Using the Elecraft KX2 to do QRP ham radio CW work on a mast. This 9:1 antenna on the KX2 is a winning combo. Watch me make QSO contact after QSO contact.
In amateur radio, QRP operation refers to transmitting at reduced power while attempting to maximize one's effective range. The term QRP derives from the standard Q code used in radio communications, where "QRP" and "QRP?" are used to request, "Reduce power", and ask "Should I reduce power?"
QRP KX2 “stealth” transceiver can go wherever your imagination takes you. Thanks to state-of-the-art construction techniques, it’s only 5.8 x 2.8 x 1.5” and weighs just 13 ounces-making it the smallest full-featured HF radio on the planet.
Yet it puts out up to 10 watts, covers 9 bands, and shares many features with the KX3. It also works with the KXPA100 amplifier.
To maximize your freedom to roam, you can outfit your KX2 with an internal 2.6 amp-hour Li-ion battery. Current drain is as little as 135 mA, yielding up to 8 hours of typical operation on a single battery charge. There’s also an internal automatic antenna tuner module (KXAT2), which can tune a random wire, dipole, or whip on multiple bands.
A rear tilt-foot angles the KX2 for use on any surface, from desktop to park bench to rock. The KX2 also makes a great moble rig, and can even be used hand-held. It includes a built-in mic for HT-style operation.
The KX2’s powerful 32-bit DSP offers features dual watch, stereo audio, user-programmable filter bandwidths, noise blanking, noise reduction, and auto-notch. RTTY and PSK data modes are built in-no PC needed-as well as a memory keyer and digital voice recorder for transmit.

Some states do not give enough money for Parks. Those states change more to keep parks open. So thank you for showing the park and how easy a KX2 can tune an antenna and work CW.

@@hamradiocq Well the infrastructure cost money to build, maintain and keep clean and nice. Ps if you saw what some state parks looked like when I was a kid you would understand how nice the one you showed cost.

Thanks for sharing part II of this adventure.. really love your commentary before getting on the air 😂. the government is really taking the fun out of visiting state parks. In CT they are free for state residents only because you are charged a fee in your registration or license renewal. ps I bought an extension for my hitch mount and with it I can drop the tailgate on my Silverado and use it as a table. 73

Yeah, You get it Andrew. I got a nasty comment about being charged for a park, but I don't see why they need money for me to drive on an existing road and see trees.... More rangers to hassle me is that that money goes to.

Thanks for sharing. Sure doesn't look anything like Missouri. Ithink the tire plate for the antenna is the way to go also. Your wire tunes up really well for you. Looking forward to more videos. How are you liking your Dx10 since you got rid of your 7300? Still got mine. KE0RPU

Thank you for the information! I am new to ham. I try learn from videos. I sometimes put in my 2 cents. Bring som rubber bands to help hold the paperwork they are cheap and lightweight. I am not good at code and like that you put on the screen what was said. I only care about the radio things. I spent some time in southwest Oklahoma. And I want to go back with my radio and drive up Mount Scott 2,464 ft. In the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge! Everything is mostly flat around there for many miles. Some think they are just rocky hills. But are listed as Mountains but nothing like the Rocky Mountains. You can drive up set up your radios and do some talking. There is a fair size flat part, Black Top! You can't drive in a ground rods, tent stakes. Mostly big damn rocks that has been somewhat leveled off and Black Top put in. Hard pull going up and a bitch on the breaks coming down. Use the engine as much as can for breaking! It is steap! If you want to go there check to see if the road is open. Sometimes have it closed for one reason or another, rock slide, Covid-19, one of the dear didn't want to get his shot. Sorry my smartass come out sometimes! I spent a lot of weekends out there away from the world. Someone said it was a dollar per day but I never found where to pay. It was strange to wake up to the sounds of deer eating grass near the camp. OH DO NOT GO UP TO 10 FEET AND TAKE FLASH PHOTOS OF BUFFALO ! Some one did that. He made it in the Darwin Award!

Why don’t you mount the mast on a “drive on ground mount “ By TN07 engineering. It would clear up the back for your table setup. By the way great video as usual

Tom, thanks for the video - very good, as usual. Particular thanks for the subtitles allowing to check if I received the qso correctly. I will also ask the question that wad already raised in the commentaries - what is your impression having used Ft-10dx after you git rid of ic-7300? Here in Russia we have some conflicting views as to which rig is better. 73 de R2ARM!

I like the FT10dx better, bigger screen and I can use the monitor, but both are great radios.

Another great adventure Tom, I was wondering if I missed "part 2" of the salt adventure, now I know I didn't. nice place, and I agree on the price. I live in Western MA. and we have a state park with the Highest Mt in Ma. and they charge $10 just to park your car!. Alto MA residents do get a discount. so know how feel on that one. The only Critique I can see is that K4 you were working, he was still there trying to work you when you just left and changes bands? leaving him hanging? or did I miss something? I would have at least made it known I cud not hr him and signed that way in hopes that he would of heard that and knew I was giving up the ghost so to speak. As for lunch! NO THANKS! I ain't eating anything with heads and eyeballs staring back at me! ha ha. but different strokes blah blah. Thanks again for a great video enjoyed it as usual. 73 gud dx till nex time de Ellis WA1RKS

As for parks, my strong belief is that these should be totally free for access and funded by the state. The state should encourage people going to parks, as this makes them and the nation healthier. Yes, maintenance requires money, but there are ways to find them - add 50 cents to taxes or particular goods and that will solve the issue. Smithsonian museums in Washington DC are free, and that is correct, although definitely costs a lot. Rock Creek Park in Washington DC is free, and that is correct also. Otherwise people would prefer spenfing 10 bucks in McDonalds, not in the park.
@hamradiocq
@hamradiocq 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I want to know why a park costs so much also? Is it mowing? Are they wasting the money making more buildings that no one visits? For the most part it's grass and trees. I don't see why they need money other than to keep it trimmed.

How's funding done at your local state parks? They are probably getting fewer of your tax dollars than you think. That's why they charge you for everything.
@hamradiocq
@hamradiocq 2 жыл бұрын
Why do they need to charge for anything? It's trees and grass.
