Homemade brushless outrunner go-kart / mini-buggy with full suspension draws 15kW at full load. Quick look over and some footage showing how it performs.
It was designed for mild off road terrain, and tight technical tracks.
Some Specs:
-Motor: 120100 model which is a larger version of the well known CA120 used on RC planes.
-Traction Battery: 24S2P turnigy lipos (88.8V nominal, 10Ah)
-Controller: KLS96501-8080I model manufactured by Kelly Controls
-Display / Logging / Control: MoTeC C125
-Peak Power: 15kW and above
-Top Speed: greater than 80km/h
-Range: 8km ish (driving it hard)
This project has been a while in the making, and isn't finished yet. There are a lot of aspects to the build that ended up becoming projects in their own right, such as investment casting throttle pedals, making a module to adjust hall sensor timing etc. I have several ideas for future videos.
This is my first electric vehicle build and it posed more challenges compared to the petrol powered go karts that I have played with previously. It also cost more to build than the petrol equivalent, but it has been enjoyable. I was inspired to build this project and share it with you by people on sites like KZfaq and Endless Sphere (where the focus is on electric bikes).
Thanks for checking out my first video!

@opcolu
@opcolu 2 жыл бұрын
@@kevintimmermans4886 I think you're missing the point... the total weight of the whole drive system in this kart is roughly 13kg (4.5kg battery, 4.5kg controller, 4kg motor) and it can produce peak outputs of 25kw or ~33HP. Even the largest and most powerful GX (390) will struggle to put out more than 10HP peak and it will weigh in excess of 40kg with a fuel tank and clutch. Making the drive system 3 times heavier and 3 times less powerful seems like it would be a lot less fun and result in a lot less drifting ;)

Nice build. How is acceleration with that motor? I am wanting to do a 96v conversion on a TAG or maybe a shifter kart if I can find one cheap enough.
@torquesynthesis7641
@torquesynthesis7641 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers! The big issue with the motor is cooling, I have put 250A through the motor and acceleration is more than 0.4g from 0-50km/h which is great but it wont sustain that. With well set up cooling, it should be good for about 150A continuous. I should do a video reviewing the motor
@gusalmighty5098
@gusalmighty5098 4 жыл бұрын
@@torquesynthesis7641 I would really appreciate a review of that motor. Before I saw your video I was going to do a dual motor setup using 2 me0909 motors with a split rear axle and run them in series @96v 300A max or parallel @48 600A max. But those motors are only good for about 30nm and 4500 rpm no load speed. These motors are about $100 🇺🇸 cheaper and according to what I have read 46 nm and up to 8000 rpm no load speed. So now I am thinking 96v with dual 120100's run in paralell. With 2 of them in paralell maybe I can run the pair at 300 or 350 amp max and still get the desired acceleration with out cooking them. Can you run a pair of 3 phase motors in paralell with one controller, or will that mess with the hall sensors? A respectable top speed would be nice but not as important to me as making it scary fast from 0-60kph (40mph).
@torquesynthesis7641
@torquesynthesis7641 4 жыл бұрын
The 120100 would probably struggle with 100A continuous with no forced air cooling - it really needs help keeping cool on a go kart. The 2x me0909 would be capable of higher continuous output than their specification says if you could add some active cooling. I suspect the quality of the me0909 would be superior and the specifications would probably be more conservative regarding power output, compared to the 120100. The only way you can run 2 brushless motors off one controller is by running them synchronized e.g. on the same shaft.

What are the motor specs? What company makes it?
@imperialsecuritybureau6037
@imperialsecuritybureau6037 3 жыл бұрын
120100 brushless motor, produced mostly by Freerchobby, Flipsky & Maytech. It’s the same design with all of them, aside from various modifications each company makes to suit their quality control. They are possibly all built by Dongguan Freerchobby Co Ltd. but I’m not exactly sure. The specs vary on a few things like kV (of course) and rated torque and max amps are slightly different depending on what company is giving them. Typically the specs are: kV: 33 / 55 / 80 kV Maximum Series: 20-27S (72/84V - 99.9/113.4V) Max Amps: 300A Max power: 25kW Weight: 3.9kg Rated torque: 35-46Nm Nominal power: 10kW Nominal Amps: 180A Actual size: 120 x 180mm Shaft diameter: 12mm
