This is a follow up video on my electric chainsaw mill, where I talk about the positives and negatives of this set up.
During making of this video almost killed the saw with over loading it. I was trying to feed it faster than its natural feed rate.
Anyway, I managed the fix it somehow! I just have to be patient next time, and not force it!
think turned out great!

Brilliant bit of practical engineering! A year or so should see some shop milled wood in your shop. Thanks for sharing!

Gord Roberts thank you! Maybe even sooner! The cedar already at 20 percent moisture content. Drying fast and very stable. ( unlike the maple which is at 30)

Add some spacer block between log and end block, then you don't have to extend your saw track

Get idea. I may have to build one for myself. Instead of extending your rail, you could put a spacer block at the end of the log tray. That way the end of the log will Finnish before your rail runs out.

This is a great idea. Good you can use indoors in all weather unlike a petrol saw. Unless milling full length logs, you could just pull The log back a couple of inches with a packer to avoid the end run off. Thanks for the video.

Great build, cheap and effective. The saw carriage should have a sweep to clear cuttings off the track. Buildup can get under the carriage and deflect the cut.

Nice jig! I see that you are using standard cross cut chain. This is sharpened at a 30 degree angle. Try using ripping chain. It is sharpened at a 10 degree angle. You can get away with changing the angle on your existing chain by sharpening it to 10 degrees if there is enough wear left in it.
@szilardpinter
@szilardpinter 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes I that's right. I was thinking about that, possible the vibration at the tip of the bar when beginning the cut caused by that 30degree angle, is too aggressive. Once is in the wood (it stops) I think it can be compensated by a careful federate. The chain is new so I have plenty left on it to change the angle by the first sharpening! ( all that cut was done with the factory grind, and didn't seem too loose much sharpness.) Thanks for taking your time to comment! All the best!

Szilard Pinter Hey great video! to tell you the truth (about the chainsaw stopping) the thermocoupler probably cooled off in the time you took to tinker with it and started working in its own. next time just shoot some air from a airline into it and it should start back up. I have one that does the same.

For pieces of tree trunk shorter than the mill, then why not move the tree trunk closer to where you start cutting to stop the saw trolley sliding off the end? A temporary stop screwed to the base at the far end of the trunk would stop the trunk moving forward.

At the end where you are having the problem, just put a block there and it would move the log forward!
@szilardpinter
@szilardpinter 7 жыл бұрын
Thom Graham ok I see what you mean! I thought about that but because it didn't really effect me in finishing the cut I just didn't bother. But I will extend the track with about 100mm for other reason. I wanna put a simple winch on it to pull the saw!

or keep the saw fixed and move the log? Then you could support that viberating saw tip with a steel arm or bracket, enclose it in a cnc type cabinet and suck the dust out all in one. I guess it would be easier to make the saw assembly height adjustable for sucessive cuts than keep moving the log up and up on spacers?

The saw probably stopped working because the brushes that rub on commutator weren't advancing, sometimes they need to be jarred loose by tapping the motor housing with something light, like a screw driver handle.
