Now that I have spent a bit of time with the A8, time to give it a proper review and go a bit more in-depth on why I bought a depreciated 2019 A8L! This car has so much technology and luxury, and given the original $100k+ MSRP and mere 10k miles, I think it is a fantastic deal at $50,000. I am definitely looking forward to having this as my daily driver and winter car (especially cause of the heated arm rests...am I getting too soft?). Enjoy this first proper review of my A8L!

I wish Mercedes/Audi/BMW would make a basic design that has German car goodness and lasts forever. Don't want air suspension, CANBUS everything, and interior gizmos. The last car that fit this profile was the W123.

I have continually owned Audis since 2000 with ZERO regrets! ‘99 A4 Quattro 2.8; ‘07 A6 Quattro 3.0; A6 Quattro 3.0T; and now a 2019 A8L w/ the 3.0 turbo. Driven each one 80-100k (except current one) with virtually no problems. Wonderful cars. Used to be a great value, but now people realize how good they are.

I have the same care basically without the rear wheel steering. I paid $48 for mine and it is CPO'd for a 100k mi warranty and 2 extra years. I can't say enough how much I LOVE this car!! On road trips it is AMAZING! Around town, it is AMAZING. It is the most comfortable car I have ever driven. FYI this car with the 55 TFSI has been clocked at 0-60 at 5.1s stock. It is definitely understated and people don't realize how long this care is. But it does fit in my garage lol. And the Quattro system is amazing, I went drifting in my car last winter.

@@startingtech3900 CPO gives you the peace of mind of the new warranty. In these luxury sedans, there are all types of switches and electronics for all the gizmos and gadgets. Having them is cool, but when your massage seat breaks or your rear window switch pops off, you lose functionality. The CPO warranty will cover that stuff so you don't have to worry about the thousand things that can go wrong. You're going to pay more, going to have to go through the brand-associated dealer, but for me the peace of mind is worth it. A normal used car, you can buy an aftermarket warranty, but in my experience the dealer's take better care of me, cover more stuff, and give less problems when it's a CPO car.

It's an interesting trade off between the v6 and the S8. the S8 is faster...but it's 500 lbs heavier. V6 is more nimble. They both ride on the same size tires, so the lesser weight will benefit the v6 is all circumstances.

We have had our fully loaded 2012 Audi A8L since new. V-8 It has 180,000 miles and the engine still runs like new. We’ve always had the scheduled maintenance done at Audi. We occasionally take it out locally to the store. It’s been a very good car. If well maintained it will not disappoint. But… be ready to lay out some major cash for any repair. That’s why it depreciates so fast.

reliability sucks.. Audi is Volkswagen and these cars die at less than 100k miles normally. Have $5000-$10,000 for problems, watch Craig from Flying cars on youtube, his A8 70k needs a rebuilt motor ( I try to warn him.. all the 2.0t engines die between 60-70k miles but that's how long a 4cyl boosted engine should last unless its a very well made car and Audi is very well unmade lol. @@pungolay6586 the cars that have the chain behind the engine need the engine to come out and if you have the v6 with the supercharger add another 5k to that already 5-7k job. Audi and Saab drivers are the most delusional drivers I ever met, make an excuse fir everything, mean while y first car handed down to me from my parents was a 91 brougham d'elegance that made it to 280k miles with only 1 transmission change from the junkyard that had 80k on it and worked perfect for the 100k I added to it and it was the 305 chevy v8 with every option, gold key, black on black on black with auto start moonroof CD player and was had the best bosch ABS brakes in the world. For a heavy car the car stopped in a dime! My Toyota Tercel, 1995 couple, paid 500 for it and it had 0k miles sold it at 150k miles while still looking and driving like a brand new car, the $20 co2 sensor from ebay took 3 wires to cut and reconnect to fix. Sold the car for 500 later and the girl I sold it to drove it for another 5 years with no problems till she crashed it one day in a blizzard. I hate a Jetta in high school spent crazy amount of money of upgraded Ko4 turbo blow off valve R32 wheels and the car had like 30k miles and spent more than 50% of its life at the mechanic shop, sure it was fast made cool noises and was probably making every girl wet with those blow valve sounds but it was the worst car I ever owned and I owned a lot of bad cars.

I would love for you all to update your experiences with these cars three years AFTER you buy them, and see if you are just as excited about them then. Many people (including me) have had poor experiences with CPO German luxury cars (Mercedes, BMW, Audi), including having major repair bills, maintenance headaches, recalls, and other problems. Not to mention continued rock-like depreciation. And many people have also had problems with these cars that turn out to be "wear and tear" items, or other issues, NOT covered by the CPO warranty, and costing big bucks to fix. Don't get me wrong - I'm rooting for you! But it would be helpful for others considering doing the same thing to get your feedback "down the line" and see how you feel about your purchase 2-3 years later (not just immediately after buying the car). Thanks!

