Educational Fighting Game Combos | "Will It Kill?"

Can you guess if these fighting game combos are going to kill?
"Will it Kill?" is a show about funny fighting game clips, throwing rocks, betting fake points, being legally distinct, command grabs, and the joy of learning. We'll show a fighting game clip and pause it on one of the hits of a combo. You have to vote on whether the combo will kill or not. There are no drops, Time-outs don't count, and we try to get as close to optimal as possible. Capcom Cup may interfere with WIK next month, but who knows; we'll keep you posted.

So to somewhat explain the Jackson combo, Jackson has 6 bullets, by spending them he can do a Trigger Cancel which partially resets damage and hitstun scaling. By Trigger Canceling a super the rest of the combo is unburstable. So basically, he can combo as long as he has a bullets.

@@MUGENanaya he can burst by using two bullets. For the record he only gets bullets back at the start of a round, one for winning and two for losing. His damage is subpar without using a bullet so having all 6 at the start of a round is pretty rare

Yeah, the consequence is that a defensive Johnson player can burst up to 3 times in one round. It's rare that it happens, but I think he is the only character that can do that, at the cost of completely sacrificing his offence!

You never know when someone will submit a non-lethal Makoto just to mess with everyone. It's all mind games within mind games. Also I'm definitely not huffing copium for voting wrong on that one, haha :')

The long con of Sajam mentioning a pattern between 2 command grabs AND teaching the importance of Bravery Points only for the Ladiva command grab to not kill is insane. Do not let this man tell you that he is impartial or that this show is fair. You will lose your hard earned points.

It was so obvious after everything had been said that there was no way in hell that command grab killed though, he was building a storyline with a message to improve future WiK players. And that message is you gotta have a feel for the flow of the show more than any knowledge can help you

I've submitted it a couple of times and was really happy to see it shown. He learned that loop from a random in matchmaking and the chat coined it 特売日ループ "Sale's Day Loop" since Saitama is shouting about missing sales day at the supermarket during the move.

Johnson and Evilobster are guests from another game called Schwarzerblitz, which features a bullet system similar to what seen in the clip. Evilobster is a skin for Baron Brightstar in Duels of Fortune. Instead, Johnson/Jackson (long story, the name change is story-related) is a full guest character and has a mechanic that allows him to reset hitstun/increase damage. The original system from his original game Schwarzerblitz allows him to spend bullets to make his attacks unblockable and deal additional hitstun OR to run after the opponent on a successful launcher. Bullet Counters cannot be recovered in any way except at round start (2 for losing, 1 for winning). His DoF variant has something similar in spirit - he doesn't have access to his unblockable Trigger Attacks, but he can use his Trigger Cancels in a more freeform way. Also, Shaz the sharkman is his best friend, in the post-epilogue material :D

I love how Sajam was offended on behalf of Jackson's sharkman friend (Shaz), plus the people thinking Jackson was a Happy Chaos style character with the bullets. The Shaz throwing super is so funny. Anyway both Duels of Fortune and Schwarzerblitz, the 3d fighting game Jackson, Evilobster, and Shaz crossed over from, are free on Steam.

Both of the Duels of Fortune clips had guest characters in them. Mystery Johnson and Evilobster are both from the _free_ 3D fighting game Schwarzerblitz, with Evilobster being a special Injustice 2-style skin for Baron (who was in past WIK clips). Johnson is pretty dripped out in his own game, though his fighting style is so Virtua Fighter-plain that his shark friend super is new for DoF. He could always do stuff with his hat, though. Johnson's bullet system is a mechanic ported from Schwarzerblitz, though it was meant to evoke an edgy 90's feel rather than represent gun ammunition. Ember was wearing an alt costume, and is one of the playable characters from the upcoming Paper Mario-like platformer Hyper Team Recon. She can copy moves from everyone like Kirby.

I love these “will it kill” segments they would play these sometimes live at Evo just to fill time while they setup the next fight or if a technical difficulty arises they play these videos for us live in the audience. While commentators make small talk it’s a great system.

if you ever think a move in your game is too active, in the DNF Duel clip at 22:55 Brawler's combo starter has 20 ACTIVE FRAMES and can meaty people even after youve hit the ground again

Very different game, but I think in UMvC3, Amaterasu's super lasts so long for a damage super, that when done in a team hypercombo, someone like Doom can recover while it's still going. Opponent has to block the full-screen super for a solid second while Doom is free to move. But that's a 3v3 game. Idk about any 1v1 game that does that ngl. But 20 frames of invuln have been seen before(Potemkin backdash in +R)

It's hard to catch everything for all games, especially when we watch 400 clips over the course of a few days. We're usually pretty good about it, but sometimes an unoptimal combo slips through.

It's a thing that comes from his original game, Schwarzerblitz (Johnson/Jackson is the same character, he changes name during the story for reasons). Basically, he can randomly lose his hat if he is hit enough times, but can also wear it back with a special command. However, he has a secret move that can only be performed while standing near the fallen hat. This move, Hat of Doom, is present both in Schwarzerblitz and in his Duels of Fortune guest character version. It's usually a gimmick with very little usage in a real match, but it feels great when it connects 🤣

I love WIK, but the magic pixels in some of these games are infuriating. Clip 2 Saber's life rockets down to 1, then 6 hits in a row do literally 0 damage each for no reason. Why do fighting game companies just make the life bars lie?

Next month,perhaps tou could do a special "Will it Kill" live and location. It would probably need to be all Capcom/Street Fighter to appease the powers to be, but it could be fun. If not this year....maybe plan ahead for next year so toy can dot your i's ans cross your t's with Capcom.
