Will, Please ask Signature Solar to provide more programing options for the time of use and charge settings. I've tried time and time again since the 18K first came out. I talked with tech just last week and I'm afraid my efforts have fallen on deaf ears yet again. We want to, but can't buy it until they make it more flexible like the Solar Ark 15K settings are. Thanks, Tony

got my 18K after Signature Solar did their rebate for folks who had bought the 6500ex's. Set it up and it worked like a charm for a couple months. Then all of a sudden my power shut off and it said there was a battery fault. Apparently there had been 'battery voltage high' alarms for a month or so, but the EG4 Monitor app doesn't actually alert you of any of these, it just catalogs them so if you don't look you won't know. Checked all the voltages at the battery terminals as well as at the unit and all were nominal (batteries measured 52 or 53, inverter measured 55V). Signature Solar tech support verified this on their end and said everything was fine. Powered everything on again and even though it is functioning normally it is still sending these alarm codes. SS said it was likely a software issue. Fat lot of good THAT does me. System is set up and working as it should but the software will shut my system down?

He aint going to do it because the Sol-Ark is better Inverter, it has true customer support and Zero bugs. He does not make any money from Sol-Ark sales so why would any KZfaqr promote a product that offers them no financial gain over one that does. I Sell and Install both the Sol-Ark and the Fortress Envy witch is the same thing as EG4 12K/18Kpv. The Envy has lots of small software issues that make it a PITA. I put in a Sol-Ark and it just works, no customer calls. I put in the Envy and it's constant issues. Those people at Fortress offer good service but they cannot fix the problems when it's the software.

Will, We just got our kit from Signature Solar a couple weeks ago. Still looking for an electrician to connect it all. The rack I have is the newer 2023 rack. It has a door, floor, is all welded and came shipped as one unit. The busbar is different (all flush, thicker, and has lugs on both ends so you do not need to flip it around). There are two holes in the top for wires and four in the bottom. The casters are super heavy duty. Sounds like they addressed most of your complaints.

What are the advantages of the AES batteries vs the EG4 rack batteries?

So I purchased the SolArk 15k well in advance of when I needed it. It’s still in the box on the original pallet. 2 months after my purchase this came out. My question is, should I ditch the SolArk and buy this and save myself half the cost? I can probably sell the SolArk to a local company for what I paid for it. What is the real sacrifice? I’m having a hard time finding one. My system will have 11Kw of micro inverter panels, 5kw of standard panels, EG4 or similar battery and a 22kw Generic. I’m “on grid” and would power arbitrage if possible. Ok someone talk me out of this?!?

@@Iseestupidpeople122 if you won't loose lot of money, selling the Solark for the EG4 18K-PV will save you lot of money, time, and you would have less parts to deal with too. Signature Solar just dropped a load test video yesterday that IMO shows it did better than advertised and cleared up some questions I had there. I am going to buy either the Sol Ark or this one in the next few days. The one question I don't see answered anywhere is whether you can hook up a gas generator to charge batteries with the EG4 and as I want to be off grid and have the ability to do that in winter when it is dark and rainy for days as happens in Texas, having this option is huge for us. We are outside of city and on electric co op so have zero interest in sell back, it doesn't pay. The tax write off and my location does make paying off whole house doable in under 10 years. Would LOVE to know the answer to this one questions. BTW, I get Signature has at times had longer wait times but its the growing pains of growing a business, I am ok with it. I have been very happy working with them. Being understanding and supporting these types of businesses is what leads to better options for this community.

@@SunInLithium , Both operate using a sort of pulsing power supply, so the current starts and stops at a super high rate. Light dimmers do the same thing, but the current is low. A mig welder is a double whammy, because it has two pulsing parts: 1) The switching power and variable pulse width control for the electrical arc current; and 2) The "pulse width modulator" that controls the rate of wire feed.

i just bought the 18k and it's going into my father in laws toy trailer. yes way overkill but there is three components needed. batteries, 18k inverter, solar panels. simple clean wiring. supper fast install. everything needed in one simple box without a bunch of wires, fuses, buss bars. i would think that installers for travel trailers would go to something like this because time is money and this would cut out so much install time that it would be cost effective. i was going to do the whole victron units and it is only a few hundred dollars more after all components installed that was required with the victron units. UPDATE. After calling Signature Solar I found the literature that is sent with pretty much all their product from eg4 are all out of date inaccurate. Go ahead and throw all directions away that come with the product and go online to their online instructions/set up. After reading through the online literature it all worked. This goes for the 18k and the new eg4 LL batteries. Pretty sad.