We have owned luxury german cars for too many years to remember how many, i hear your comments all the time but we haven’t experienced these issues at all? Is it because we buy new then keep for many years, my wife’s Audi is a 2015 that we bought new and still have thanks to Covid and the replacement she wants not in stock anywhere. It is approaching 100,000 miles her prior car we bought form her sister off lease (deal couldn’t pass up) so it was 3 years old when she got it then we had for additional and like her current we had no significant issues at. Sister in law has been driving BMWs since we bought her Audi (2009) for some time with no issues. So weird I hear people comment on their reliability being poor yet we just haven’t experienced this yet with the models that we have had, I just bought a 2022 Q7 that has a ton of electronics so has pretty all this one haves so guess we will see how this goes.

@@theone5404 The car themselves are great as long as they are newer and under warranty. There are lot of people that lease them and never deal with much in repair and maintenance. Have you ever noticed how many of them are used car market as 4-6 year old cars versus the amount originally sold? That speaks volumes about people not wanting one out of warranty....and then there is that rock like fall of depreciation.
@turnne
@turnne 9 ай бұрын
I hear you....years ago I had a used Mercedes S class and then bought a CPO BMW 7 series. Both sustained some repairs, under warranty, that would have been very scary to pay for out of pocket. In fact on the Mercedes , I found out that a $4000 warranty repair had been done once before when the car was about 2 years old with the original owner. Wonderful cars when they are sorted and under warranty. The other thing is that the dealers seem to have every method possible of extracting the maximum amount of money from your wallet.

Yes, but ure not accounting in the reason why these cars depriciate the way they do. Youl lose those 10-15k$ sure, but ure gonna put another 15-20k$ into regular maintence,fuel and overall upkeep expenses. That leased Civic aint gonna go much over that price u paid for it. I see alot of younger people buying these cars due to their "low" price and then end up getting their reality check, also a part of how hard is to sell such a used car later on. There was a post I saw somewhere on facebook or reddit on a high milage A8 that someguy drove for 10 years and had crazy milage on it, statistics were that dude paid around 1x - 1.5x of another BRAND NEW A8 in repairs,parts and upkeep over the 10 year span. Sure that isnt a stable fact due to the reason dude rode it heavily out and needed more repairs than usual, but u get the point. These cars are HELL to own.

@Omgiamsotriggered

The issue is many people who buy into these cars are certinely not on the list that the car costs 1% of their net worth. Majority of the buyers are younger people who see a luxury car for a good price and think its a bargain, then they end up getting a reality check. Not saying there arent exemptions, but in majority of cases youl pay another worth of car in running that car daily in a span of couple of years.@@robocop581

rode* :) I can sort of believe that, considering the first gen Ghost was basically a glorified 7 Series and the Flying Spur based on a 23 year old platform (I still love the Phaeton though, and genuinely think it's comparable, if not better, than the last gen of luxury German saloons).
@fourings
@fourings 9 ай бұрын
@@Hannibalmiles8494 that’s a bit misleading. A few Flying Spurs were made in the Transparent Factory in Dresden but only when the capacity at Crewe reached maximum (sadly a problem the Phaeton never had). @fourings
@fourings 9 ай бұрын
I’m going to have to disagree with you there. There is a serious reason that the Ghost and Flying Spur cost HUNDREDS of thousands more. Luxury doesn’t only mean the quietest cabin (which Rolls actually tunes because at a certain point not hearing ambient sound can cause motion sickness). The level of detail is unmatched in $100k-150k cars vs Rolls/Bentley. The materials are all more exotic and higher quality as well as offer more bespoke customization but more importantly it’s how far these material extend in the cabin. Basically plastic doesn’t exist. The buttons in the center console on Bentley are made of glass, the fuel cap is solid aluminum, the seat belt receptacles are wrapped in leather, the headliners are leather, the wood inlays are book matched. Blah blah blah.. but this stuff matters and it’s what sets the next tier apart

@seans9125 9 ай бұрын
In a highly optioned S class, the wood is, likewise, book matched. You can get a solid aluminum fuel cap. The seat belts are likewise wrapped in hand woven cloth with airbags inside them. Headliner is Alcantara or leather depending on options. Not to mention the designo leather quality in an S Class is as good if not better than the standard leather in a flying spur / ghost. I too would've thought the "quality" of materials would be better in a flying spur / ghost but they're simply not. The air vents in a W222 S class are wrapped in real aluminum while those air vents in a ghost are coated in reflective plastic. Every single surface can be wrapped in leather in an S Class. Lower door cards in an S class are wrapped in leather. Speaker plates are real aluminum. I have a Bentley Arnage which, in my opinion, is where bentley left their true quality behind when they were bought by VW. Not a single new Bentley has felt quite as exquisite as my Arnage. I cross shopped the same year flying spur with S classes when looking for a daily and wasn't blown away. The steering & pedal feel are tuned perfectly in the S class. The flying spur was likewise well tuned but not any better. Up until recently, the last generation ghost was built on the same platform as the 7 series and it showed in its driving experience, too. Not to mention Mercedes' Magic Body Control easily beats the Ghost & Flying Spur when it came to ride quality. The only gripe I have with my S class is that the gear selector is plastic. Every other control is aluminum coated with perfect weighting.@@fourings

