Thanks for the info simple and clean hook-up . I have two fans, second fan I tied in-line with fan 1 with a toggle switch. Flip it on when towing or any excessive work-load. Thanks again!

You covered almost everything very well! You left out one crucial piece that is extremely key in the system! Electric fans pull a lot of amps and because of that you need to be sure that where you tap in to a power source for the fan motor that you are getting all the amps needed to run the fan. Check your wire size all the way from the alternator to the battery to be certain it will carry the full amperage load that the alternator produces. If your alternator wire runs to a junction, it’s possible that a smaller wire runs from the junction to the battery just big enough to keep it charged, meanwhile the junction delivers the rest of the amps to the rest of the electrical system. If that’s the case then tap your fan power wire from circuit breaker into the junction or size up the wire from the junction to the battery and for that matter if you have a high amp alternator you should size up the entire wire from the alternator all the way to the junction and then to the battery, probably 8 or 6 gauge, there is a chart online that gives the proper wire size for your amp output of the alternator...... This is extremely important for the reliability of the entire electrical system! Great video!

I have brought a 100amp 12volt relay & have installed for the 12Volt Toilet for my 6.20 Fiberglass Cabin boat & it works perfectly & this can run on the house 12volt battery once the battery has been charged with the F150 Yamaha 4 Stroke Outboard Motor & when some wants to use the toilet no problem at all as just open the 2 valves & close the privacy cover & then the person can go to the toilet no problem at all & having that 100Amp Relay makes a big difference use less power to operate it & Relays are really good if you to power 12Volt items Kind Regards Peter 😊

Thanks bud. You helped me in the first couple min. My kit (very similar to yours) did not detail WHICH red wire to run to fan (87 or 30). Me not knowing if it could make a diff or not, i wanted to do it right the first. time. And didnt know "brass side is battery side". :) Heres a tip. You can reuse that relay block. To rewire it, just use a small flat head screw driver, and remove the wires/connectors that are inside. Theres special tools you can buy to do that also if need be.

Hi. If you take a 30Amps switch and you connect the one end to the positive cable of the fan (12v+) with a cheat connection spade and the other after the fuse box's fan fuse, you will have the same result. For having one way flow of the current you can put a diode to isolate the back flow when the fan starts from the factory's 100 degrees thermostatic valve. For having a signal of the fan's operation, the switch should have a bulb for connecting the positive cable's end of the fan. You will have two separated operations. One with thermostatic valve and one with the switch to operate it manually. On both cases you will see the fan's operation through the bulb which is on when a 12v+ going to the fan.

@alanlarson5363
@alanlarson5363 3 жыл бұрын
Helpful, but let's talk about power, amperage. Let's start with the load, the fan. What is the current of the fan? Mine was 6 Amps. I would design for double the load, 12 Amps in case I need to add a mini fan. The wire and relay would need to be rated at a minimum 15 Amps. So, you do not need monster wiring and relays for such a small load. I purchased the same kit. My intake did not have an extra port so I ordered an adjustable thermostat that mounts into the radiator fins. Also, the thermostat that you installed in the intake just provides the relay a ground point. It doesn't power the relay as you suggested, but completes the circuit. A breakout diagram of the relay, with numbers, may be helpful for others.

Good video well explained. I had to wire my fan. I used the Vintage Air Fan wiring kit, The only thing different is they use the 86 pin for the ground triggers and the 85 for the 12V Key On ignition source which the relay can go either way. the 30 and 87 are the same. I also added a Toggle switch to turn the fan on anytime I wanted. My battery is in the bed so I went from the Starter to keep the wire run short as possible.

Heres a tip: If you install this, and the fan wont kick on at temp, loosen the sensor thats screwed into the intake, and see if coolant leaks out. You may have an airpocket in that area. Your engine will over heat long before that air pocket trips that sensor.

Circuit breaker is the same as a fuse. You should also get the same relay amperage as your fan needs. You should return to Amazon and just get the sending unit.
@georgesspot
@georgesspot 3 жыл бұрын
From what I understand once a fuse pops or breaks its done and you have to replace it because it literally melts away the metal in the fuse and will not work anymore ... but with a circuit breaker it can break but it will reset so you dont have to trash it every time it breaks or pops
@yetituning4859
@yetituning4859 3 жыл бұрын
@@georgesspot Open this type circuit breaker casing and you'll see its the same thing in a car. Basically in a car its just a case with a fuse. If it was a true circuit breaker you'll see a reset switch or bar. Now thats not to say there are not true circuit breaker for cars. Typically they're use on comp stereos and on the positive lead for batteries on race cars. What you get in these kit are not true circuit breakers. They're a casing with a fuse.

No. It has to be switched 12V. The starter post is constant 12V. You can tap your wiper circuit, or air conditioning 12V at the plug on the compressor. If you run a 5 pin relay w/ 85A, you do both, so that the fan turns on when you turn on your A/C no matter what temp your engine is at.
