Ejected out of SARL for Catching Catfish

Returned to my old nemesis location, Santa Ana River Lakes or SARL for short, after a skunk streak of four times on a tube. A bit annoyed with some of the other stuff going on there on the lake and shore but overall had a great time. Got ejected for catching and releasing when I was having issues with my floating fish cage. All good though, still had a blast and learned a bunch from floating there. Those catfish are crazy fun to catch!

I've been fishing SARL since i was 16 yo, im 48 now....staff use to be really cool back then, now you have a bunch of depressed ppl working there as if they have been held captive and forced to work there. Secret tip: if your fishing for cat, fish in the catfish lake, they dont have cameres you can fish peacefully 👍🏾

It's ridiculous they think ppl go there to release fish purposely, if it flaps out of your hands, which happens all the time,they should be able to tell from the footage that it was accidental....these ppl are from another planet.

I need to try my tube in there for sure, never went back. I just wish they were nicer over there and spread out the catch zones around the lake

Glad you posted this! There losing lots of my money this year and all of my friends too! Seems other would agree. Have respect for your customers. That was a honest mistake. Santa ana river lakes lost thousands this year cuz of this! Good for them

Yah, I am okay with it honestly. I am not a huge fan but it is quite fun on occasion with some friends. I don't get how people stay the night there or go super early to line up, but to each their own.

Good video.. when ever I post around there I get a starbucks and think to myself what a sad place to fish .. literally a mud hole like these other people are saying . Looking forward to the next one

Same thing happened to me. I was float tubing like I do every weekend. Drove 90 minutes to get to the lake. Had limits within an hour. Started to release fish with a barbless circle hook. They saw on the cameras and started screaming. Was kicked off the lake by 8:00am after spending 29 dollars and 90 minutes worth of gas. Ridiculous

Cought double my limit and went up to the office to pay for another spot being honest that I cought over my limit and they wanted to charge me 12 a lb for my top 5 biggest fish told them they could jusy kick me out. next time ima lie and just not pay for another spot like the rest of the people do. I guess it does not pay to be an honest person. What a business to run.....

Normally just chicken livers and shrimp, nothing fancy. I know a bunch of people that go all out with dip and dough baits but I try and just keep it real simple

Yah, I have been back once. Not a place I like to go much not just because of the cost but because I have been skunked there plenty. Sure, maybe because I'm not great but also because if you are not in the special spots the remaining 90% of the lake is just bad. Thanks for watching my stuff! Appreciate it

I do! I love it, it is a generic one I got off of Amazon that stops at a preset 1psi. Works great, I think it was $30-$40 or so.

Oh, it is a wire mesh net that I tied pool noodles to that makes it float next to me. It works great but as you saw I had some issues with it. Just got to be careful is all

What kind of fins do you recommend for float tubing??

I use the Force fins but you don't need to use them. They are quite expensive. Just try and stay away from longer fins since it makes it hard to launch and maneuver

I fished one time there many, many years ago and never went back because even way back then the personnel and the other fishermen were populated by an inordinately high percentage of outright jerks. We caught a decent stringer of trout but the hassles just weren't worth it. I fish in part to relax, not to spend significant parts of the day fending off belligerence, selfishness and mindless, knee-jerk aggression.

I've fished there for trout maybe five times. I rarely have had much luck (have never fished there for catfish). It's expensive, staff isn't super friendly, and there are just better stocked parks in the local areas during the winter months. El Dorado Park in Long Beach is a great place to scratch the trout fishing itch without going to the Sierra. RIP Irvine Lake.

Yah, I get the whole thing just that I am not one to want to fish there since there are specific spots that you catch all the fish at. Align that with the people that get there way early in the morning or sleep there and I am just not one to race for spots. That's why I float tube it but it's dangerous with many of the pontoon boats trying to hit you

It's on their rules but I don't see the harm unless you gut hooked and it just dies right there. Who knows, they prob just want you to catch and just leave.

Screw that place. Overpriced @ $30 per person and then they call you out over the load speaker. Talking about being unprofessional. Go to Silverwood for freshwater or Newport for salt.

I do want to go back for trout but feel like I want to wait for a few more stockings before heading over there. That way there is more carry over and chances to catch.

