Efan swap for Hummer H3. This efan conversion with the Taurus efan works and looks great! Improved MPG plus more power! I have successfully completed this exact efan swap on many vehicles and strongly recommend this modification!

Hello Alerumba 🤓 I used the thickest yellow wire near the driver's side kick panel inside the vehicle (hidden by the plastic trim) for the switched 12V+ signal to the fan controller relay. For the 12V+ power, I ran mine straight to the battery from the fan controller relay. This can be seen in better detail in the diagram section of the video. 😎 Let me know if you need anything else!

Great mod! Since day 1 it's bothered me that I have a fan clutch, but now I am noticing my AC really sucks at idle sitting at a traffic light. I think part to do with not much airflow past the rad and condenser. Did installing the e fans make any noticable change to your AC performance?
@H3Humper
@H3Humper 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 🤓 I think the biggest flaw with our stock clutch fans is the fan speed being dependent on engine speed (RPM), which is low at idle (not much airflow across radiator and condenser, like you said) and possibly no airflow at all if the fan clutch isn't engaged due to low engine temp. The speed of the efan with this setup is solely dependent on engine temp (off, low@195°F, or high@210°F) and A/C (off or high speed) which is what makes it so functional and precise! 😎 My A/C is surprisingly cold at idle with this setup, which I'm certainly thankful for! Unfortunately I didn't have A/C installed on the vehicle before installing the e-fan, so I can't make a before-after comparison for A/C performance. The "high" speed moves a tonnn of air, so I imagine it is cooling the condenser really well. Keep me updated if you decide to try an efan setup!

nice. ive been thinking about electric fans. so.. before the fan swap did your temp gauge hover between 1/2 and 3/4 all the time? mine does. just wondering..
@H3Humper
@H3Humper 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I really think efans are a great spot to improve fuel economy and functionality. Yes, before the swap my temp gauge hovered between 1/2 and 3/4, constantly. Mine still operates between these temps (with the e-fan swap) but A/C efficiency increased a lot from the e-fan, especially during idle or stop-and-go traffic. It also resulted in noticeable improvements to fuel economy and got rid of the "jet taking off" sound synonymous with the the stock fan.

@H3Humper 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and I hear you! This whole swap only costed $36, though! It provided me with a lot more space to work in the engine bay (which I seem to be doing constantly haha), helped with cooling the A/C down at low RPM, and bumped my fuel economy up 2-3 MPG. It was definitely justifiable for my needs, but I get it's not for everyone!

@@H3Humper oh dang! I thought it would be more than that! I just wonder how much power draw it takes. Great Video. I Heard that this method will decrease the motor life span. Is that correct, what are your opinions?
@H3Humper
@H3Humper 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Hans 🤓 I have not heard or seen this having a negative impact on engine longevity. This swap allows for a consistent electric load to be drawn only while the fan is active (low speed on at 91°C and high speed on at 99°C). The stock mechanical fans put increasingly higher mechanical load on the engine with increased RPM while the fan clutch is engaged, decreasing efficiency. Additionally, the stock fan and cowl have a good size gap between them to allow for the engine to move, which further decreases the efficiency of the fan. I do believe the stock fans work well but waste a lot of energy due to their limited tolerances and variable (based on RPM) load. The efan has really tight tolerances, turns on and off with precision, improves throttle response, and improves overall efficiency. All of these aspects lead me to believe an efan puts less strain on the engine, leading to prolonged engine life.

where did you get that Resnator Tube and Does the PCV valve hose run in to there ?
@H3Humper
@H3Humper 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Roon! I purchased a universal tube from Summit (like this amzn.to/3hyFRyW) and fit my own adapter into the silicone hose to connect the PCV hose to. Alternatively, people put PCV filters on both PCV nipples on the engine, eliminating the need for the hoses. I am actually dissatisfied with how the intake tubing turned out and am planning to make a new tutorial on how to make DIY composite intake tubing (which will include a better PCV inlet).

Hey Jesse! I used to own an S10 a long time ago and did a lot of digging before swapping an efan onto it. A dude named Martin (MartinBuilt is his channel) discovered this combination of parts for his Jeep e-fan swap and made a handful of informational videos on it. At the time, I used his ideas and some forum posts to gather parts. A year ago, I tried using this combination of parts for another swap on me and my gf's '86 Astro camper and the fan, once again, fit great. Before buying parts for my H3, I measured the radiator width to ensure the fan would span across it. To my surprise it fit perfectly again! There are some other people in racing forums who use Ford Contour e fans because they are even more overly engineered than the Taurus ones (used on race car builds). I have not found anyone online who's done an alternative efan swap on the H3, so hopefully this will stir up some interest for folks. 😎

Hey there, I do not have experience with a double fan but have read about people using a double fan from a 90's Sunfire or something. I don't recommend the after market fan kits, really. If you write the fan how I did, a tune is not required. If using the PCM to control the fan, then a person would need to adjust parameters in the tune file.

I have done a lot of diagnostic work and reading with the help of others and feel confident in (at least part of the issue) being related to my fuel pump assembly (specifically the check valve or fuel pressure control module).

@@jamesscheider7055 I would not recommend it since the thermoswitch would not be using the actual temperature of coolant inside the engine. I don't have a photo but the verbal description I give in the video is accurate. There is a short 1-inch section where the hose is "straight" and it can be cut in the middle of the straight section, allowing approximately 1/2-inch on either side to clamp the coupler into place. Be sure the cut is perpendicular to the hose and that there is enough room on either side of the cut to secure the hose clamps.
