In this video, we are installing an EFI Fuel Tank in a 68 Camaro with the original carbureted 250 Inline 6 with a manual fuel pump. So the secret to this installation will be to eliminate/bypass the electronic fuel pump from the kit and create a fuel pickup tube configuration. I am installing the Tanks Inc. EFI Tank kit for the 1968 Camaro. The kit included a Sending Unit and Fuel Pump Assembly.
This is the first of many videos to come on my 1968 Camaro named, The Mistress. This video along with a few more will be published close together as these are a few upgrades that I am making to this car in preparation to my son and his bride, driving away from their wedding.

Very good video. Found this video as I too had questions about where to put that roll-over valve on a Generation 1 Firebird. Much like the Gen 1 Camaro there is no logical location. Your video will surely help!! BTW the idea to have your Son use the vehicle at the wedding is supper Awesome! I did the same thing when I got married some 25 years ago; a friend let my wife and I borrow their 69 Camaro for the escape vehicle 🙂

I am very satisfied with the location of the roll over valve. We do not experience any fumes within the vehicle. Not only did my son use it driving away from their wedding, they also barrowed it on their 1st anniversary Date Night. Cheers to you and enjoy that Firebird! Mike

Thank you so so much for this. I am currently doing the same thing but with a 327. Eventually going EFI but going to keep the carb and mechanical pump for a small while go get the car going. Can’t wait to get this started. Again, thank you much!

Man... I love my Dawgs! And very happy that we finally did it! Health is always an issue, but I pick my battles. I've owned Rowdy for 34 years now and am really enjoying the process of giving him a new life. If I'm not working on it, I'm researching something for it or this build. Always studying something so that I learn something new every day! Cheers Mike

Watching your videos on the LS Harness encouraged me to consider an LS for my 37 Chev PU. Last Jan my cousin's son who runs an Auto Recycler, texted. me and asked if I would be interested in a low mileage clean engine and transmission from a 2014 2WD Silverado out of TX. I said yes without doing my homework and now I have it. I've since learned that there are virtually no common swap parts between an LS and an LT1. not even motor mounts. There is no factory option for a power steering pump, there's no port for vacuum as vacuum is provided by a mechanical belt driven pump. The wiring harness is far to difficult to rewire and the harness is intended for the left fender well. I have no room there for the ECM. So I will be getting a custom harness that allows the ECM to be installed in the cab. So this weekend I set the engine between the frame rails and set the grilll shell in place. To my dismay, the outlet of the water pump was outside the grill shell. The Truck LT1 engine has the water pump offset to the drivers side. My first reaction was that I would have to get a mid mount front drive assembly. But after spending some time and bringing the fender out, I believe I can modify the sheetmetal to allow the water pump to extend into the wheel well. Another consideration is the fuel delivery. Unlike an LS, there is no return line and a PWM pump is required. Tanks Inc. tells me they have that pump so I'll be going that route. Thanks for your videos

Wow! It sounds like... but I hope it doesn't want to fight you all the way! I was actually not familiar with a PWM Fuel Pump, but just looked it up. Very interesting. You are charting into waters that many have not. I hope the best for you with that swap. The 37 Chevy looks awesome. The engine that I bought for Rowdy was $600 from the salvage yard. Although I have spent much more on it with the rebuild. All cool stuff and fin to learn. Best of luck and have fun with your build. Cheers to you Sir. Mike

Very well made video. How did you attach the valve to the bracket you made? And... how is it holding up?
@UCanDoIt2Mike
@UCanDoIt2Mike 8 ай бұрын
The Vent Valve as I show it at 30:35 comes apart. The barbed fitting on the bottom unscrews. The bracket goes between the Valve and the barbed fitting. This works great! I have not experienced any issues at all.
@asicerik
@asicerik 2 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean about that valve. I gave up trying to find an answer myself. Now, imagine my grief because GM says I need a fluid check valve + rollover valve since my vent line connects to an EVAP canister. I STILL don't know if what I have is correct, LOL.
@UCanDoIt2Mike
@UCanDoIt2Mike 2 жыл бұрын
I figure the easiest way around all this is to not roll our cars overs!!! Unless I learn later through comments from this video, I am going to use a similar solution on Rowdy. Rowdy did have a fluid check valve and rollover valve, and I might be able to test them and put them inline again, otherwise I imagine that the Tanks Inc solution is adequate. Cheers!

I just did my efi fuel tank for my ls swap… when watching your vid I noticed your return tube wasn’t cut on a diagonal and it wasn’t an inch from the bottom of the tank. Thoughts ?
@UCanDoIt2Mike
@UCanDoIt2Mike 2 жыл бұрын
My Camaro, at this point still has it's original straight 6 with a mechanical fuel pump. The original fuel line system did not have a return line. This fuel system on operates at 3-5psi. The purpose of this video was to install TODAY, an EFI Style Tank and make it work with the current engine. Noting that this car will get an LS Swap in it's near future. My original tank had leaks and it needed to be replaced now. I needed an interim solution. If you notice in the video, I abandoned the fuel return portion of the Fuel Pump assembly. On the outside, I capped off the return port. on the inside, I actually removed the dropdown tube. I do not have a fuel return as part of my system. For you, since you are installing an EFI Tank and you have the EFI LS Engine... you will need a return. And yes, you will need to cut the bottom of you return tube (that goes inside your tank). It needs to be cut at a 45 degree angle and extend down to 1" from the bottom (per instructions). Hope that makes sense. Mike