Looks like a chill lake, too bad they gave you unnecessary trouble! People need to have a bit of perspective on what’s worth making a fuss about. What’s the issue with catch and release? I didn’t know it was an issue.

IDK to be honest, seems like they pay to have those catfish stocked so they would want to keep their fish? If they die after being caught, I would assume they would just become food for the other fish in there. Have no idea why they are so strict about it.

Thanks Mark, it is still fun there and a good place to try float tubing if you are scared to go right into the bay. The water is not clean and they make you wear waders but catfish are still pretty wild to catch.

Yeah if anyone has ever taken the time to read the lake rules, it says there is NO CULLING. If you don't know what that means, it means catching and releasing smaller fish to catch bigger fish. That means the first 5 fish you catch regardless of size, is your limit and the fishing day ends at that moment unless you go buy another ticket for 5 more fish. I Don't know why some of you guys get pissed off when you get caught breaking the rules.

Thanks for watching! I agree and I was not pissed off at all. I get it but I also never cull. In my mind, I am the best customer they can have since I never keep any fish. I catch and release the entire time so there is no expense to the facility. Any that I might gut hook I give away so others max their limits on dying fish.

What I've been told about the catch and release is that improperly released fish die and cause water quality issues. My opinion is that they don't want people culling out fish so as to take home the largest stringer they can. To me they should allow C&R if you are not keeping any.

@@glennmorimoto4541 yeah, also catfish are pretty hardy fish. It would take a lot to kill them. I agree that the culling thing is probably the real reason. But what is the big deal with that anyway, all the fish are stocked pretty much the same size right. And with him you could tell it was clearly accidental that he dropped the fish.

@@FisherNewb no truth be told its a five fish limit and after 5 you need to go up front and buy another 30 ticket. If they let you release them there everyone would be culling there fish and you would have alot of dead fish that's drinking water alot of fisherman don't know the proper way to catch and release and drag the fish up on shore yank the hook out and toss back in

Yah, kinda pricey. Stings quite a bit when you get skunked also. Overall though, it's one of the few options we have around here for fresh

Sometimes its hard to believe they stock it weekly.. Ive fished that lake many years and sometimes its good and sometimes its bad... They have 4 hot spots. 2 on da big lake 1 on chris pond N 1 on da catfish side.. But its still over priced. They hardly even do there job. To much trash and dead fish... Im sure the fencing going under water to block the holes are well rusted out.. Fish escape

What sucks is that 10% of the lake is fishable and those spots are totally packed. The rest of the lake is empty and will just drain the life out of you lol

I understand they have their rules, but the way they handle things is pretty rude. Looked like an honest "oops" to me...they didn't need to call you out over the loud speaker...they could've stepped out of the office. Nice job catching though!

Thank you, those releases were all mistakes. I do give all my fish away but I like the act of giving them away. hehe. I fished there again last weekend and got yelled at again. At this point, just laughing at them

I could see no c&r on trout because of how fragile they are . Catfish are hearty as any fish and wouldn't have any problem being released. I stopped fishing there 10 years ago and won't go back! And I hate the evil ice cream truck too !

Yes, it is private property and I can see how they would not like what I was doing. All good in the end, we were having fun and not hurting anyone in my opinion. Making others happy is how I see it. Hope you enjoyed the fishing though! lol

Nah they are set in their ways and don't like to be bothered with people. They can be pretty rude but they don't do refunds. I have no idea why they don't want us to release. It's not like the dead catfish stay out there long, the birds all swoop in if they are floating

No they don't they have a strict no refund policy. I get that it could be seen that I was breaking the rules in their eyes, I'm really not bothered by it. I get it, business and all

@@FisherNewb sorry to me it’s more like theft! Just kick the fisherman out, he doesn’t get the fish or entertainment he paid for and they get to keep all fees. And it’s all at their discretion without arbitration. And I feel that’s theft!

There is a huge sign that says no culling of fish and no catch and release its also on the rules that are on your ticket which is a sticker your supposed to wear. They installed cameras new ones around the whole lake to enforce the rules this sarl local knows this he's there every Friday during trout season. They have seen every move in the book as far as the fake catch and release He just had Hawkeye Ed on his ass and got busted lmfao.
