There were already 130 million girls out of school worldwide before the COVID-19 crisis, and an estimated twenty million more may never return to their classrooms once the pandemic is over. Dorsa’s talk highlights the importance of women’s education as a way to alleviate poverty, improve the global economy, and solve many of the challenges facing our world.
Dorsa is a student in year 12 at the Academy. She is someone who is heavily interested in topics surrounding the subject of History and English Literature. She loves debates and spreading knowledge about topics which are often misinterpreted or don’t receive enough attention, leading her to be a part of the Model UN committee at the Academy. Her strong views on feminism and advocating for equal rights for all has led her to want a career in Law as a prosecutor in the future. As a member of the charity committee and a Senior Prefect, Dorsa has been someone who works towards a change within the Academy’s environment and community, in order to fully ensure that all students are heard and that we are all contributing to giving back. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

The "girls' right to education" refers to the fundamental human right of every girl to receive an education. Education is a basic human right that helps individuals to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities, and to participate fully in society. However, in many parts of the world, girls are denied this right because of social, cultural, economic, and political factors. Denying girls the right to education has serious consequences not only for them but also for their families, communities, and countries. Education helps girls to develop critical thinking skills, become more self-aware and confident, and make informed decisions about their lives. It also enables them to improve their health and well-being, reduce poverty and inequality, and participate in the workforce and in political and social life. Therefore, ensuring that every girl has access to education and the opportunity to learn is crucial for promoting gender equality, reducing poverty, and achieving sustainable development.

Wrong. Providing women with more rights (access to higher education, voting etc.) leads to downsides such low fertility rates and failed policies.

This is a message that needs to be championed worldwide NOW. If women are given access to unbiased education and an equal seat at the global table, we might be saved from certain extinction.
