This is the start of our story. Our 'New Normal' and new future. We are moving to the Philippines for a new start and this is day 84 of our Philippines Daily Vlog which will document what life is like for a British Family trying to work out life in this very exotic and beautiful country.
Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel's mum & Story's grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for over 3 months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.
Follow us on this journey :-)

Hello guy's. I'm impressed at J's first attempt in tackling matured coconut. Just be careful handling the "bolo" (machete) by the way. Don't throw the coconut water, you can also drink that. Best way to extract the first coconut milk is add about 2cups of water to 1whole grated coconut then knead it like a dough to get most of the milk for about a minute or so before squeezing hard using both hands. Set aside the pulp. Then use a sieve or cheese cloth to get the remaining bits. Repeat for 2nd time but add only a cup of water. For the pulp, put it in a tray & let it dry under the sun, blend it then you have a coconut flour. Enjoy & Take care always. X

In grating coconut... you must start outside going inward in circular pattern... the secret is to grate it evenly, it should not be finishing one area; then another... you can use a clean cloth to extract more coconut milk.

Great to see you thriving to learn the local way of living. It's very interesting to see you embracing and appreciating our tradition. As always Story is always funny and entertain us all the time. Processing coconut milk from scratch, the old-fashioned way from opening with machete to grating with a sit-on “kudkuran” There’s nothing better than freshly made coconut milk🥛🥥. Is there anything Story can’t do? She can carry a tune alright.👏👍 Another sweet video. Thanks, folks! 👌🙏🏼❤️

Nawww seeing Juno show you the coconut milk method is exactly how we do it in Samoa! We use the coconut milk to pour over cooked green bananas, pour in cooked rice as a coconut rice, pineapple drink which we call vai fala (pronounced vey far-lar) or put in banana leaves mixed with onions & then cooked called luau (pronounced as loo-owl). However it’s definitely done the way the Filipino way brought down from generation to generation. Also, Story sang that frozen song beautifully.

My grandma used to cook "sticky rice" and she made use of fresh coconut milk, pretty much what you did here. She also made coconut oil but i can't remember how she did it. We used that home made coconut to massage a painful body part, or apply it to a baby's head to make the hair grow. She also cooked some of the grated coconut flesh mixed with molasses, much like what they put inside a "pandecoco bread". Those were some of my memories with my grandmother. Thanks for the vlog

Hello beautiful family 💟. You can cook a sweet meryenda called "ginatan" out of that fresh coconut milk. My way of cooking it is not the conventional way like my Nanay used to do...but try it with your chia seeds. Boil at least 2 cups of coconut milk and a cup of water then add sugar to your liking for sweetness. When boiling, add cubed cuts of sweet potatoes, banana (saba), fresh kernel corn and about 2-3 tbsp of chia seeds. Let it boil until sweet potatoes and bananas are cooked. (Optional: you can mix half a cup of fresh coconut milk when you turn off the stove to have a fresh taste of it). Hope you like it 😉

hi J, Sach and Story. What you hear goggling when the coconut is shaked and gushes when you break it open is the coconut water. The coconut milk is what you extract from the grated/shaved coconut meat. The round, sweet, watery thing inside the coconut is it's germination, because brown coconuts are the right age for it to start to grow. We call it in the visayan dialect as "buwa" . We were so thrilled to find them when we were young, they're tasty ^_^

You an also freeze the coconut cream. Filipinos usually express the cream twice. The first round will be your full cream using very minimal water. On the second round, you water it down a little bit more and this will be your 2nd diluted batch. When used in cooking with vegetables, you use the 2nd batch first and when your close to getting your veggies done, then you add in the creamier batch to get a thick and flavorful outcome.

However, i found myself interested and enjoyed your family oriented content and the happiness your family exudes while enjoying your stay in the Philippines. i felt proud that my fellow filipinos love, respect and welcome you as their own family! i can feel their kindness and care for you! It is at this point that i finally decided to see more of your vlogs.I know that you came to my country at the most difficult time , more so in the middle of pandemic. I ‘m proud to say that i became one of your new subscriber! Mabuhay!

It is a wonderful idea, I encourage all the fans of 8 miles and most especially of story, to send your greetings video for her. No doubt this pretty child would love and appreciate that much, seeing different faces and all those people admires her and loves her family.

Thank you for featuring this process. I’m Filipino born from Cavite, living here in Chicago. I still do this process ( with same shredder you have- I bought it here from a Vietnamese market). It doesn’t get old- fresh shredded coconut perfect for making Filipino desserts and recipes

Hello! G’day from Sydney Australia! I’ve just seen for the first time your vlog today and fell in love with the way you present it Your daughter Story is sooo adorable and you as a parent are amazing !!! How cool is that you’re cool in learning the Filipino ways like what you’ve just shown of producing a coconut milk from the coconut the old way. I grew up in Philippines and now live here in Australia and I remember doing the same thing when i was 9 years old😄😄. Looking forward to see more of your vlogs . Have a lovely time there guys and please say hello to Story from me. Maria