Hi Will, there are a few details about your test setup that are important to the evaluation of a hybrid inverter. You did good on the performance of the SW interface. there are alot of installations that will want to connect in existing AC coupling, be able to sell to the grid and AC couple when the grid is down. This requires a transfer switch in the EG4 inverter that can manage the isolation. It is not clear how you are testing this mode. Related is the configuration is that many solar systems would be most economically modified by just adding in the EG4 inverter which most generally may also require not having the EG4 inverter near the service entrance. This requires the EG4 be able to control a remote contactor at the meter. It sounds like your shop and house loads are distributed suggesting a this test setup. How does the EG4 do in managing the grid tie when the meter is remote? thank you

I have 3 grid interactive installs using the Envy Inverter witch is the same as the EG4. All those Installs had random Grid selling which caused some issues for the owners and so far Fortress has not been able to fix it. I also have lights flickering at those installations. The two off grid installs I have had generator starting issues as well as the same flickering light issues. Customer spending $30K on equipment I just tell them spend an extra $1K and get SolArk. Better for them and better for me as I have a lot less calls about problems. The Folks at Fortress have been very good on customer support but I am sticking to their batteries which work very well and not using there Inverter.

Love your videos. Can you do a video on retrofitting a 18KPV onto an existing grid tie system (7.4kw enphase microinverters IQ7+). I ask this because CA is about to push out new electricity rates based on income which will essentially make my net metering benefits obsolete. This rate change makes me want to disconnect from the grid completely. Im curious of the best way to do this with my existing grid-tied micro inverters. I'm thinking of adding the 18kPV and about 30-60 KW of server rack batteries. Does the 18kPV allow one to set up a micro-grid and allow the enphase microinverters to continue to work without a formal grid? Of course I would use a 9KW inverter generator as back up to charge batteries if they ever go below 15% SOC. We do have some cloudy/rainy days here in LA. What do you think? Interested in making the video? I am familiar with off grid systems. Built a 120V, 7 KW solar, 15 KW storage for a cabin we have in Big Sur. Works great up there but really want to build something here that is AC linked with my existing solar. Phase 2 would be add V2H tech when I eventually buy an EV.

With systems like this low cost EG4 18k so easily combined with the low cost LiFEPO4 rack mounted batteries and panels below $0.50/Watt, there is NO excuse to not go solar.

Hey Will .. It's great that these systems are getting larger and larger with abilities to support entire homes off grid. But I was wondering if you know/see any improvements in the lower end of the market, i.e. the smaller 12V end of things. I know for a while, MPP solar had the PIP-1012LV, but I have not really heard anyone else be in that end of the market. It seems all 12V systems are stuck doing individual components (inverter/chargers) which is ok, I guess, but I was really hoping for something better in the All-in-one space?

@@WillProwse That's unfortunate as I would love to have an all in one unit that I can build a low cost emergency backup system around. Something that won't break the bank and would work in an Apartment setting where putting up solar isn't easy.

@@jb76489 I get where Will is coming from. 24V gives you choices while still being low power enough for a beginner to work with. The problem is that the cheapest 24V battery + all in one unit is Twice as much as a 12V system and you will need a 24 to 12V converter to run 12V devices.

Hi Will. I have one of these inverters and couldn’t be any happier with it so far! Let me ask though for those of us operating off grid or with a zero export constraint, how can we configure the system to turn on additional loads to avoid missing out on solar productivity once the batteries are fully charged? You know loads like bitcoin mining or water heating come to mind.

Will, been doing a lot of research on these. Still can’t figure out (can’t find it in the manual) how to set the system to charge the batteries from grid when the batteries reach a set SOC. You can trigger a gen at a given SOC and you can set times to charge from the grid, but I don’t see how to trigger a grid charge based on battery SOC.

The larger 12KW probably runs cooler with smaller systems wonder if it better to go the larger inverter even if you only plan on 6000-8000 watts. If you mount these inside have to cool them running near max capacity generating lot of heat have to cool.