Good purchase for sure. This isn't far off from the real crazy luxury sedans (Bentley/RR), but at a fraction of the price it's hard to complain. I went with a V8 G90 with every option for under 40k CAD. Big fan of these large luxury sedans. They're surprisingly fast and fun to drive on top of all the great materials, nice sound system, quiet interior, 360 cameras, 4 heated/cooled memory seats, lane keep and adaptive cruise control...and if you're lucky you can get one for the price of a new loaded Civic! Can't go wrong with one, although I wonder how reliable the A8L will be and what the maintenance cost will come up to each year. Great point that a100k car took a huge depreciation and you get a great car at fraction of the price. Yes you will drive it daily and get your moneys worth it.

I bought the same used 2019 A8L last December (12/22). The car is fully loaded with every single options added (executive package with rear screens, etc.). Very rare find. I have the window sticker from delaer. The MSRP was $124K. The car had 27K miles on it and I bought it for $54K which was an amazing deal to me. It wasn't CPO so I bought Audi pure protection plan which extended the warannaty for another 4 years (The car had about a year and half left on its original warranty). All in I paid like 57K (with warranty) for an executive sedan which drives amazingly both on city roads and highways. I feel like A8 doesn't get much appreciation from consumers. The D5 is definitely a better car than previous 7 serie and S class. Remember this gen was released in 2018, so it has to be compared with those gens of 7 and S class. The fit and finish (interior quality) of Audis have always been better with no extra noises or squeaks... Audi does cars the best. It's sad to see all future Audis will only be EV.

I have this same car, best daily driver I have ever had!! Be on the look out for the belt alternator going, it is linked to the start/stop system and the hybrid battery. There is a fix already and should be under warranty so covered. When it went it killed my regular battery too replaced under warranty. Even with that, I wouldn't trade this car for the world, there is nothing like it.

Very nice review indeed. He covered everything you need to know for such a buy. In Nov 2021. I got a 2019 A8L spec'ed like this one but not black. I had 11K miles on it, one owner, maintenance paid until 90,000 km, full AUDI CPO until Jan 2024. I have 58k miles on it now, but it rides like on the first day. Sure, I had few minor issues, but being covered by CPO I didn't care. When CPO expired, I got Audi ext warranty for 3 more years to eliminate any headaches. Let's clear some air here for those who are concerned about repairs and maintenance. Once you jump to this class of cars expect to pay more for everything. If you have 20 bucks in the pocket don't go Ruth's Steak house for dinner. If you drove Acord or Nissan Maxima till now and can't afford more don't get into A8L. Simple as that! OK. enough being cocky :). I drove Lexues in the past and they are reliable and "luxury" sedans up to one point (feature to feature comparison to German cars). When you compare the sheer tech Audi put on A8L D5 you realize that LEXUS cannot stand next to Audi in any category. Lexus LS is reliable because it is a simple car and doesn't offer half of what A8L has. So, you want a majestic drive and luxury? Be ready to pay for it and as far as I am concerned this is the way to have it. Wait 2 years for the dream car and get it after depreciated 50% +.

YOU GOT A GREAT DEAL! I have a 2020 A8L 60TFSI with rear wheel steering. I paid 78K mine and now dealers are only offering 52K. The original price was 119K. I don’t plan on getting rid of it because this car is great. I can relate to everything you are saying. I don’t need more power, this car goes from 0-60 in the low 4sec. But like you said that is not the reason for buying this type of car. The smoothness and quietness, the message seats, the Quattro and handling, the power that mine has, it is the ultimate in luxury. Dealers have undervalued this car. Great news for anyone in the market for a true luxury vehicle.

I am a 30yo, 2019 BMW 750 (G12) owner, and I agree with literally everything you said, I just like V8 and interior so I went with it, I also had a few S580 bookmarked, but they were a bit more expensive than what I liked, and a couple A8L as well, but I just don't like 6-cyl in huge car like this personally (same with S550 as well). @@Tm0n3y762 It' because the S-class has been around way longer than the other two. S-class sells a lot more and it more widely known as the "ultimate luxury car". Also if you look at current MSRPs, the Benz is significantly more expensive. I've tried to buy a used A8 at least twice in the past few years, and they get so noisy with creaks and pops from all of the cheap plastic bits (they do look nice). Once you get a few thousand miles on them it's kind of ridiculous. But it is an issue that plagues most of the luxury brands, except perhaps Lexus. Just surprised so many owners and reviews don't seem to notice (or care). Every time someone tells me theirs doesn't make noises, I'll go for one drive and immediately point out several super obvious noises. I just can't accept that for such an expensive vehicle. Also, even with that big discount on this CPO A8, it'll still lose another 20k in a couple of years. But they are otherwise nice cars, enjoy.
