Election observer and civil society organisation Ground Work Collective says it would be ideal for votes cast overseas to be counted where the voting took place - as a lot could happen during their transportation to South Africa for counting. This comes after the IEC Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Masego Shiburi said the ballots would be transported back to South Africa, and be counted at the IEC results operations centre.
Yesterday (17 May 2024) marked the first day of voting by South African citizens living abroad at seven locations - mainly in the Middle East. Voting takes place at 102 other locations including London.

IEC is not transparent enough on voter registration, notably the voting dates. For instance, I only learnt yesterday that voting in London is 18th &19th. We have been disadvantaged in many ways. Fortunately, I have managed to get a train ticket to London, which is a 3hr travel. Another factor is that the UK is very broad, I suggest that for next elections voting stations should spread to other Uk cities e.g Manchester ,Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds etc.

Also London is too far for many South Africans who live in other cities like MAnchester and Birmingham. So not everyone who wanted to vote had the opportunity to go and vote because of distance and expenses of traveling to go and vote.

The SA embassies need to do more to inform citizens abroad of the process... and not just rely on Facebook and Instagram to diceminate relevant information. In the Philippines, less than 80 South Africans registered on the two available days for registration without adequately informing residents here to register or when to vote.... Although citizens abroad need to ensure they are informed, the Embassy's can do a lot more to ensure participation... if indeed they value the participation of all South Africans...

Who ever could believe that the votes wouldn’t be scrutinised first and only ANC votes make it.

Do you have evidence for your allegations? In 2019 of the more than 18k votes cast abroad, DA got over 14K and ANC just over 2k. Your allegations seem unfounded.

Why didn't they just count the votes in UK though??? And just send figures that transporting the votes??

AM4C is the party to vote for ALLIED MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE, with Emam Manzoor Sheik Ahmad being more vociferous than ANC or any other party. He called for the racist ambassador of the terrorist state of Israel to be expelled from South Africa. I've always voted ANC . BUT IT'S TIME FOR CONSTRUCTIVE CHANGE.
