble with it. And Ed has his own spin on Zappa's material - wherein he treats FZ as a top-rank JAZZ composer, a peer of Ellington, Mingus, and Sun Ra, and plays Frank's music as big band jazz. It turns out to be very well suited to that treatment.

@@BaribrotzerThanks, I still way prefer the original Mothers. It was the unique combination of jazz, rock, chamber music, humour, surrealism, theatre etc that gave them their unique quality that no other bands seem to be able to capture in my opinion.

Stunning! My favorite band ever. Followed since mid 90s in NYC! Love Ed and EPBB. When Katie and/ or Napoleon are present it it just the icing on the cake.

After seeing Katie last night as she lit up the stage yet again for The Who ….at United Center in Chicago…had to binge me some EP FZ, and stumbled upon this, which may be the finest interpretation of one of Franks most beautiful compositions/arrangement from a criminally underrated album. Thanks again Ed for doing this profoundly wonderful project. I hope to witness in person the glory of the EPBB (hopefully with Katie in tow ) someday………..

I saw your big band at 7th Ave South in the early 80’s….then found your album….the one with Edgar Winter’s as a guest. Great stuff. I remember you conducting….then grabbed your sax out of your case on a table, and did a solo. A memorable performance in my mind. Cheers!

*@Scott Thunes* You're good about replying to comments. I hope you'll answer this. Before you joined Zappa, you were a fan. Who did you really enjoy on bass guitar prior to your tenure? Of course all were great. Zappa didn't hire any slouches. But who really stood out for you? For your part, from 1981 to the end, you commanded the role.
